False. That was the '97 team. Just watched the Arizona/Kentucky title game, and the Iowa/Kentucky game was mentioned in the recap of how both teams advanced.

I don't think the #21-ranked 99 team that finished 9-7 in conference was a shoe-in for the elite 8 either.
And for some reason I doubt the #9 seed that lost to Duke in the second round in 92 would have reached the elite 8. Or the 9 seed that did the same in the previous year.

When I think of a final four caliber team, I usually imagine a 7 seed that lost 6 of its last 8 games.
It's total BS that the committee expected Iowa to play some tough teams in the tournament!
Well, we all wear homer tinted glasses at times. And, just my opinion. but for that one game I did not see it. In that game Iowa was over-matched significantly--skill and toughness. Yes, nova beat up Miami right after that and Oklahoma in the FF, but obviously the games against Kansas and UNC were at another level.
Jordan may have been born in Brooklyn, but he's a North Carolina native. His family moved to Wilmington before his first birthday.
