I’m good with this as long as we get Newman. At the same time, I would be good with Franklin as well.

Agreed. As long as Purdue doesn't end up with both I am good. The good thing is Franklin will have decided before Newman's official to IU this weekend.

Yup. I haven't seen either play so I can't say which one I'd want more. I just want to start seeing some commitments for 2019. Give me one of the guards and TJD and anything else will be gravy.

That has been the assumption for awhile and Purdue is oozing confidence. You never know. Purdue was oozing confidence on Damezi Anderson as well.

Yeah that's a good point. Definitely think there are different dynamics in play here in that Franklin is very close with Thompson and don't recall if Anderson was close with any of the Purdue commitments (he could've been just don't remember). But I can see your point.

Seems like the consensus is still Franklin to Purdue as of this morning.

Interesting read on Painter's approach since the downturn (subscription required):

Good article and is pretty obvious he made a change to find players to fit his style. He has had a damn nice run. A step back will happen but I do not think it will be a significant step back because of Carsen.

Its all about consistency in recruiting. 2012 class basically ruined Crean's run at IU. That class being dreadful besides Yogi, who at the time was not the leader he would later become, killed all the momentum when Zeller, Oladipo, Hulls left. Painters 11-13 classes almost did the same to him.

I have a family member that coached in the B1G who always talked about how the wrong class can be absolutely devastating to a team. I think most coaches have gone through that, and it's apparently frustrating as hell.

Yeah may have to wait a little longer on a decision as well. Could be a good sign for Indiana. Who knows at this point.
Sounds like it may be the end of the week now. I'd say that is a slight bump for IU in the boilerzz crystal ball.

I tend to agree that they likely won't choose the same school, but don't think it's impossible.

But between the two, it's kinda strange. Generally speaking, I think a guy like Franklin -- a combo type that can score and that has some PG in his game -- is a great fit for Painter's offense. However, with the personnel we have on board, I actually think a pure off-ball, floor spreading guy like Newman would be the better choice at this time. Either way, I don't really think you can go wrong and will be happy with either.

Could see either way. It obviously means IU has made an impression if you believe in the fact that Purdue had a lead going into the visits. If it was enough does he pop for Indiana after thinking it over or he revert back to the choice of Purdue?

Agreed. At least is making it tough for Painter. I do hope a decision is made by Friday because this is when Newman begins his IU official. Could help things be a little less murky for that official.

Agreed. It continues to be reported that the they do not feel it would be in their best of interests to go to the same school. To be honest Indiana could use both of them as well since they are different players. I am go with either in-state guard and going for broke with a guy like Ramsey. IU will only have 3 real guards on the roster after this season, so plenty of opportunity.

I’d rather have Newman honestly but the fact that Franklin is deciding 1st lets me either have the guy I want or I get to tell Purdue fans we got our 1st choice and Purdue got the scraps.

Don't disagree with that, but still worry that the friendships will pull him to Purdue in the end.

Yeah, but you hated the Sun when you woke up this afternoon. #HateBecauseItsFun

Give me Ramsey over the other two. I have no idea why we are making such a big deal about a kid ranked outside of the top 100. I guess it is the offseason.
