I still like the days of amateurism. When getting a scholarship was a big deal. The book The McDonaldization of Society discusses how instant gratification is the norm across society now, making everything bland with sameness. Nothing is “Special” anymore. And that was before everyone could become “TikTok famous”. Now everybody gets and expects “fame” far easier than before, which is more of a standard . . . which comes with a ridiculous amount of entitlement.
