I agree with this....and i love me some snu and have a lot of common interests.

Bert is a different breed, but he takes it as much as he gives it. He is a tamer version of grand torino

I am certain that thedude is a good father and I am sure that he presents himself better in person than he does here. I am also certain about these things with Bert. Hell, I believe that I present myself better in person than I do here. But if we're going to call bert an asshole, let's go ahead and call thedude an asshole too. And we can all call me an asshole while we're at it.

Fact is, an anonymous internet message board might not be the best way to judge character. You can definitely form a general opinion based on a person's comments online, but more in a vague way than concrete.

I owe @Dattier apologies for some of the things I have said to him in the past, since I am bringing it up. But I can't guarantee that I won't be offensive in the future. Sometimes it is like Tourettes. Shit! Cock! Balls!

Totally agree man. I’m not immune to being a dick on here either. I’m sure we all have been at some point. Like you said, comes with the territory of being anonymous on an internet message board. I’m probably worse than most people on here, honestly.

But I have no doubt if we were to get together in person and have a few cold ones, it would be one hell of a fun time. I like all of you all, regardless of how I post sometimes. This is my rivals family, as weird as it sounds. I feel more comfortable talking with you all than I do some of my own friends in real life.

I think you are usually pretty restrained. It was the one of the things I noticed about you as a UK fan. Some people are way bigger assholes than other people.

Agreed. I’ve been an asshole to many on here. Datt is a good example of someone who I was an ass to regularly. I’ve made peace with him and try to be civil as much as I can even though we disagree on most everything. TheDude1 is a different story. He very well may be different in real life. I’ll take your word for it. But I don’t believe he is someone here that I’ll ever be cordial to based on how he presents himself and how he treats others specifically those who disagree.

I’m sorry if I was offensive towards Bert; thankfully he doesn’t know, and nor would he care. I would hope that, if he didn’t have me on ignore, he would recognize a dumb throwaway line meant to get a reaction for what it was.

And I am literally ALWAYS up for burying hatchets. I think I’ve made that clear here in the past. I love debate, but I hate conflict, even if I get dragged into it here sometimes; it is cheap, it undermines real discussion, and frankly it’s bad for the soul.

But in this case, I was using it largely correctly... there is almost no situation in which I am not ready to say "Shit, this was dumb, let's knock it off." If I thought SNU had any interest in burying the hatchet, I'd be all for it... I find that conflict is just shitty.

I am an assholeSmokinSmile, granted; however, I will not take grief from anyone, especially condescending assholes. I still don't know what thedude said because I am not going to read his shit, so I really don’t know in what context your post was made.

I use my real name and real town. My 'real town' is so small I am really easy to find. Plus, I was a Commissioner for 6 years and Mayor for 4 so everyone in town knows where I live. So I am not anonymous.

On the character matter folks, I feel that I am of the best character. I will put my character up against anyone. Morally, legally and ethically I walk the straight and narrow. On my ability to take heat; I doubt that any on this board have faced heat more than me (with the exception of @IUfanBorden when he made a bad call against Kentuckyjumpingsmile) and never once did I yell or lose it even though I have had the police remove some folks from meetings, I did it in soft tones.

On some of the matters discussed in this thread about import/export tariffs, economic matters etc., I happened to have been considered quite good in that field. My corporation put great trust in my judgement and they paid me well for my abilities. I witnessed what NAFTA did to my customers in manufacturing and saw my loads go down. Then afterward, I was on the executive board of our local ADD where twenty years later we were still spending millions retraining the people who lost their jobs because of NAFTA. It continues to this day. Yet we hear on the news that NAFTA did not hurt the US and that it was fair. BULLSHIT!


I hope that you folks understand that I just blow up when some sociology teacher tells me I don’t know shit from apple butter on something that I not only studied, but lived and performed in. Not only did I do the talk, I did the walk. I experienced the ups and lived through the downs and many were made by the government. It would be like me telling an engineer that the bridge he just built will fall down next Tuesday. He would laugh at my stupidity and I do the same.

It seems odd to me that he keeps returning to the "I have expertise" well and ducking a simple question. At this point I assume he does not have a source, and that the publicly available information I posted earlier, including from the German government, is correct. Because 90% VAT is a facially ridiculous number, I would expect someone with his alleged expertise to be skeptical upon seeing it and do research before repeating it (or making it up in the first place). So when I see him yet again extol his expertise, it reminded me that he never gave a source on previous asks.

I don't know if I am the sociology teacher there (given that I am not a sociology teacher), but I've repeatedly asked Bert for information before, about chemistry and coal and several other things in which I have no meaningful education or experience... and I've always been okay with what he has said. Same with econ and SNU... for a while while we were still in communication I said, a number of times, that I just don't have any sort of meaningful enough econ background to discuss it with him, and I've asked for his opinion and for information. I'm totally fine with not knowing stuff, and being honest when I don't.

If we discuss guns or cars or guns or the business of sports or politics or race or teaching or religion or writing, I know enough to be able to put together a meaningful point. But there are a number of fields... econ, law, medicine, some of the sciences... where I do not, and I am just fine with that. And if a person really reflects honestly on what I have posted here over the years, you'll see that is the case.
