Teams tried that last year. He got in foul trouble in like 5 games all year.

Unfortunately for other teams he doesn’t have to foul to contest and alter shots.
You’re right, Illinois didn’t have anyone else teams had to gameplan around last year….

I think there’s some undue piling on on your posts, but your minimizing of Ayo leaving is pretty wild.

I think it's safe to say that Underwood is in a league above Groce. Maybe 2. He just landed 2 top 100 guards for 2022 which makes 7 since he's been here. Weber and Groce landed 6 from 2004-2017. He's going to have a tourney team for what should've been the third year in a row.

Who can you legitimately put above him in conference if we have the season we should (I know that's an assumption).

Painter
Izzo
Juwan likely
I think Holtmann is up there, but I think he'll finish below Underwood again.

He's at least top 5 in a conference full of really good coaches, and potentially top 3 or 4.

Fvck it. WE'RE ON AN UPSWING. Laughing

Not sure why Holtmann doesn’t get more love but it probably works out best that he doesn’t.

Yeah, I’m sure having Ayo on our roster is why teams didn’t target Kofi on the defensive end to get him in foul trouble.

Yikes, bro.

Illinois is obviously going to be way more formidable with Kofi, but I’m pretty interested to see how he does against game plans entirely focused on getting him in foul trouble.

Teams didn’t try that strategize last year?

Ayo was the best player on the team but Kofi was the most valuable based on the rest of the roster. If you don’t think Andre Curbelo will be a star then...

That's been the gameplan for teams ever since he arrived. He's fouled out 1x in his career.

Hail likes KenPom. Thus I use it with him only. Lol

I think he gets a lot of respect, but he hasn't put together a complete roster yet. That's limited him from taking the next step. He inherited a good roster and finished 3rd in conference, then finished 8th, 5th, and 5th. I think he likely finishes at best 4th or 5th again this season, so I think calling him the 5th best coach in conference is pretty fair.

I’m just saying from an opportunity cost perspective it logically doesn’t make as much sense to solely focus on trying to foul out Kofi when they have another all American and top 3 player on the floor.

Like you and other Illini fans have said, he’s faced these tactics before and has been able to stay out of foul trouble. I just think it may be a bit more difficult when he’s the sole focal point of opposing game plans.

We played 10th ranked Loyola in the second round according to KenPom.

UCLA wasn’t ranked higher than them. Congrats on beating scrubs on your way to an Elite 8. Nobody was impressed.
I didn’t say a word about UCLA

take a fvcking lap

we lost our best player still made the elite 8

lol Loyola

I hope other teams focus on stopping Kofi. Curbelo will average 10+ apg hitting open shooters.

Your run impressed no one. Congrats on LSU, Florida St, and Texas Southern. Such a big run!

Oregon State’s Elite 8 run was more impressive.

Our full body of work was better too.

Unfortunate we ran into 10th ranked Loyola, according to KenPom, in the second round.

Michigan lost to the 13th ranked team in the elite 8. Congrats on having an easy bracket?

It’s ironic that you cite Kenpom and still ignore this

Him being the focal point of our offense instead of being the second option is the only thing that will change.

Defensively we will run the same stuff as the last two years and he will continue to stay out of foul trouble. Teams try him, it doesn’t work.

Lolololol

Just no

Mike smith over Isiah 🤣🤣🤣🤣 who are you fvcking people ?
Is Livers getting drafted higher than Franz? Lol no

Smith and Dickinson were more valuable to your team because brown was way better than their backups. Any way you look at it Livers was not your best player.

Cool

I’ll take livers and his TEAM LEADING SCORING and BEST 3 point shooter you take Mike Smith

You care ALOT and you’re fvcking pissed about it
Michigan State played a better game against UCLA.

I mean Michigan couldn’t even get to 50 against them. Yikes.

Better hope you get that type of a path again in the next tourney because Juwan can’t coach against teams with similar talent pools.

Are you guys hanging an Elite 8 banner for such an impressive run?
At Michigan ? Lol no we’re not a TRASH second tier program like Illinois who would DEFINITELY hang an elite 8 banner . Lol at the thought of you guys actually achieving that though

4th? Don’t be an idiot. Our top 3 were Dickinson, Wagner, and Livers in some order.

Livers averaged 13 and 6 and 43% from three.
No need for name calling.

Michigan fan extragrates Livers importance and then cites an inaccurate stat.

Good player but not the best.

If it was so easy maybe Illinois should try it sometime.
Oregon State lol

You seem really insecure, maybe it’s because you lost to an 11 seed.

I mean 50 points isn’t really hard to get to…

Lol inaccurate

take a lap he was our best player that’s why Hunter fell of a cliff when he got hurt because there was no one to space the floor and he kept getting doubled

take another lap

best part about Illinois losing to Loyola was Loyola lost the very next round 🤣🤣🤣🤣 they weren’t even good 🤣🤣

JFC you think you’ve seen it all, but then a potatoe named Gillinois shows up and trashes an E8 run while making excuses for a R32 exit.

Purdue fans lost in the first round to North Texas. And you think Purdue should be a preseason top 10 team lol
