Dude, you could have easily tweaked that weighting to get Kansas to #3.

Best team that has never won it all, Illinois
Best team that has never made a final four, BYU
Best team that has never made the tournament, St. Francis Terriers
Best team that has never been listed on the final AP Poll, Rhode Island
I’m actually kind of surprised Rhode Island has never been ranked in the final AP.

from a bball standpoint, We’re excited to have the 12th best program who actually values bball and arguably the “top new money” program in the country in Houston join the league. While OU and texas are on this list, they value bball as much as baseball. Not much. OU actually did until the Thunder came to OKC.

Oklahoma state I’m surprised wasn’t higher here than 17. Thought maybe 14/15. Ton of tradition going back to the 40’s and 50’s and 60’s with Iba. Then Eddie Sutton for decades and now Boynton doing well.

cincy and okie state actually has legit bball natties while ou and Texas do not.

Pretty interesting stuff. The more discussion there is regarding the top 5 or so, the more I realize I have a very difficult time disagreeing with any of the variations I’ve seen. Such compelling arguments, and slights, can be made for each team and their respective positions.

Rhode Island wasn’t ranked the year they beat the Pierce/Lafrentz team in the tourney?

That’s a good question. I think AP has its last poll come out before the NCAA tournament, but still surprising if they weren’t.

I was thinking that he meant the final poll of the season, but it must be the final regular season poll.

You saw Utah above Michigan and didn’t stop to rethink your weighting?

Even if you didn’t count the runner up and elite 8 years we self vacated it’s not close.

Titles:
Michigan - 1
Utah - 1

Runner up:
Michigan - 4
Utah - 1

Final Four:
Michigan - 6
Utah - 4

Elite 8:
Michigan - 15
Utah - 6

Sweet 16:
Michigan - 17
Utah - 16

I was thinking that he meant the final poll of the season, but it's probably the final regular season poll.
I think that’s one of the problems with AP. They don’t do a final poll after the tournament, so their final poll doesn’t take the postseason into consideration. I think it’s because the writers are probably ready for a vacation after 3 weeks of substantial OT covering the tournament. The coaches poll releases one final poll after the tournament but the AP doesn’t.

God, Roy pissed away some great teams.
Fans would have crucified Self if he lost in the Sweet 16 with a team as good as 97 KU. A lot of people thought it was the best KU team ever. Lost one regular season game in triple OT. Then he followed it up with a 2nd round loss as a 1.

Northern Iowa was bad, but that team wasn’t close to ‘97 KU.

Agreed. Self has now won two titles at Kansas, something Roy never could do. He certainly had many capable teams.

Self is entering the prime of his coach career. If he coaches until 70 (I think he will), he will probably get 1-3 more.

hes been equally crucified for Bradley, Buckner, and 2010 UNI with a top 10 all time KU team.

granted he followed up the first two with a 08 natty and 2010 with a trip to the natty in2012. He always fires back. I wish he didn’t have to do it so “come from behind” all the time.

Ya from 94-01 it was a dark period. He got to the natty in 91 and another final four in 93? Then followed up for 8 years with So many great teams and so many disappointments. He got over the hump thanks to your two boys from Iowa finally with back to back final fours 02/03 and played for it all in 2003.

This has just stopped doing it for me tbh. Feel like in my lifetime Kentucky is 4th. And i’m annoyed at our AD’s seeming apathy towards being the best in comparison to unc, duke and kansas.

Just feels like those guys all want it more at this point.

That's what I mean. People wanted to run Self out of town after those losses, but I don't remember Roy ever feeling heat.

I don't think 2010 KU was top 10. A lot of individual talent, but it didn't come together like KU's best teams.

2010 def top 10 in last 30 years since Roy boy took over. Ranking the last 30 years imo:

1) 1997 - Jacque, Raef and Pierce
2) 2008 - natty all time team
3) 2020 - ap#1 right there with the above 2
4)2022 - natty best culture team ever. Grit
5) 2002 - FF Hinrich, collison and golden
6) 2003 - runner up. Lose gooden add miles
7) 1991 - runner up. Adonis, Alonzo, Randall
8) 2018 - FF If didn’t play nova could have hung it
9)2010 - sherron with the twins, cole and T rob
10) 2011 - loaded top to bottom with the twins

2012 played for the natty and don’t have them on here. Just a great tourney run. 1993 final four and don’t have them on here either. Also just a great tourney run.

look at the records of the teams. 2020, 2008 and 2010 all were 3 loss seasons. That’s why 2010 has to be included.

08 is our best team. There isn’t a college basketball team they couldn’t beat. By far the most underrated team of all time (nationally).
