There was definitely talk of this being Painter's best team. Probably his third best behind 2010 and 2018.

How does a program with the resources and history like Illinois go 17 years in between S16’s?
Hire bad coaches. The thing is, all of our programs are built on more of a house of cards than we care to realize. 1 bad hire is just a hire away. And we had 2 of them. Underwood seems to be a great hire. But he could go away in a year or 2 and then it’s back to making a good hire.

Hopefully you get there this year with Ivey.

I mean this is Painter’s best Purdue team
I know why you're lashing out - and I totally understand.

Illinois needs Purdue to win tomorrow in order for the Illini to get a piece of the B1G title. So you're a de facto Boiler for the next 36 hours.

It's a helpless feeling rooting for Purdue. I get it; but we're all in this together tomorrow. And just know, that when things get really bad, the alcohol helps.

Godspeed, brother.

What's bracket matrix say?
It has them as a 12 seed. I think their average is in the low 11’s but there are enough teams beneath them that they fall to the 12 line. I think it’ll be close, but a win against Rutgers will help. They have 3 quad 1 wins and no quad 3/4 losses, so that’s a decent advantage over an objectively weak bubble.

They’re pretty clearly a not good team, but I wouldn’t be shocked if they got in with those aspects of their resume. That being said, I hope they don’t matchup with Michigan in the first round of the BTT because even if they beat Rutgers, I can’t imagine the committee would be too thrilled with back to back blowout losses to end the season to Purdue and Michigan.

You don't ever see an advertisement for alcoholism, but this really sells it

I could care less who wins between Purdue and Wisconsin.

Only reason I’d root for Purdue is because I’d rather Illinois smoke Wisconsin one more time in the BTT. Might help our seeding too.

@jwardelt and other Wisconsin fans right now

I think he was calling out your (and most people’s) misuse of that colloquialism. You mean you don’t care about the game, so what you should say is that you couldn’t care less.
I’m aware, I have been saying it wrong ironically for years. But now it’s a habit and it’s lost all irony lol

BTT has a remarkably even history:

Michigan State: 6 titles, 7 championship games, 32-17 overall (.653)
Ohio State: 4 titles, 9 championship games, 30-16 (.652)
Illinois: 3 titles, 7 championship games, 31-20 (.608)
Wisconsin: 3 titles, 7 championship games, 26-20 (.568)
Michigan: 2 titles, 4 championship games, 25-19 (.568)
Iowa: 2 titles, 3 championship games, 18-21 (.462)
Purdue: 1 title, 4 championship games, 14-22 (.389)
Minnesota: 0 titles, 1 championship game, 18-21 (.462)
Penn State: 0 titles, 1 championship game, 15-23 (.395)
Indiana: 0 titles, 1 championship game, 13-23 (.361)
Rutgers: 0 titles, 0 championship games, 4-6 (.400)
Nebraska: 0 titles, 0 championship games, 5-10 (.333)
Maryland: 0 titles, 0 championship games, 3-6 (.333)
Northwestern: 0 titles, 0 championship games, 9-24 (.273)

Considering the BTT has been in Indy 10 of the 23 seasons, Indiana's abysmal record really stands out. Also kind of surprised how badly Maryland has fared in the BTT, given they have mostly been good since joining the league.
