What’s wrong with taking a flier for your 13th scholarship on someone like him? Not that crazy.
It is with the new transfer rules. You all say he is redshirting this year, so that takes away a scholarship for 5 years. Taking a flyer on a guy isn’t that bad for someone with high potential. However, Waddell is a low ceiling player.

I don’t hate him, I just don’t think he is Big Ten caliber. Just seems like a wasted scholarship.
Could turn out that way but it’s not like Painter had to offer him as a “type B” type recruit. Liked him enough to think he was worthy of a scholarship on his own merit even though Purdue had 2 other forwards in the class.

Apparently played really well over the summer too in which there was even a little hesitation about redshirting him even though that was the plan all along. You could have viewed Sasha as a flier too & he’s scored well over 100 career points & will be vital for the upcoming preseason top 10 team.

Program guys like this can be so underrated.

Isn’t Painter really good friends with Waddell’s dad?

Redshirting Waddell puts him in a class with Smith, Loyer, Heide, and Morton (if he redshirts this year). Just seems like so much overlap among those players to take a flyer on someone with Waddell’s ability.

I don’t think Painter is making decisions based on who he is friends with lol his livelihood is literally on the line with each & every scholarship. And those guys all play different positions? (At least 3 different positions & Waddell can probably play the 4) they are all white though, I’ll give you that.

But idk why you’re capping someone’s ceiling of who hasn’t played a minute of college yet

It just doesn’t make sense why you would want those 5 players in the same class at the 1-3 (I don’t see Waddell at the 4). Especially when the other guards that will be on the roster next year are IT and Newman (obviously Newman is really good). Not much room to pickup instant impact guards next year in the transfer portal.

That’s a lot of skill at those positions. Purdue has a history of players getting better at defense in the latter part of their careers & even turning that perceived weakness into a strength. (Hunter, Mathias, R. Davis, etc.) Plus Colvin in the following year is a perfect complement to those guys.

I keep forgetting about Colvin somehow but that dude is legit. Love that he’s top 75 already on 247.

Kid is legit. Sky is the ceiling with that athleticism/those bloodlines. But Rabjohns had him as a midmajor+ when Purdue offered him so that has me nervous 🤭

Skill yes, athleticism, no. Purdue had started recruited skilled and athletic players (Newman, Ivey, Kaufman, and Furst). Just seems like this is a step back in that area.

Rabjohns has said a lot of dumb shit but that one was definitely toward the top.

Be honest, are you just saying that because the ones you listed are white even if they are athletic for their position?

Smith, Loyer, and Morton are not athletic. Heide and Waddell are okay athletes, but nothing special. Since you brought up Colvin, compare those 5 to him athletically. Not even in the same ballpark.

Lol you are a joke. Heide is at best an average athlete and he is the most athletic of the bunch.
This just further proves the point. If Heide is just an average athlete, then I’d like to see what you consider an above average athlete. You’re acting like they grow 6’6 guys with good lateral movement & vertical leap & ability to shoot the ball on trees. He’s more athletic than Vince Edwards was coming into Purdue, but I get it. He’s white.

Is Trey Galloway an above average athlete? Ivey is a good college athlete. Zion was an elite college athlete.

Players with Heide’s size and athleticism are a dime a dozen in the Big Ten. Vince Edwards was not an above average athlete. But I get it, make it a race thing.

Ivey is a great college athlete. Heide is a better athlete than Galloway and Kopp. Though Galloway isn’t a bad athlete, just not a good b-ball player yet). And that’s just not true but you do you.

Heide is on the same level athletically as Galloway and Leal. Kopp is not as good of an athlete as any of those 3, and I never said he was, so I’m not sure why you brought him up.

Let’s see if you will answer honestly. Why does Purdue generally not do well under Painter when they get to the Sweet 16? (Yes, I know they got passed that round last time). What stands out between the teams they lose to in those games?

I’ve seen it said 100+ times on the Purdue board, so we will see how honest you are.

Is that supposed to be an impressive dunk? Open the video below and go to 45 seconds. Anthony freaking Leal does basically the same thing except it’s in a game and an alley oop.

Gonna go ahead and say if you can do the between the legs dunk, you are better than an average college athlete. One min mark. Once again, this was 2 yrs ago as a Soph.

Those teams don’t lose an irreplaceable player to a season ending injury?

And I’m going to go ahead and say that you would be wrong. Especially for a guy his size. Now if he were 6’ doing that, it may be different.
