Texas Tech is in a talent rich state without a dominant basketball program.

A good portion of Tech's players are from Texas.

So...I wouldn't say all programs have the built in advantages of Texas Tech.

Virginia isn’t really a traditional power either. They had the Ralph Sampson era and now the Bennett years but not a pretty middle of the road history

Ironically, while the Sampson years were their heyday, the year after he graduated is their last FF, in '84.

And they didn't have a stellar season that year either. IIRC, they had a losing ACC record.

True, but they would be more likely to win a NC, then Texas Tech, most years. Plus where they are located is a basketball hot bed.

Techs PG is from Italy and they have several key grad transfers.
