Let me restate that. I hate people and owners who don't recognize how dangerous the breed is.
Agreed. So annoying when pit owners lash out at anyone skeptical of the breed. They are blinded by bias and can’t refuse to accept any facts regarding the breed.

Between 2005 and 2017, pit bulls accounted for 65.6 percent of dog bite fatalities. Only 20 percent of the dog population in the US are considered Pitbull-type dogs.

And that's just humans. Do you have the dog on dog fatality rate? I cannot bring my dog friendly dog to the dog park anymore because of how risky it is with owners bringing pitbulls to the same parks.

I tried finding any information about dog on dog attacks and kept getting more about humans being attacked. I would have to think its a fairly similar number. Aggressive dogs are aggressive no matter who they are attacking.

My dog is super sweet and friendly like yours is. I am super protective of him any time he's around another dog. I can't help but get nervous if he's around a Pitbull.

Right but pit bulls were breed to be dog aggressive. It’s in their genes. My Australian Cattle Dog is amazing and the friendliest dog I’ve ever seen. But if she gets too lost on a play session she nips dogs heels like Cattle Dogs were breed to do when herding cattle. She’s never been on a farm. Never taught to “herd”. But it’s genetically bread into her and comes out sometimes.

Your average “nice” pitbull is going to be way more likely to attack another dog than your average nice border collie.

My dog loves to play the chase game being the one getting chased. If she were to be chased by a pitbull I’d worry that if she got caught that pitbull might not realize it’s still a game.

Not a fan of pit bulls. Like Jimbo said, some are nice dogs, but they are naturally more aggressive than other breeds.

This. Terrifies me when I see dog owners at a park that requires leashes..let their dogs (bigger ones especially) run up to your dog. Not all dogs are friendly. Shit pisses me off.

And if one dog is leashed:

1. it will feel more defensive because it’s handicapped

2. the other dog will perceive it as weaker because it’s handicapped

Not ideal.

We had an instance at our off leash dog park where my dog was surrounded by three pit bulls whose owners were 80 feet behind. My dog darted off because he liked to be chased. All the pits chased her through the words. My heart stopped because I had no idea what would happen if they caught her in the woods. She is fast as shit though and got out. She ran towards us, I scooped her and held her in the air. The three dogs started jumping on me to get to her until finally their owners, with more urgency at all, called grabbed them.

That's grounds for a fight right there. I have had an Akita attack my dog before. These things are monsters, males are easily over 100 lbs. Luckily my dog was able to outrun the other one after only one bite, but I was FURIOUS. Got up in the owners face and started cursing him out. He is a neighbor that lives about 10 houses down from me, and he keeps this dog leashed up outside his garage 24/7. That alone will make the dog even more aggressive towards other dogs that aren't chained up.

Anyways, I pass this house every day walking my dog, and I gear myself up every time just in case that dog gets lose again. I have warned the owner, if that dog comes close to mine again, I have no problem hurting it.

So annoying you have to live with that fear now because he sucks as an owner.

Agreed with everything you said above.

and damn that’s ****ed up. Did you get a chance to speak to the other dogs owners? I would’ve been livid.

Dude, Akita’s are no joke. My buddy had one a long time ago (since passed) but damn that thing was almost like a wild animal.

My buddy has a Cain Corso/Akita mix. That is a badass dog. They have a blanket with a rope and a ball attached to it, their youngest daughter loves to hold onto the blanket and let the dog (Dexter) pull her around. That dog is sweet as can be unless someone he doesn't know gets near the girls. He will intimidate the shit out of anyone protecting them.

Nah, outnumbered 3 to 1 and they were scummy looking people. Not worth the risk. But because we can’t burn her energy at dog parks anymore we’ve started doing dog sports.

Can be(dangerous). First part of your statement is why most(Pits) are/become dangerous. My boss's son owns a pit. Gentle as can be. Beautiful dog---gray/silver, with blue eyes.

I'd be cautious owning one with owning one with young children, who simply don't undertand the aggressive nature of the animal----A simple, "smack, kick, etc, etc....:, just being playful COULD be dangerous. Its why my budy waited until his daughter was old enough to understand.

IMO, these dogs gets a bad rap. I understand their nature. But hell humans are the same. If you beat on us, train us to hate/attack, mistreat, etc, etc.....we are no better. Hell that damn near goes for almost any dog.

That’s not all it is.

Generations after generation of Australian cattle dogs were bred to herd cattle. It’s in their blood. That’s why my cattle dog who has never seen a cow still has herding instincts and will tend to nip the ankle when playing rough. It’s in her blood. We manage it by giving her a tennis ball when we are around other dogs and she keeps that in her mouth instead of herding.

Generation after generation of Pit Bulls were bred to fight animals, including other dogs. It’s in their blood. Many pitbull attacks on other dogs are by cuddly wiggle butts. An off leash dog park is no place for breed that has a genetic predisposition to high prey drive and fighting dogs.

If your family or friends want to take that risk in their own house, so be it. Bringing them to a dog park is irresponsible, period.

Yeah, pit bulls should be leashed or in a fence or something. They don't need to be around people that aren't their owners or other dogs.

I’ve thought how nice it would be to have a pitbull only dog park. But pitbull owners wouldn’t wanna go there because there would be other pitbulls.
