I’m bored so make those cases over Michigan.
I believe Jeff Goodman has Ohio State ranked 2nd in the nation for next season, plus CBS also has Ohio State ahead of Michigan for next season as well. Of course, a lot can change before the season starts, but it seems like the consensus is a top four of OSU, UM, Purdue & Terps...

The same Jeff Goodman that had Michigan 45th going into this year? Not convincing.

Ouch, yeah to say he was off would be an understatement.

Looking at some other rankings for next season, ESPN has three teams in the the top ten, not including Michigan (17th), but Andy Katz has Michigan 2nd for next season, with Purdue, OSU and MD also in his top ten..

I wouldn't bet on Michigan against the field, but I'm not sure what the case would be for a single team over Michigan.

1. We return a preseason All-American.
2. We return two other starters from an Elite 8 run.
3. You could take away our 3 McD's All-American recruits (Houstan, Diabate, Bufkin) and we'd still have the #2 class in the Big Ten.

Top half of the conference -yes. Top 3 or 4 team? I think that varies, since OSU, Michigan, Purdue and MD can also make a case at being the best next season..
OSU? They better recruit a 5 or their best player is leaving.
We would be returning our entire rotation minus Ayo and add talent elsewhere. And if you add Tre Mitchell, that’s a top 5 team. Our center would be a NPOY candidate, our point guard is a stud, and he’s surrounded by shooters. Top 3 or 4 in the conference is expected of that team-not an outside shot.

Valid, but OSU returns three key players, Liddell, who could be a preseason all American pick, Sueing & Washington. I'm also seeing MSU getting love in the preseason 25 for next season as well- Big Ten could be loaded again...

Our offseason is all about what Harper and Geo do. If both come back I return two of the twenty kids who made the Coaches All-B1G teams (Harper 3rd team, Geo Hon. Mention) with a pretty nice supporting cast. I think we'd be pretty good again. Lose both and we would finish somewhere from 8th to 11th, I would think. We're not sucking again as long as Pikiell has the job.

I'll spend all off season lamenting the perfect draw I just had only to fumble away the last four minutes v. Houston. We also beat Cuse and Oregon State I think. Only team of destiny in history to blow the destiny part.

11th would have plenty of suck to it. As would 8th. Not Iowa level but close.

You are going to struggle. I imagine around 10th

All I’m saying is:

Turns 67 next season.
Had his worst season this century.
Might lose 4 scholarship players he recruited to the portal.

If that is a good outlook for you then cool.

Wait who’s the 4th?

Hoiberg is a walk-on who was given a 1 year scholarship as a junior because we had an open spot.

Guy played a solid 10 minutes of actual non garbage time basketball in his career here. And is going to UT Arlington because there’s not scholarship room here and he wants to go actually play.

Spartans lost their backup SG, 3rd string center, and potentially their 3rd string PG.

So basically what Michigan lost last year in players that weren’t even recruited by our coach (Dejulius, Bajema, Castleton) and you guys acted like it was problem that Juwan had so many people wanting out of his program.

Make up your minds, I can’t keep your trolling straight.

Depending on how quickly the freshman develop, MSU could have a nice team next year. I really like this transfer PG’s video. He looks shifty and has a quick release. Looks more like a scoring PG but I would think it will be more difficult in the B10 compared to wherever he was at before.

Pierre Brooks looks really built for a kid coming out of highschool so I think that will help him get some early minutes but no idea how good he can be. Akins has good length but seems more raw than both Christie and Brooks. Christie should be able to come in and hit shots from day 1. Having a 6’6 pure shooter will be a well needed addition.

I’d like to see another transfer. Someone on the wing ideally. Maybe Bates reclassifies? Not sure on that. I’m actually really happy with the transfers. Hoiberg was a gift to his dad. Kithier was limited and Rocket was just a bad fit/recruiting miss. It sucks it didn’t work out but I won’t miss that broken jump shot. Overall we get 4 new faces that can add some actual PG play, shooting, and athleticism. Not bad but still more work to do.

I cheated on a girlfriend at Purdue (not my finest hour) and got caught.

She didn't hold a grudge as long as Hail does when someone critiques Michigan basketball.

Yeah, when I first remember reading these boards, I remember thinking that Hail seemed like a cool/conversational guy. As Michigan has risen the ranks, he talks more like he's on a cable news talk show as a partisan hack, except his political party is Michigan Basketball.

Ohio State ( like every team ) is a complete unknown in terms of the roster.

The expectation is they will return all 5 starters and add Wheeler who was 1st team all B10 on defense. The expectation in two hours could be nobody returns. Different landscape altogether.

Who is your expected Center next year, Key?

^ Yeah, I have never had an offseason where my expectations for Illinois basketball range from "Try to get another No. 1 Seed" to "Be on the right side of the Bubble" just depending on who is literally on the team, haha.

So because last year some freaked out over 3 rotation players for UM leaving.

You are trying to lump “losing” Hoiberg into some bigger issue?

No idea on Reid, but if Young returns I think he’ll start and get the majority of the minutes. I do believe that Osu will add another big , whether it be Reid or a transfer.
Idk, i'd've to think Reid's C1 from the time he steps on campus, should he choose OSU. Liddell at the '4' , Key as backup center and Young rcving fewer minutes, period, compared to this past season. That's a pretty bad-ass front court.

If Reid or a transfer big does choose Osu then I do believe Young will play fewer minutes but would still start and play the most minutes.
