Which Team Stands the Best Chance of Beating Duke for the Natty?

Is that way scoring more points than the other team?
It's grinding out victories. They can't play different styles and it will bite them in the tourney like it always does. They are down 6 late last night and Jerome is out there dribbling out the clock.

Would you like to take a guess who is 3rd in the country in scoring margin right now? I don't care if you buy into UVA or not. It's perfectly fair to be skeptical based on our history. But to say a team that is 3rd in the country in scoring margin just "grinds out victories" sounds a little ridiculous.

IIRC, they passed to an open guy for a high percentage shot that he nailed and Virginia cut the lead to 3. It ended up being worth it to take an extra 5 seconds off the clock to get a better shot off. Most teams will rush that possession and opt for a low percentage/highly contested shot that is typically missed, essentially ending the game right there.

All fine and good, but they will see different unfamiliar styles in the tournament unless they get a straight ACC draw. They have to control the tempo and keep games close. If they get behind by 8 plus I think they are in trouble because they can't switch to an uptempo style. When they got behind big to UMBC last year they were still running the shot clock down every possession on offense. That just won't work. I don't see them going out early, but I think elite 8 is probably their ceiling.

History says this is unlikely. I had no idea how poorly UVA had performed in the tournament.
Maybe Bennet can get them back to the Final 4, 24 years is a long time

I guess it depends what you mean by a ceiling. Does that mean you think it's impossible for them to get past the Elite 8? Or that the Elite 8 is just the most likely the furthest they go? I don't think there's a single team in the country that we can't beat in a single game. Doesn't mean I would guarantee anything in a single elimination tournament though.

Duke was already beaten at full strength. Their A game is unmatched but there are plenty of teams capable of knocking them off in the tournament. Such is the life of a one and done scenario.

By the way, **** you for crapping on Kyle Guy so much yesterday.

CATS, that is just fun smack talk. It is not like UK fans don't talk smack.
They should be great games for both of us and who knows who will win.:)

True, but the Cuse is an unranked team for a reason.
Did you know Syracuse lost to Old Dominion, a team that itself lost to FAU?

The battleship Duke shouldn't have to be all hands on deck to defeat the PT boat Syracuse
.

I'm starting to think we give you too much credit, and your understanding of basketball just isn't up to par. If 40% of your starters are out and you have to completely change the game plan in the middle of a game, playing against an unconvential and athletic defense, it's not surprising you lose that game. I don't think anyone would question Duke's ability to beat Syracuse if they had days to prepare without those starters.

But knowing you, you won't be able to have a discussion about this. I think you're starting to just enjoy trolling.

Haha I swear every time I watch you guys play (which is admittedly as little as possible) he does nothing but miss shots. Besides I wanted you to bite last night anyway Laughing.

Re Duke/Syracuse - Duke absolutely should have won that game even absent two players. But I'd argue facing a team like them playing a junk zone exclusively is the exact worst setup for a team without their point guard and best shooter. Without Reddish Syracuse were content with Duke shooting wide open threes and Duke obliged.

But arrogance Eyeroll

I don't think I've seen Tyler Herro make a shot all season. I know he makes them but not in the games I watch. Admittedly, I don't watch very much Kentucky or SEC basketball if I don't have to.

Wouldn't y'all need to give me some credit before you can take some away? Isn't taking a shot at my CBB command a little cheap? Secondly, you don't know me, is pretending understanding Par for the course around here?

What I believe is that results matter and excuses are just that, excuses. We don't get an excuse for losing to Kansas missing a key player and Duke doesn't either.

No one has presented the case that Duke would beat Syracuse at full strength with time to plan and gotten any argument from me. How hard it that for you to understand? My argument is though Duke had some bad luck regarding personnel doesn't give them a pass in the rankings.

I'd have to see the draw. No not impossible, but I don't see them winning 6 in a row against unfamiliar different styles in the tournament. I was surprised at how easily Duke got to the rim and scored last night without Jones. Teams with athletic guards are going to give them trouble. Of all the top teams their margin for error is the smallest IMO due to the slow methoical style of play.

Duke basically beat them in the half court last night. I don't even remember Duke scoring in transition, which has been their game all year.

Totally agree. The fact that they’re 2-1 to win the title seems a bit absurd.

There's not a single team we'll play all year that has the type of penetrators that Duke has in the half court. Barrett and Zion are ridiculous with the ball in their hands. FSU has athletic guards. We destroyed them. VT has athletic guards. We murdered them. If you want to use this Duke game as the barometer for how we'll fare against "teams with athletic guards", go ahead.

I'm not talking about in the ACC. Bennett has been great in conf play. If they get the final 4 and or win the tourney I'll come back and say I was wrong.

I don't need you to say that you're wrong. You may very well end up being right this time. It's hard to make a final four. But I will probably be a huge dick to everyone on this board if UVA wins it all. I've had to take a lot here :)

Well pisgah sorry, but you just blabbing that out don't make it so, either point out my folly or shut up.

Y'all could win 8 straight titles and still get made fun of for last year until some other team loses to a 16.

Yeah but I won’t care at all. I won’t care if we win one title.

I can't believe I'm being lectured about arrogance on a CBB board by a Kentucky Wildcat.Laughing

I’m not an arrogant UK fan. I’m a realist. Yes I think TN is a pretty good team. Yes Barnes has done a good job coaching since taking over the ugly orange. But I also believe UK is pretty good team, and getting better. Anyway, you should feel privileged being lectured by any blue blood fan... Winking

There is that ole UK arrogance I've known and despised. Well kitten, listen up, there is a new sheriff in town. When Barnes and the boys ride into Rupp, Hell will be riding with them.:)

I like Duke just fine, players on the dl don't count for others as an excuse and shouldn't count for Duke. What does Duke have as a back up, a 5 star McDonald's All America? Poor things...
3* sophmore

I got it from the 1993 movie, Tombstone with Kurt Russell and Sam Elliot. Judging from your posting adeptness, you were probably not born yet.

Duke.

They will beat themselves, as always.

Strange take.
