5th Annual College Basketball Draft

Hard for me to say. Love certainly has the physical tools to be special. Yet, I wonder how much someone can improve in one year? He was astoundingly underwhelming last year - except, for whatever reason, when he played Duke. He had an effective field goal percentage below 37%. And he was a little sloppy with the ball, too. If he can figure out how to shoot the ball with some level of consistency, I don't think it's out of the question for him to be 1st Team All-Conference.

I’m there with you. This is a big swing that could be really good or give me zero points.

Moving right along, I saw a bunch of the 62nd pick Kenneth Lofton in the U19 FIBA tournament. Dude is a beast (bro had 16 and 7 in the gold medal game against France). And he's the best player on what is likely the best team in CUSA. That will make him conference POY and allow him to rack up some nice win share numbers. I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up an HM AA as well.

In fact, go ahead and pencil La Tech in as a 1st round winner in March over your favorite 7th best team in whichever P6 conference they reside.

@duckboy33 It's on you again.

Should be one of the major breakout players this year. And I do believe he's the favorite to win CPOY, though not in a landslide. Keith Williams and Taevion Kinsey are both very productive.

okay, so I’m going to go with:
- Posh Alexander from St. John’s
- Caleb Love, because I’m a huge homer. I have it on good authority that UNC is bringing in a hypnotist to trick him into believing that every opponent is duke. All joking aside, I think he could have a good year, but this is a risky pick.

I’m having a blast in this draft, but I’ll just say that this really is showing me how little I know about next years teams and players.

@dukedevilz how much of a reach is Caleb in round 6?

@boilerzz back to you.

I had Caleb Love last year. Has he mentally recovered from me making him replace the word LOVE on the back of his jersey with the word BUM?

He sucks, good luck.

I was deciding between him and the other Lofton, but in the end I went with the one who plays in the better conference just in case the A10 qualifies enough teams to get the extra point boost for post season awards.

His stroke still looks kind of iffy but I’m banking on the idea that the spacing will be better this year with the 4 spending more time on the outside, which should allow him to drive to the basket. Or maybe that’s just wishful thinking.

Probably not a bad determining factor... You're on the clock again, actually. Not sure if you were aware of that.

My best guess for points awarded for 1st Team All-Conference...

4 points: Power 6 Conferences
3 points: AAC, A-10, MWC, WCC, MVC (KenPom projects Northern Iowa as the fourth team in the MVC at #110)
2 points: Everyone else

4 points if there are 4+ teams in the KenPom top 50
3 points if there are 4+ teams in the KenPom top 100

okay, so I’m going to go with:
- Posh Alexander from St. John’s

Good value, IMO. Posh Alexander was the Big East Defensive POY. That is the equivalent of being 1st Team. Might be a little harder this year, however, with Darryl Morsell, the reigning Big Ten DPOY, in the mix.

Ron Harper Jr. - Rutgers

@WeAreDePaul

Whoa! Just noticed that was the first Big Ten player selected since Curbelo went 20th. That's crazy. 20 to 63. That's a huge gap.

I'm hoping Harper's role at Rutgers gets larger this year after losing Mathis and Young.

Devonte Davis. High tempo team should put up big numbers. Averaged 12.3 - 6.7 - 2.8 in 6 postseason games as a freshman. Could be the best team in the SEC.

I was thinking about him, was hoping to get him with my next pick. One of those top 100 lists had him #21.

Is this another mind game - or do you really feel that way?

I feel like the upside is there but it’s got dead last potential. If Wheeler and Martin could translate their big fish small pod stats to Kentucky and Kansas they will be studs. But they could both be average.

Then I have a couple freshman and a dude who averaged 8ppg last year.

And I have a pick you will all hate later.

The fewer Michigan players you have, the more likely you are to finish in last.

But yeah, you definitely have some risky picks. Remy Martin, for example, might be 1st Team All-American. But, I could also see him being the third best player at KU.

Exactly. He’s really low on some lists. My thought process is that his scoring should transfer to the Big 12. It’s not like that conference is known for defense. And a 19ppg scorer for a top 5 Kansas team should get loads of media hype.

Kinda bogus but w/e

He was the top player on my draft board when we arrived at the 6th pick. Not much else I could do.

If you were an Indiana fan, I would not have taken TJD out of spite. I would have taken HD just the same. I was simply looking for the best player available. Just thought it was funny/crazy how you were the next poster to draft.

In the past we have skipped people who didn’t pick and didn’t give you a list. If this was for money that would’ve been controversial. It’s not so no biggie.

I've skipped people when they're on the clock and they don't notify me ahead of time. There's a difference between a proxy pick and the 24 hour clock elapsing (WeAreDePaul almost had his time expire today). A proxy pick occurs when I know beforehand that a poster won't be available. GE Nole clearly said he was leaving the country and wouldn't be available until the 15th.

In which case if this was for money it would be fair to have someone submit a list, not have you pick who you think is best. I’ve never partook one anything for money where the proxy pick was someone else competing. It’s either a list they submit or a third party.

But this is for fun and it’s all good.

Like you said, this is just for fun and no money whatsoever. If it was for money it would have stricter rules. But, it’s not for money so it doesn’t have very strict rules. Therefore what @dukedevilz did wasn’t “kinda bogus”. For this league it was 100% fine with no qualifier necessary.

I already said for this league it’s fine multiple times and have joked about it.
