Tennessee coach Rick Barnes makes 3.25 mil/yr and that is a bargain. He was COY this year and SEC COY last year. He even got in trouble with the NCAA for using his own money to up his asst coaches salaries.

How about your school? Is he money well spent or is he robbing y'all?

Our coach is robbing us and laughing to the bank. He's making $8.89 million/year and failing to take generational talent to the Final 4.

Damn your whole tone changed in a hurry. Went from giddy and confident to this. Feels bad man.

You're being a bitch about this. How was he supposed to coach Jones into making his shots? How was he supposed to coach Reddish into living up the the hype around him? How was he supposed to coach Barrett into making his FTs? Duke lost to MSU in. Game that they could have easily won, just didn't make enough plays at the end.

Questioning his recruiting tactics is fair. But to whine like a bitch because he supposedly wasted generational talent is pretty lame.

I bet that is his base and is paid via nike and other crazy perks. He is pulling in 8-10

His base is actually somewhere around $500,000 (changed from $400,000. Still underpaid in my opinion). He’s reportedly making around $2 million right now, but if he stays through his contract he could be making over $5 million with everything. Regardless of how valid we think the $2 million number is it’s going to be way under 8-10 even with Nike. Whenever a story comes out on coaches payment he’s generally on the low end.

Crazy--he has had the best 15 yr run of any coach right now hasn't he?

Williams is the 7th highest paid coach.

That list is already flawed as we know K has endorsement and media deals. His entire pay is not just from the school.

Same for most people on that list. It does a good job at giving you a general idea of the top.

I'm comfortable with Cal's salary, but he's done a pretty poor job of forming a coaching staff. Not sure wtf Barbee and Justus are doing. Ultimately, I'm disappointed with the ROI up to this point.

I'm glad that Duke fans now have to put up with this shitty argument from within. People love to confuse "talent" (i.e. athletic potential) with college results, but they ignore the benefits of experience and fit. And while there is a loose correlation between current production and future production, that does not make Cal and K bad coaches.

And I agree it's completely fair to question their recruiting methods, but both programs have been hit with some issues that were unlikely to happen or just flat-out unforeseeable (UK transfers and early departures like Matthews and SGA, for example).

Thanks for posting Incognito. I think you're the only UK fan to do so.

Schools piss away more than any coach’s pay in non value add admin salaries and grant allowances every year.

Also, just looking at gross comp doesn’t even consider the value that coach may add to the sale of the media rights, merchandise licensing, and donor support.

In short, Calipari is worth every penny.

I know, but according to chart, Roy's marketing deals are included, although camps are not.

Just saying that I wouldn't read too much into this chart as it isn't accurate.

Glad Roy got paid more in 2019 than 2018. If you click on the coaches name in your link it has it broken out by year. He apparently made $2.1 million in 2018 then nearly $4 in 2019. All prior years seemed to hover the $2 million mark. Either way, he’s been (relatively) underpaid for a while. Glad that they’ve stepped it up.

I think Matt Painter is due a bump. He's at $2.8MM currently, outside the top 20 but has coached much higher than that the last few years. We are one of only 4 schools to appear in the last 3 Sweet 16's (with Gonzaga, UK and Michigan) and came within a tenth of a second of reaching the Final Four. He's a tip-in by Keita Bates-Diop last year away from having won the last three Big Ten championships.

Assuming Carsen leaves, we should see a step back but 6 of the 9 guys in our rotation this year were underclassmen.

Mark Few looks like a bargain. Will someone try to snatch him up?

Cal sucks. He has only been to 7 Elite Eights in 10 years.

He was supposed to be in 10 final fours.

Far Cal! jumpingsmile

Last 10 years. 4 final fours...... 1 title...... 7 elite eights ....... 30 wins a season average. dozens of NBA or professional players that donate money back to UK ........... Yeah Cal's worth the 9 million a year.

Cal is always an easy target b/c of the talent that passes through Kentucky. But there isn't a fanbase in the country that wouldn't be happy with those returns every decade.
