*Official* B1G In-Season Thread

Can’t remember who said that, but it was a great take. I believe it was because it was because it wasn’t polished enough.
It was me. Never said he didn't have a post game. Just think it isn't as polished as someone like Happ, Haas, Hammons, etc.

He's a stud. Going to be a good NBA player, athletic, can block shots, rim run, hit the occasional jumper. Just think that some post players with a better game on the block.

the extension goes thru the end of Patricks SR season.

And rarely makes shot assisted from other players so not sure what games you're watching where Cline feeds Edwards?
You keep throwing these things out that are either subjective or without statistical basis like they're factual. Show me the stats, and I'll buy it. I know he's an iso guy, but it doesn't mean Cline's not getting assists to Edwards.

27% of Ryan Cline's offense is spot up shooting according to Synergy (91 FGA). That's by far his biggest contribution.10% lower than that is hand-offs for 51 FGA. I'll dig deeper when I get home.

Just watch the games man. You’ve been moving the goalposts from the original point regardless.

If you watch games you see that he just doesn’t sit in the corner like a mailbox and wait for teams to double Edwards to shoot wide open threes. Watch the plays I linked above to see some of the different ways he can get his shot off. Saying he’s one dimensional is asinine.

He shot double the amount of spot up than any other type of shot. That's not feels that's reals. Sorry bout shitting on ya narrative.

if Fran is such a terrible coach then how did he do this
6 .500+ seasons out of the last 7 seasons in BT play
5 20+ winning seasons out of the last 7 seasons
25 wins in a season tying for the 2nd most wins in Iowa's history
developed 4 1st Team All BT and 1 2nd team AA
4th NCAAT in 6 seasons
2 NCAAT wins
that's more than Iowa had in the 11 seasons before he was hired

playing short handed for most of the season at the 4 & 5 spots
Garza missed playing time due a concussion
Connor suffered a concussion and has not recovered since it happened.
Cook missed games due to a ankle injury

Iowa lost to 3 quad 1 teams and the 4th was a quad 2 team, I asked a question nobody replied.
tell me how or why those teams have ABSOLUTELY NO RIGHT TO WIN?
He sucks. Just watch the team every Feb and March. Clear as day. Dont care what ur rambling facts say.

It’s ok man. Every coach in the Big Ten would tell you he isn’t one dimensional. He made you look like an idiot with that awful pre-season prediction. He’s played like an All-B1G player this year. You were wrong. Own it.

Cline is also elitely bad in PNR and iso defense. 9th and 7th percentile, respectively.

His PER and win shares are comparable to Jalen Smith. Points are about the same, Jalen averages 7 rebounds to 1 assist while Cline averages 3 and 3. He might sneak on the 3rd team but It’s not an awful preseason projection.

Just owning you with stats. He benefited from having a guy that drew the focus of defenses. He's a catch and shoot and screen open shooter. Those are the only two scoring categories he was above average on. The rest he was pretty bad. His next best category was handoff which he was 43rd percentile on- again, below average. He wasn't even the best guarded shot taker on his team. Eifert was 90th percentile vs Cline's 82nd.

Pretty much what I've been saying which got the Purdue guys' panties all in a bunch.

Saying he would “nowhere close” to all Big Ten write him off as some cast-off was what he insinuated with the original projection.

He has the highest scoring average increase in the conference. He rebounds well for his size & leads a potential 3 seed in assists per game. Saying he’s one dimensional or that “he wouldn’t be close” to All-B1G is disingenuous.

Watch the clips above that I linked to show some examples of him benefitting from Edwards being double teamed. Lmao.

I don't need your anecdotes. I have multiple seasons worth of analytics.

How does he rebound well for his size? Kenpom has his OR% at .6% and DR% at 9.6%. He’s not a great rebounder, he’s not a great defender. He’s a spot up shooter who makes the extra pass when the defense slides.

Gotta love you constantly shifting the discussion when your original points get proven false.

And yes.
You’re the one who has shifted it from:

1.) Cline isn’t close to All-B1G

To

2.) He’s a spot up shooter who benefits from Edwards being double team so he gets all his points from being wide open.

To

3.) He’s a one dimensional player weeee look at my stats Aaron Jordan is waaaay better.

Meant moreso his position. Not size.

My whole point is he outperformed some awfully low & disingenuous expectations some posters set for him.

You can wittle it down to advanced analytics all you want but a lot of people didn’t think he’d play this well this year. That’s the point.

He is not a good rebounder. He should probably be a HM at best.

Looks like I'm gonna be rooting for Northwestern and UM tomorrow.
Will never root for Minnehaha.

Paths for Wisconsin to get the fourth seed:
1. Minnesota beats Maryland
2. Northwestern beats Purdue
3. Michigan beats Michigan State
4. Wisconsin beats Ohio State

If 1, 2, or 3 happens, Wisconsin gets the 4th seed over Maryland.
Otherwise, we have to do the hard work by beating Ohio State.

Edit: Maryland gets the 4th seed if none of the above happen.

1 is the claim and 2 and 3 are the reasons. Quality logic and reasoning program at Purdue?

As for AJ, I think he's pretty much the same player in a different system. We don't run him off of screens like Purdue does. He probably would be much better in your program than he is at Illinois, honestly. He had to play out of position all season long, he's not athletic enough to play our defense. Whereas your defense hides that type of player better.

He only has had 7 possessions off of screen sets this year. That's crazy to think about for such a good shooter. Just like Cline he has no PNR or iso ability. Defense is hard to judge because AJ played the post and Cline didn't.
