Multiple McDonalds All Americans. Experience. Length. And what’s most impressive, the depth. 10 deep or more.

Houston has an argument for number one. Purdue does too. Who else?

Poor Lool-vulle. Have their best team in a decade and still gonna get smoked by daddy next year.

Good depth, no stars. Need multiple guys to take big steps.

Kentucky has went from a un athletic good shooting team, to an athletic non shooting team. Nobody other than Oklahoma is afraid of Oweh.

And honestly, when I heard Oweh was coming back (not that he was going to get drafted) I came here figuring JC was slobbering, instead it’s Jimbo lol

Funny how you've come a runnin' to spew your U6 drivel, BLOCKHEAD. ANY UK news is a dogwhistle for you.

Plenty of question marks. Could be really good...could be just decent. The most talented guy just had ACL surgery.

I think their 20+ mil could've been spent better, but we'll see.

Florida. Just as it was last year.

Kentucky kicked your ass at full strength tbf. Probably the best game UK played all year. But I'd definitely have Florida among others ahead of UK next year to start.

Off the top of my head I'd say in some order-

Tier 1- Houston, Florida, Purdue

Tier 2- BYU, Michigan, UConn, Kentucky, UCLA, St. John's, UL, Duke, Arkansas

Plenty of question marks. Could be really good...could be just decent. The most talented guy just had ACL surgery.

Think Pope was hyper focused on adding depth after last year with the injuries. Definitely gonna be interesting to see if he made the right call about depth versus high end talent.

In your opinion, what would you have done separately?

Like RR said, it seems like they prioritized depth over high end talent. Or at least that's how it shook out. Quaintance is the only portal add that I'd consider an elite talent and his health is a question mark.

I'd have sacrificed some depth to add a few proven badasses. And I'd have made Darryn Peterson an offer he couldn't refuse. Although maybe they didn't have the green light to spend that kind of money at that point.

I wouldn’t have minded adding a sharp-shooting guard. They don’t really have anybody like Sheppard, Reeves, Dilly, or Brea that they have the past few years. Louisville is hoarding them all. 🤣

I def don’t expect UK to light it up from deep this coming season but I’ll take the trade off to add more athleticism and playmaking ability and some defenders that are more capable of staying in front of someone as opposed to dudes that couldn’t guard a statue. Highly doubtful Pope will want this squad to to fire up 30 3s a game. Now they have some drivers and dudes that can create their own shots (unlike last year, save for maybe Oweh but he’s not a great ball-handler). I think they’ll be attacking the rim a lot more this season, which in itself should lead to some open looks from 3.

How do you think KU is set up for next year, btw? I didn't put them on my list (though they could be added, my main point was there's a huge group in the middle after the top few teams imo), but it seems like other than Peterson ya'll didn't add that much.

I agree with you though with your take. I would much rather have a Yaxel than the bigs we signed (though JQ could be that tier if he's healthy).

I’d say if the freshmen look like freshmen, and Quaintance isn’t close to 100%, they could be a fringe top 20ish team. Probably not much worse than that. Should be a deep field again though.

Fair enough.

I think this UK team can be really good, but it's going to require JJ living up to the hype and several players taking a step up (Lowe with efficiency, Aberdeen, Diabate, Garrison).

I'd be surprised if this team isn't top 15ish all year, but you never know how guys are going to mesh/improve. Tough schedule too so who knows. I'm excited though.

Garrison needs to take a HUGE step both in maturity and his ability to play good and smart basketball. He has the ability, but will his brain catch up to unlock it?

A lot of KU fans are in panic mode, but it's mostly the usual chicken littles who think the sky's falling because they haven't been a top 2 seed in a couple years.

KU's b-ball budget is limited right now for several reasons, including that they're building an expensive new football stadium, investing much more in football, and paying two coaches huge salaries. After the stadium's built, I think they'll be up there with Duke, Kentucky, etc in NIL, but right now they're just not. Probably not even close. Also, I think they were caught off guard by players' asking prices this year. They weren't expecting every good player to be looking for 3-4 mil.

The staff is doing what they can with the budget constraints, but it's caused them to miss out on players like Williams and Sarr, and it's kept them from even getting in the door with others. They've had to spend carefully, but I like what they've done so far. If they'd landed Williams or Sarr, I'd be feeling really good about the roster. As is, it feels like they need one more impact player.

But even with an unfinished roster and some question marks, Odds Shark has KU top 10 in odds to win the title, just behind teams like Florida and BYU (Kentucky's #6). I think a lot of fans are underselling what they have. The entire roster is athletic (far more than the last few years), and the majority can pass and create.

Tiller and Elmarko Jackson are major question marks. Both are former 5 stars and Tiller was considered one of the top players in his class before getting injured. Hard to predict how they'll bounce back from their injuries. The staff seems to expect more from them than most fans do.

Melvin Council is basically a Tyshawn Taylor clone. Really like what I've seen from him. I think he and Dawson are underrated. Most sites have Tre White ranked highest out of the transfers, but he's the one I'm least excited for. Should be a solid role player though.

A lot will depend on just how good Peterson is. The ball's going to be in his hands a ton. Self thinks he's the most talented and NBA-ready player he's ever had and I think that's probably true. I expect him to have a much bigger impact than Wiggins, Josh Jackson, etc.

They could use another shooter. I'm hoping they have enough to land Avdalas from Greece. Hell of a prospect, and he can probably be had for cheaper than what Williams/Sarr were offered. Not sure where they stand though.

Duke's roster was the best. They just blew it.

Duke’s only real edge was Flagg. If he went off, it would have been a great game. Florida had better guards, better bigs, and a better bench. Florida was also older. I think Duke was a better matchup for Florida than Houston. Duke was more talented than Houston, but Houston was older, tougher, and much more disciplined on the defensive end. I think Florida’s guards would have had much success on the perimeter against Duke, and that would have opened up lobs for our bigs.

I don't trust him to improve. My asshole tightened up every time he entered the game.
Ditto. I'll believe it when I see it, and I don't expect to see it. He was a huge liability this past season. He can't do shit offensively (besides bricking layups) and is too dumb and undisciplined on defense to utilize his size, length, and athleticism to his advantage.

Thanks for the write up. Like I expected, you think a lot is gonna rest on Peterson. Which is risky, but as Flagg just showed if you have the right guy that's still not a bad bet. I was surprised to see y'all outbid for Williams, though after last year maybe that's not a bad thing.

Didn’t realize I wrote a novella til after I posted.

I think NC State offered Williams almost 4 mil. Insane. Players like that were getting under 1 mil last year.

Wondering what kind of degenerative behavior Bill’s going to try to keep in his periphery from his players this season? Dont waste everyone’s time acting like this season will be different. Bunch of future inmates.

Meh. Most talent sure. Best is another story. We had crazy depth especially in the front court. Then we had Walter Fkn Clayton. Fookin legend that guy!

I think this year there will be a lot of really strong teams. 15-20 really good teams near the top. Will be a fun season. Florida has the front court depth but for us to be a top team our transfer guards need to play at a very high level. Will be hard to replace Clayton, Richard, and Martin.
