MSU vs UK

Jesus man, are you still crying about what happened on RR?
I'll buy you a beer next time I'm in AA or Ypsi or wherever your from next time I come through on my way to Fenton.
Where the hell is Ypsi?

Which is incredibly pathetic. You've got a sophomore and junior that don't even understand the basic fundamentals of basketball, yet they are playing at the highest collegiate level. I doubt it will ever click for those two.

Seems they think too much instead of reacting. Didn't really see either sulking or hanging their heads like they've done in the past.

Imagine if we would've gotten Wiseman.

Maxey played great. Enjoyed watching him play. Tough loss for MSU. I think MSU wins that game 7/10 times. Had some stupid fouls which made guys who have no business playing extended minutes play a ton. Bingham 11 minutes, Hall 7 minutes, Marble 5 in the first half. That’s crazy

Ehhh idk about that. The game felt more lop-sided to me than the score showed. Not lop-sided, but just felt like we outplayed you guys everywhere, other than rebounding. Our guards were getting to the lane pretty easily. Most of your fouls were because of a faster guard beating his man and your guys trying to recover. We were just more athletic. We usually shoot a lot of FT's because that's the type of kids Cal recruits... long, quick, athletic. They constantly attack and opposing guards usually struggle to stay in front.

I just think our roster, top to bottom, is better. Don't think we got MSU's best by any means. But, our best will most certainly be better as well. Doesn't mean we won't meet in March and you guys get the W. I don't see how one could watch that game and think MSU would take 7/10 though. I don't think they would now, or in 5 months. Both teams have a reason to be excited. Should be a fun year. Good luck the rest of the way.

I was going to respond to the "MSU wins that game 7 out of 10 times" comment, but decided to leave it be earlier.

UK led that game from stem to stern and was able to answer MSU's runs every time. Led by 13 at one point.

It's actually the other way around, UK would win that game 7 out of 10 times. UK is a matchup problem for MSU, they can contain MSU's guards with length and elite athletesism and they have enough size to negate MSU's strong front court.

Not only that, but Brooks, Juzang, Whitney, EJ and Richards are going to be sooo much better by March.

That's not even touching on where Maxey will be by March. He's a lottery pick for sure.

Everything will be okay my little raftard.

Both games last night turned out to be great. This is what the Champ Classic is all about. State or Kansas could just have easily had won. Just makes the speculation this coming season more exciting as the games unfold. We'll be #1 for awhile. Do I believe we're the #1 team in the country. Lol no. Am I damn glad to have it, hell yes
Agreed. I almost think they should delay rankings until conference play starts. Nobody is # anything the first month of the season.

I think they're pretty even, with a slight edge to us. Better players with more room to grow. Don't think either would take 7/10. That's a very good, vet team. That's why our win was so impressive to me. You can't teach energy and motivation. These young guys play with both. Hopefully they do all year, even if they don't like their draft projection or aren't getting the mins they want. Feel like we've seen that a few times over the last handful of years that's ended up being bad for chemistry.. Still think we drop a couple OOC.

Pretty sure Nick and EJ are what they are. Brooks, Whitney, and Juzang will definitely improve though. Not sure we'll ever get a lot from Khalil on O, but he's already great defensively.

Its OPPONENTS POINTS PER POSSESSION PER 100 POSSESSIONS. You are welcome my good friend.

Defensive Efficiency is opponents points per 100 possessions.

Kenpom has Adjusted Defensive Effeciency.

You seem to struggle with what the adjusted portion means.

Lmao I'm the moron and you dont even know that adjusted defensive efficiency is Points Per Possession per 100 possessions.

No, that's defensive efficiency. Adjusted defensive efficiency is Points Per 100 Possessions adjusted for opponent strength.

No it isnt lol KenPom literally separates the two. Adjusted defensive efficiency is only Points Per Possession per 100 possessions. You can go to https://kenpom.com/index.php?s=RankAdjDE
hover over Adjusted defensive efficiency and it will give a definition for what that is.

I agree with most of what you said here, I just think that if any team were to win 7 out of ten, it would be UK. It's not like UK came from behind and won on a half court heave, no, they led for most of the game and had large leads at times.

Now, having said that, if they get a healthy Langford back, that drastically changes everything. They would easily be the best team in the country, because you would have to account for another pro guard. UK was trapping Winston and gambling with bigs to contain him. If Langford is in there, you can't do that.

Not having Langford is a huge deal and yeah you're right w/ the first paragraph. I think we trailed for less than 30 seconds the whole game.

Dunno if I would give a 7/10 prediction, but I do think UK played very well last night, while MSU played sub-par. UK defense was definitely a part of that, but I doubt we see Cash (40% career 3pt shooter) miss 5+ wide open 3's again. I doubt there are many games where Henry gets 2 fouls in the first 2:30 of the game, and sits 17 straight minutes in the first half. Similar for Tillman, who missed half of the first half on some questionable calls (and is our only legit big). Those are 2 of our 3 best players, and both were limited by foul trouble within the first few minutes of the game.

UK did jump out and pull away a couple of times, but MSU grinded back each time and continued bringing it back to within a possession. It was a 2-point game with 1:27 left, before Maxey hit a 30ft dagger with Henry in his face. Props to him, because that was a big time shot.

Again, props to UK but that was a pretty bad game from MSU

Yea Langford is a huge piece of that team. Those guys will be fine. It was a hard fought game. I honestly started feeling bad for Winston because he was working so hard and playing with a lot of toughness and I know that he's back to do something big. I hope he gets drafted somewhere.

UK had some guys in foul trouble as well, it was a physical game and honestly, that's how most SEC games are called. I hate it, but it's true.
Winston definitely makes more of those threes in a typical game, but so does Quickley. He bricked a couple, but I would put him right there with Cassius for three point shooting efficiency.
But my point was, if anyone is going to win 7 out of 10, it would be UK judging by how that game went. IDK how anyone could watch that game and come away with MSU winning 7 out of 10.
Both teams are going to get tremendously better, but right now, I like where UK is at, they usually aren't this good in early November.
But again, if State gets Langford back and he's 100%, MSU is the best team in the country. You can clearly see he was badly missed last night.

Dude. Is this your first time checking out Kenpom? AdjD is absolutely adjusted for opponent strength. That is what "adjusted for opponent" in parenthesis mean.

AdjD.jpg

No lol the adjusted for opponent means for an average D1 offense not for a specific team
https://kenpom.com/blog/ratings-glossary/

From KenPom's glossary:

"The raw numbers are computed from the data contained in a box score. But then there’s the matter of adjusting for competition. The "adjusted" numbers (AdjO, AdjD as AdjT) are the results of these calculations."

The point is that strength of opponents is factored into the Adjusted Defense rating. MSU Scoring 60 points on you doesn't hurt your Adjusted Defense rating as much as BYU scoring 60 points on you would.

Exactly and that estimate is calculated by adjusting for opponent strength, not just raw box score data.
And no where does it state that its adjusted for the specific opponent strength. Its based off of an average D1 offense. It SPECIFICALLY states that.
