***Kansas @ Kentucky Gameday Thread***

Many thought, including myself, these might be the two best teams in the country to start the year. Obviously Duke and Tennessee and a few others look better to this point, but still a top 10 match up of blue bloods none the less.

I think UK takes this one after dropping three in a row to KU. Cats seem to be playing better and better each game, and KU really seems to be missing their big man.

I said we would go 2 - 1 against Duke, UNC, and Kansas this season. If I end up right, I will GLADLY take it.

Kentucky 83
Kansas 78

Thoughts on the game?
It is really anybodies guess. Kansas appears to be fading and UK has been the model of inconsistency. At the first of the year, I would have said Kansas by 20. Kansas has fallen 10 of those points with the loss of direction and their big man. Uk has improved for 10 of those points, so I call it even on a neutral floor. Uk probably gets 2 pts for Rupp.

3 of UK's last 4 opponents.... held under 60 pts. Defense now up to 11th in KenPom rankings.... not looking too inconsistent lately.

It always makes me chuckle a bit in threads like these, where fans of two tradition rich programs complain about how terrible their top 20 teams are. Because their teams are a little less great than they usually are, they act as if they're on a level with teams that won't even make the tourney.

It must be annoying to fans of other programs. I know as a KU football fan, I'd be sick to my stomach if I saw Alabama and Ohio State fans in a year where they're only top 15 range teams, complaining about how terrible they are, leading up to a matchup in the lowly Rose Bowl.

Uk has played 18 games and you are talking 3...

If KU won a national title every year, it would be a bit different.

Instead, I've watched them put a contender on the court almost every year while sealing the deal once.

But my frustration with this team has nothing to do with its record or expectations.

It's the aesthetic. They're obviously somewhat effective now and then. They've beaten several good teams and handed Tennessee their only loss (with Azubuike off the court most of the game).

But they're hard to watch. They don't move the ball well (especially hard to watch after last year). Zero chemistry. They take poor shots. Make poor decisions. And turn it over constantly.

I do like what I've seen from Agbaji lately. Nice to see a local player contributing as a freshman. Kinda sad that a 3-star recruit from KC is arguably their best athlete though.

To give up over 100 points in the first game of the season and be ranked in the Top 12 in the country in defense at this point in the season...shows nothing but consistent improvement on Defense.
UK has lost game 1, game 9 and game 13. Those losses are pretty evenly spread through the season, they did not all come in at the start. at. That means you have been inconsistent.

I remember. Stop cheating and you stay in the game longer. Simple as that.

22-9 vs the Fictitious Birds .... LOL @"Finally"
Eh, they played every year in 70s and early 80s which was KU's worst era by far. KU is 7-6 since the 3 pointer (modern era) and 8-9 in my lifetime vs UK. Kentucky is the better overall program but the 22-9 series record is misleading imo. Recently we had some tough timing too, had to play Cal's best team ('12) twice and second best team ('15) once.

Kentucky football is actually one of the best teams in the SEC historically if you ignore all the seasons we were bad.

Not surprised you missed the point entirely. Every season is different than a 15 year window for teams that have played 100+ years.

No, you missed the point. Games are played. They are won or lost. It is a horseshit argument to say "well....if you disregard the time period we weren't very good".......then you clearly don't have an argument. It's not our problem if you didn't field a good team then. Don't play if it's an issue. Or, play, and don't make excuses for your shortcomings. No, it's I who isn't surprised you missed the point entirely.

So in conclusion, 22-9, suck it long and suck it hard.

Not at all... UK fans have been through this many times. You guys got lucky in 2 games, or you would have the same record as us. You guys have peaked, and we haven't. We're getting better, the stats prove it.

Why are you so upset? With this kind of attitude I think you guys will reach the tournament for the 6th straight year. Might even win your conference.

I have two pet peeves in life. Stupidity and laziness. Your "argument" falls under the former. Your entire premise is to disregard an era statistically because Kansas wasn't up to Kansas' traditional standards. Well....so effing what. That means dick when the ball gets thrown up. You lost those games, ergo, they count.

You feel strongly about this. Kind of weird to feel that strongly about games played 35+ years ago. I don’t really care about games played before I was born.

Everyone needs something to make them feel good. If you can't be happy with the here and now, you have always got "back in GrandPa's day" in you're a UK fan.

And yet, you continue to make excuses for it. "We had a rough stretch in the 70's" "Recently we were unfortunate that we had to play some of Cal's best teams." Excuse after excuse for losing. Just own it.

It should be a good game. I think the Cats win by a handful but wouldn’t be too surprised if the Hawks pull it out.

It's Kentucky's turn to win three straight.
With Kansas' woes in recruiting this cycle, it looks to be true.

I wear a KU shirt every Saturday to work, today I wore (am wearing) black.

Incredibly unimpressed with this Kansas team.

I think too many KU fans are waving the white towel too early. While we do look to be hitting our stride here lately, inconsistency is still somewhat of an issue with this team, especially on defense.

KU has the talent and coaching to win, but I expect a close game regardless. Cats by 5
