in this case rankings has nothing to do with it, Painter does a good job with the Bigs he does. Virginia and MD offer the close to home factor. to me ND is a long shot to get him.
ND is actually a favorite because Brey has deep connections to Dematha. He graduated from there and also coached there before joining Coach K’s staff.

I really thought Davis would be that 3rd leg of the stool this year but he didn't look like he was ever 100% and in the games that I saw, I'm not sure Archie ever really figured out how to play him and Morgan together successfully.
Which is crazy. With Davis and Morgan in at the same time, to me you put Davis on the block, Morgan on the wing/elbow, i.e. high post. Just thought that was pretty basic. Guess not.

Morgan sucking ass from shooting from the outside might have played a factor. Please continue thinking you are smarter though.

Yeah, never mind his ability to drive. Read better next time. I said the high post---Not the three point line. You know, like the elbow....FT line, etc, etc...Morgan struggled against bigger players, in the post. THis wasn't a secret. He excelled from the elbow, off the dribble. But hey, keep pretending you are smarter.

FYI, Buckeyes get the 2nd transfer Holtmann has been seeking. He will sit out the 2019-2020 season and then have two seasons of eligibility remaining.
“The Buckeyes have been a busy team under head coach Chris Holtmann in the world of the transfer portal and it appears they have struck again by reportedly landing former Cal forward Justice Sueing.
Stephen Means of Cleveland.com was the first to report the news.
Sueing, who measures in at 6-foot-7, 215-pounds, played two seasons with the Bears and averaged 14.3 points per game and six rebounds in 31 games of action. During Sueing's career, he has played in a total of 63 games for Cal”

Great get by Painter and staff. Purdue becoming a national brand starting to pay dividends.
Purely brand wise, Purdue is probably not top 5 in the Big Ten. I think most would consider MSU UM Indiana OSU and Maryland bigger brand names.

Inb4 snu starts claiming our entire fanbase thinks we're a national brand just because one random guy said it.

Bossi's thoughts on recent commit Jaden Ivey. Sounds like he will get a bump in the next update.

I didn't need to watch Purdue's most recent commitment, four-star Ethan Morton play on Friday night. I've got a good idea of what he can do. But, I did want to get a better look at combo guard Jaden Ivey who committed a few weeks before Morton and after seeing how his game is evolving, Boiler fans ought to be buying a lot of stock in the potential of Morton and Ivey playing together in the backcourt.

Ivey looked to be a little bigger than his listed 6-foot-3 to me and he has a low, tight handle and a big frame he uses to get where he wants to go. The guy can shoot with range, has a feel for passing and like Morton can play multiple backcourt spots so they give Matt Painter pair of versatile prospects and a really nice two man recruiting class.

RollLaughRollLaughRollLaughRollLaughRollLaughRollLaughno sweat that Ivey gets that 4th *

Eh no need to argue over semantics. Hs was probably just talking about pulling a kid out of PA.
Could be. Good get no matter where he’s from. He’s gonna be a damn good four year player. Makes me want to lock Galloway up ASAP. I’d take him and Leal and then focus on Lander and Furst the following year.

While im sure you're being sarcastic this is actually true. His teams are typically made up of a bunch of 3 stars and low 4 stars. If he's able to land top rated players his success will only increase.
this true better recruits lead to better success. just checked Rivals future Cast and they have Dickerson 100% to Purdue and Evans as the rivals reporter having Dickerson going to Purdue., he is also rated #26 overall. instant starter if he chooses and enrolls for Purdue,

I wasn’t trying to be sarcastic. He’s a very good coach. When taking into account how good Purdue will be, Matt Painter should be brought up, as should Beilein and Izzo.

Gotcha. I assumed you were being sarcastic since downplaying his coaching ability seems to be the "cool" thing to do by most of the regulars here. As far as hall we definitely wanted him, would have rather he went out of conference so we wouldn't have to play against him. Oh well.

I have a lot of respect for Painter as a talent evaluator as well. One reason I’m very excited for Malik Hall. He really wanted Hall.
Tough pill to swallow that our 19 & 20 class could’ve given us a 1-4 of Morton, Ivey, Newman, and Hall. I like Gillis' game and skill-set as he’s tailor-made for Painter’s system, but there’s some level of risk there that he won't fully recover or the injury will linger, and he’s simply not at Malik's level. You guys got a good one there.

I do feel like we’re gonna get Dickinson, which I have mixed feelings on. I think he’s going to be a force in college that can really score the ball and even shoot it a little, but I don't see him as a very good PNR big or someone that'll be a great rim protector. Outside of the fact that he has normally proportioned eye brows, he reminds me of a bigger, better Luka Garza. I'd prefer a more mobile PNR type big that can rim protect -- similar to what Kiryion Powell projects to be -- but I think that Dickinson's value would outweigh those fit concerns.

Will be interesting to see what happens, as Powell is very high on Purdue and is improving rapidly, but I think Painter badly wants Dickinson and is going to hold off on Powell to see what happens with Dickinson.

I don’t know a ton about Gillis but it seems like he would have been a 4 star if the injury hadn’t taken place. Seems like he’ll be a good player and obviously Painter wanted him, so he’ll be solid.

I completely agree with the PNR thing. Ward was far better than Tillman at being a scorer in the post and finishing, but MSU was the best version of themselves when Tillman and Cash were running the pick and roll. He was also way better than Ward defensively. Tillman was so good in the pick and roll, and also so good at defending the pick and roll. Ward wasn’t great at either. I’d much rather have a mobile pick and roll can switch 1-5 Center than a dominate post force.

Gillis is actually still a 4*. They left him out of the rankings since they were unable to evaluate him over the past year, but left him as a 4* because their prior evaluations rated him as a 4* type player.

And yeah the Ward/Tillman type discussion is what I'm interested in with Dickinson. One nice thing is watching Tillman in HS -- I knew he'd be a good player and was bummed we missed out, but I wouldn't have anticipated him turning into the type of big he is today. Hopefully Dickinson can do some similar things in terms of trimming down and getting more mobile, as he's already far more mobile than a guy like Haas. Also, we do already have some mobile, modern day bigs on the roster that could be used as a change of pace or different look.

If you could choose one, would you rather have Dickinson, or Carlson?

Carlson is the better fit, Dickinson is the best available talent and likely the biggest impact player, but I believe comes with some negatives. I want Dickinson most as of now, but would be happy with Carlson.

I'm coming around on Kiyron Powell as well, as he is rapidly improving and I think he can be an excellent PNR, rim running type big if he continues to develop.
