He is a more legitimate contender for BTPOY than Williams IMO. I think he’s about to explode this year.

The difference between Trevion and Liddell is really splitting hairs. Gun to my head I’d bet on Liddell for end of reason 1st team over Trevion because I could see Edey forcing himself into. 18-20 mpg. Trevion’s counting stats would take a slight hit.
Liddell can actually shoot from 3 and guards better on the perimeter.

Theoretically speaking if he was on Purdue instead of Trevion, he’d probably be able to play more minutes at the 4 with Edey on the court.

That versatility probably gives him the edge even if their counting stats end up really close.

I’m jaded because I watched Trevion go for 36 points and 20 rebounds against us.

So the preseason media poll comes out tomorrow (I think). How do you think they vote?

I'm guessing:

POY - Kofi
DPOY - Ayala

1st team:
Kofi
Ivey
Dickinson
TJD
Trevion

2nd team:
Curbelo
Liddell
Ron Harper Jr

Damn, struggling with last 2. I'm guessing I'd lean DeVante Jones or Caleb Houston and maybe Ayala. Am I missing anyone? Does anyone give Bohannon a nod for his longevity?
Isn’t the preseason all big ten team just ten players and doesn’t differentiate first and second team?

If what Brian said about Ivey is correct in that he had the second most POY votes, I’d assume Kofi will be preseason POY. Dickinson might have a chance, and he's actually where my vote would go as I think he'll have a monster season.

Besides the point, but remember when Purdue guys were called homers for thinking he'll be first team, and now he might've garnered the second most POY votes? Bunch of homers imo.

Then the list will be:
Kofi
Ivey
Dickinson
TJD
Liddell
Tre Williams
Ron Harper
Curbelo
Ayala
Caleb Houstan? Geo Baker? I dunno.

Interesting, didn't they just include a list of 10 dudes the last several years that were the "Preseason All Big Ten Team"?

Looks like a good first team, that'd probably be my selection. I agree with the sentiment that Liddell is primed for a huge year - he'll improve and will be relied upon more without Washington.

The Columbus Dispatch posted the article. They may have just been basing the teams off the number of votes they each received.

Houstan is about as well positioned as possible for a big freshman year. Very talented, already has a B1G POY candidate to shoulder the load, and has some experienced guards around him. I think he'll be really hard to beat out there, as he should be able to really play to his strengths.

That and the 9 rounds of Mich vs Illinois (we beat you twice, we got to the E8, blah blah blah time loop). They’re about to head into the championship rounds.
If we get it again next off-season, it's going to challenge the Purdue-IU 3 pt shooting debate for most hashed out debate in B1G thread history.

Michigan State has more top 75 recruits on their roster than Purdue, Illinois and Ohio State combined and yet is projected to finish behind each.

That is some impressive player development. I am soooo looking forward to the national media blow Izzo when he gets Mady Sissoko to be a 13/7 guy as a senior.
All that being said, I will be impressed if he gets Hauser to not play like a complete pussy this year.

That probably won’t happen though

Kind of off topic, but since you mentioned top 75. I don't normally debate much about Purdue recruit rankings b/c they're generally either not skilled but athletic or very skilled but not super talented...

...but it always blows my mind that Ivey wasn't top 75. RSCI 87 for a guy that has so many of the qualities you look for in a lead guard.

The fact that AJ Hoggard and Marcus Bingham were top 75 is crazy looking back.

We have also had more success than any of those programs since Izzo has gotten here. I’m not saying last year wasn’t disappointing and recruits definitely haven’t panned out somewhat, but we have been a really successful program that gets a 5 star less than every 2 years.

No, but I sure could go for a refresher. A very long detailed post would jog my memory.
rivals is the worst.

funny how people complain about how BU CAN'T RECRUIT. but suddenly a service actually give Illinois good rating, those same people trash that service. its like they don't want Illinois to get decent ratings for the team.

just so they can rip on BU for not being able to recruit.

Frazier was a 4* by ESPN 4* by Rivals
Kofi and Curbelo were both 4* top 100
hawkins was a 3* by Rivals 4* top 100 by ESPN

Rival rates purely on offers then their final rankings on who they commit to
Payne never got a blue blood offer
Goode never got that blue blood offer
Melendez dropped on Rivals to out of the top 100 all because a blue blood never offered, even Rival top man said trhat RJ needed that blue offer to JUSTIFY his high rankings
ESPN rates RJ a top 60 recruit.

247 rated Kofi a 4* now after 2 seasons he is not playing like a 4* player now is he.

when people/writers talk about a players ratings the source they use is ESPN.

as I call them ESECPN can rate Illinois recruit higher than the other 2, that's saying something.

but hey go ahead and trash the service that gives Illinois recruit more respect than Rivals or 247. boy you must really hate the Illinois team to trash the service that thinks more highly of them.
