Nice win for Allen Fieldhouse

It does. UNC got screwed the other night when RJ was fouled and I have zero doubt that if they would have been at home they would have gotten the call (and they have certainly benefitted from calls in the past). I just think officials let the crowd impact them a lot, and I'm not saying I wouldn't, and many of them are just too old to keep up with the speed and athleticism involved in the game today.
100%. I think I said it in the ACC thread, but obviously I was pulling for GA Tech to win. But that was a foul, clear as day, on Davis to end the game. He was clearly shoved off his route to the basket. Refs swallowed their whistles.

I would be curious to see statistically if anybody has ever analyzed end of game calls/non-calls, and how often they favor the home team.

Maybe UK will get one at home against UT this Sat...lol

Dude...Purdue shot 21 3s, NW 27...not like NW shot 35 and Purdue shot 10 or less.

You are doing an awful lot of mental gymnastics to try and explain away the disparity...guarantee you wouldn't be doing that if the roles were reversed.

What were the stats in their first meeting in Evanston that NW won it OT? Guarantee you Purdue did not shoot 40 more FTs...provide those stats.

Here is your/Purdue's problem...they ain't gonna get that whistle in the tournament. In reality, they are being set up to fail. And then I am sure all Purdue fans will once again be crying about the lack of foul calls/FTA for Edey once Purdue is bounced again.

This guy is an ex-player who doesn’t have any bias toward either team. Purdue shot 41 free throws in the first game so pretty similar to the other night. NW shot 32 which is an anomaly since they only average about 16 a game.

I agree we likely won’t shoot 46 free throws in a tournament game and not sure what you’re referring to but we didn’t cry when we got bounced last year in terms of officiating. We lost because we couldn’t hit 3’s and turned it over too much. It’s that simple.

I think you are missing the point here...Purdue benefits from crazy home court advantage. Most people consider Mackey Arena (I think that's what it is called) one of the top 3 home courts in the nation. Purdue gets a ridiculous home whistle. That is a fact. Doesn't translate to the tourney my man.

Purdue shot 19 FTs vs FDU lol...and only shot five more threes than they did against NW the other night...

FDU triple teamed Edey the majority of the game and dared us to beat them with shooting. We either missed shots or turned the ball over trying to get it into Edey. Makes sense why we didn’t shoot as many free throws.

Precisely...all that triple teaming of Edey, where are all the fouls?

You made it clear he was triple teamed the majority of the game. You want me to believe that mid major FDU, who was at such an athletic and size disadvantage, triple teamed Edey the majority of the game without fouling? That's what I am too believe? If they employed the same strategy at Mackey, you think the same thing happens with respect to lack of fouls being called? Common dude..

I don’t know why it’s so hard to believe lol. He shot 10 free throws that game which was 3 more than he averaged for the season which of course includes the Mackey home-court advantage. He only took 11 field goals that game because they literally left our shooters wide open. Easier not to foul when you have 3 guys guarding a dude than one guy.

I don't know how KU fans do it but they seem to deflect everything away from them.

Are they just that boring folks get tired of talking about them and move on?

Duke is good at it too.

If I made a thread to mock Calipari for losing to St Pete, 90% of the responses would be about Bucknell and N Iowa.

Honored to be chosen as the spokesman for KU though. Even though I’m told that a forum with hundreds of regulars doesn’t speak for Kentucky. 😁

Dude, do some research before dropping nonsense.

Road/Neutral games vs P6 opponents - Purdue 24.1 FTA, Opponents 16.3 FTA
Home games vs P6 opponents - Purdue 27.2 FTA, Opponents 14 FTA

It's a difference but it's far from the massive difference you suggest. And prior to the NW game, it was Purdue 23.4 FTA, Opponents 15.2 FTA, which is almost identical to our road/neutral splits.

46-8....NW only shot 6 more threes.

Purdue only shot 9 more free throws the first time they played in Evanston.

Purdue only shot 19 fts against FDU...and you all chalk it up to FDU triple teaming Edey and not fouling him.

You guys can keep living in fantasy land. Purdue was gifted a win. It is what it is. Everybody else back on planet Earth will once again watch as Purdue doesn't get BS call after BS call in the tournament, and flames out again.

In fact, it would be hysterical if they lost being outshot from the FT line 40-10...would be fantastic. And I am sure you would be perfectly fine with that.

You don't understand statistics, do you? Perhaps some other UK fans could interject and help you out.

We’ve proven you wrong multiple times. The evidence is clear that in the two games, NW got more home cooking if you factor in how many free throws they normally take versus how many they give up. You choose to ignore the stats.

I think there are other reasons Purdue does not do well in the NCAAT, similar to UT. Until those two teams prove otherwise I don't think anyone is really worried about them.

Curious what you think the other reasons are actually. I don’t disagree that we’ve struggled just curious why you think that is.

Oh, I don't have a clue. I just think there has to be something with the frequency it has happened. They are well coached, talented, seem pretty clutch, and seem to play well together. I love their team. I don't watch them and think they are a team that should be prime for an upset. With Edey you would think they would be upset proof at least to an extent. I don't get it with them.

With UT it is Barnes IMO. So is there something with Painter? IDK. He is clearly a very good coach.

“It’s home cooking because I say it is. I don’t care if the data says otherwise!”

Purdue has no more “home cooking“ than any other top 25 team. Now, if you want to acknowledge Mackey as a premier venue like the national media does, I’ll agree that it gives Purdue an advantage.

Honestly, I think the biggest reason Purdue has struggled vs its seed in the tournament is Purdue outperforms its talent in the regular season and it catches up to them in a one and done tourney.

Even this year, Purdue only starts one top 100 recruit.

Yeah those are all fair points. I think the last several years have hurt Painter/Purdue’s reputation with the losses to double digit seeds. Before the last 3 losses, Purdue didn’t get upset often in Painter’s tenure so there’s some recency bias for sure. And I truly believe the opinion of Painter/Purdue would be drastically different if that UVA miracle didn’t happen and we made the F4 in 2019. But we definitely need to break through.

There have been studies that showed that refs are influenced by crowds. Mackey’s one of the loudest arenas out there, so it stands to reason that Purdue would get as much or more home cooking as most.

Unlike some, I’m not going to act like this is something unique to that arena or those refs. But if KU gets a crucial call in Allen tomorrow (which will be electric), I fully expect to see a slew of “only in Phog!!!” posts. 😆

Could be. While I think they look like a good team when I watch them this year without Edey they would be pretty average I think. So they could outperform their talent in the regular season. I'm not sure that would explain the losses to some of the lower seeds but it's a fair point. I mean, the tournament is wacky anyway. It takes some luck and good matchups so it could just be crappy fortune as well.

That’s a pretty silly thing to say. I think anyone that faces Purdue in the tourney this year will be worried.

I think in theory they should have a great shot to win it all. They just always seem to lose to some team they shouldn't.

That’s really a recent phenomena though. Painter‘s been to the tourney 14 times and 8 of the first 11, Purdue lost to a top 3 seed.

Yeah, could just be recency bias for me. Most teams outside of UNC are probably like that tbh. I only remember what happened the last few years.
