You're on crack if you think KU is preseason #1. I'd say Duke probably deserves it this year but I don't see how you stack up at all.

Proctor > Harris Jr.
Roach >> Arterio Morris
Mitchell > Mgbako
Filipowski >> KJ Adams
Dickinson >> Transfer 5 that Duke starts

Duke's got 5 top 20 freshmen too coming off of the bench plus a 6th year senior in Ryan Young. KU just has Timberlake and Udeh.

You think a rising senior who's never averaged 10 points a game is going to be better than a rising soph who most mock drafts have as a lottery pick and lock 1st rounder next year?

Proctor locked up most of the guards he faced in the last month of the season. Dude is going to terrorize college basketball next year.

First off all Proctor will play the 2. And everyone knows Dejuan is better than Roach . Proctor has proven nothing. Mock drafts are about who they will be 5 years from now. You're banking on a 18 year old. whew

Morris will not start over Timberlake IMO---not even close

Timberlake put up numbers at TOWSON but slow down man. Morris was the #1 ranked PG in 2022 class a mcds aa. He played behind 5 year marcus carr. I am sure timberlake can hit some shots next year, but get real man.

I think both will start.

Harris
Morris
Timberlake
Mgbako
Dickinson

KJ
Jackson
Udeh
Marcus Adams

I might be more excited to watch Morris than anyone. He’s barely even scratched the surface of his potential.

Goodman and Torvik both have them at #1 already. Not saying they’re right or wrong. I don’t think there is a “right” answer. There are several in the mix and more decisions coming.

But it’s pretty obvious that you haven’t followed the players on the roster closely.

I look forward to the ensuing Duke-Kansas passing matches that will ensue this season.

Hopefully, it leads all of you including your programs to tumble, in the midst of your arguing, off a steep f***ing cliff to your impending doom, and the rest of the college sports world will hold a celebration of freedom at your wake......... :D :D:D:D

Duke is legit but bignish or whatever doesn’t know what is about to hit him. This Kansas team will be elite next year

I'm fine with this top 10. Doesn't bother me. I don't completely agree with it, but I don't think it's unreasonable.

I'd definitely have FAU in my top 10, as they return all 5 starters. Dusty May is back, as well. I suspect they'll be in the AP Preseason Top 10, and deservedly so.

I'd probably have Houston in there, too. Jamal Shead and J'Wan Roberts return - and they bring in two big-time scorers in LJ Cryer and Damian Dunn. KU will be the favorite to win the Big 12, but I'd say Houston is their biggest threat.

I forgot about fau. Did they switch conferences? I think they play in a harder league this year. I think it’ll be harder with a bigger target on their back. I think this years top teams are much more loaded then last year. If UK gets Reeves and Oscar back then the champs classic may have 4 of the top 6 teams pre season in it (marq and UConn aside)

This thread is cheeks

Kansas doesn't even have MM (yet)
Hilarious using draft projections
Udeh and Timberlake being the only KU bench help while listing Duke's 5* a5s sitters and some non-starting 6th year
⚰️⚰️

Kansas still needs a wing, imo

I don't have them #1, but I can see scenarios where they could be seen as the top team (McCullar returns..).

What I do feel confident about is Kansas has Bill back. While many of my fellow Jayhawk fans slobbed knob last cycle, I knew that team was ultimately limited. This roster already feels better, and they tell us we might not be done yet.

People always rank teams strictly based on roster, as if all coaches have equal impact.

But even just focusing on the roster, this KU team is going to be pretty loaded (assuming Mgbako or another solid player is added). I'd rank that roster ahead of the NC team and the team that was the prohibitive favorite in the Covid year.

MSU folk gonna be disappointed with Booker. Highly overrated. Worked three of his games this year, and we was, "ok". Lot of raw talent, do doubt. But he's not an impact player as a frosh.

Where would you have the Hogs if they pick up Holland and Nelson?

Lots of crystal balls for Holland to Hogs.

Here’s a good example of why you need to do a little research on a team’s roster before declaring a limited ceiling. Marcus Adams just dropped 44 at a high school AA game that included some of the top recruits in the country. Yet most are treating him like a non-factor.

The final score was 157-154....lol. That's essentially like putting up 44 during shootaround.

He’s been consistently killing it lately against pretty solid competition. The point isn’t that he’s the next Lebron, it’s that people like bignish don’t know much about the roster. He didn’t even list him as a bench player, yet he has a chance to play a lot of minutes.

I like the way he utilizes his size and seems to be fairly athletic.

With UK ranked 30, I wonder how many teams would take it hard losing to them this season?

"we lost to a team ranked 30th preseason"

UK plays KU in the Champions Classic to kick off the season.

UK has nothing to lose, they're ranked 30th.

Early avatar bets? I don't want to do one with the op b/c he said he was leaving and I don't trust he'll stick around with the avatar. He might be smooth as butter. 1 week and we won't lose by more than 5 points.

Any takers? Incl. OP (can't flake out and not post).

As you can tell this is a changing list. So it could change and will pending who Cal fills out the roster with. Once rosters are set I will take a look at this bet.

Where can they max on your list?
If Big O and Reeves returned with 1 transfer to eat up minutes on the wing I would have had them top 5

Look at it this way. Take out tourney results which is always wonky af.

What would you rather have

13-14 Kentucky 8 seed 10 losses per tourney (parenthesis have rivals HS rank)

FR Dakari Johnson (9)

FR Julius Randle (2)

FR James Young (11)

FR Aaron Harrison (7)

FR Andrew Harrison (5)

Bench

SO Alex Poythress (8)
SO Willy Cauley-Stein (40)
FR Marcus Lee (19)

23-24 Kentucky

SO Ugonna Kingsley (37)

FR Aaron Bradshaw (2)

FR Edwards (3)

FR Robert Dillingham (15)

FR Dejuan Wagner (6)

Bench

FR Reed Shepherd (28)
SO Adou Theiro (3 star)

I didn't include Reeves as everyone says he will transfer

This is how I would rank these prospects based on hype and reviews of them at the time of HS senior

1. Julius Randle
2. Andrew Harrison
3. Aaron Bradshaw
4. Justin Edwards
5. Aaron Harrison
6. DJ Wagner
7. James Young
8. Robert Dillingham
9. Alex Poythress
10. Dakari Johnson
11. Marcus Lee
12. Reed Shepherd
13. WCS
14. Ugonna Kingsley
15. Adou Theiro

Subjective, but if experts weighed in I bet I am 90% correct on that list.

So a team with arguably better roster, better recruiting class, and better depth, lost 10 games and were a 8 seed.

You tell me, should UK be in the top 25 today or not?

It's hard to rank teams in the portal era. There are at least a dozen rosters that look pretty damn solid on paper.

Xavier Booker is all potential and 0 production right now. He is very overrated and will be a non-factor this year.
Agree, 100%. Worked few of his HS games----Not impressed. MOF, I didnt even feel he was the best player in his team. I like the kid whos going to Purdue for football---I felt he was better. Booker seemed disinterested---and shied awaay from contact; he was "bullied" by Jeffersonville's 6'9" soph.

Maybe Izzo works his magic?

So Bama not in top 34? Good thing is we actually get to play a bunch of those top teams.
I know Nate Oats had all 3 assistant coaches leave the program for head coaching jobs, but has just finalized the replacements, and imo was a big upgrade. They will finish the year ranked.
