If Texas Tech wins tonight, will it give you hope your program can too?

For me, if TT can win it tonight, I feel like the possibility is there for Iowa. Will it happen at Iowa, probably not but at least I feel like it can.

TT is a non traditional basketball program that is showing the country all it takes is the right coach and good chemistry.

Virginia isn’t really a traditional power either. They had the Ralph Sampson era and now the Bennett years but not a pretty middle of the road history

First you'll need to get your AD to quit extending that Mad Fran.

Interesting article that somewhat pertains to this topic:

https://www.theringer.com/march-mad...ch-national-championship-game-matchup-preview

I especially like the last paragraph. Goes along with what I was trying to articulate in another thread (but he says it much better):

"Monday night probably won’t usher in a ratings bonanza or be a high-scoring thriller, but it represents what I love most about this sport—the opportunity for strange teams from strange places to try strange things in the hopes of achieving greatness. It’s so much more interesting to see basketball experiments succeed (or fail) than it is to watch the same elite programs rinse and repeat with fresh crops of five-star athletes. College basketball is a rich and nonsensical tapestry filled with attempts to accomplish what Virginia and Texas Tech have pulled off, but the most fascinating threads are generally cut short before the sport’s biggest stage. Only one team will get to cut down the nets on Monday, but it will be a victory for every program that has ever tried to win by getting weird."

Texas Tech is in a talent rich state without a dominant basketball program.

A good portion of Tech's players are from Texas.

So...I wouldn't say all programs have the built in advantages of Texas Tech.

Lots of talent close to Iowa. And good talent in Iowa. We just need some guys from Chi Town to come here.

Thanks Bruce Pearl.

Either way, it's about a non traditional power making a run. Not Iowa.

It is the same thing with Florida.

Florida did it because of the amount of talent close by.

Texas Tech is taking advantage of what the more prominent universities in Texas couldn't.

Nope. Totally disagree. They did it because the had an NBA level coach.

This isn't football. There is a shit ton of basketball talent in the Midwest.

In fact FL's best two players that year were from NY and Michigan.

For sure 2 of the best 5 players in the tournament are from Texas

Culver and Carsen Edwards
Kentucky's best player grew up in Dallas in PJ Washington.

The last few years is a culmination of what started in the 90's in Texas.

They were both Michael Jordan compared to what I saw from Iowa this year.

3-0 vs KU. RollLaugh

Iowa st owns you.

And UNI beat your best team.

You better shift gears and try to find another state. Lol. We own you, hayseed.

None of these guys went to Tech, so again your point is not making a lot of sense.

TT had a couple 3 star guys, a couple 2 star guys and a guy with no stars. And a couple international players. They aren't feasting off of kids from Texas.

3-0 since....? Either way, nice sample size you have there.

If winning 30% of head to head games equals ownage, then yes, Iowa St owns KU. Math isn't a strong suit for people who specialize in bailing hay, is it?

We stick it in you whenever we want, dust bowl.. RollLaugh

Jarrett Culver went to Tech and he is from Lubbock...

Culver had offers from all the Power Conference schools in Texas.
Very few players in Texas can say that. It was well known Culver was an elite player in Texas.

Good player. That is 1 guy. And a 3 star recruit. He wasn't some 5 star.

Some 5 star players don't get offers from all the power conference schools in Texas...
That is how good Culver was and how he could fit any system.
Maybe the national recruiting experts didn't see him because he wasn't from Houston or Dallas but most knew Culver was a great player.

I get what you are saying and you are not getting what I am saying.

TT has done this in the most untraditional manner.

Yes Texas has BB talent, just like pretty much everywhere else in the country.

But name me a team that has ever done what TT is trying to accomplish using player development, defense, and a mix bag of recruits.

Butler is the only team I can think of that compares.

Exactly. The scoreboard from every school in the state allows me to be. RollLaugh

Now beat it Tumbleweed.

Good thing you claim more than just Iowa. Oh wait....you could combine the history of every team in the state and it would still pale in comparison.RollLaughRollLaugh

If Iowa ever won a national title I'm pretty sure I'd never post here again. They're already very full of themselves (for absolutely no reason), couldn't imagine what they'd be like if their team actually experienced success.

Tubby Smith was there before Beard and recruited some great players.
Tech was actually a Final 4 team last year but played Villanova in the Regional Final
Truthfully Tech gave Villanova their toughest game.
That was with Kennan Evans from Richardson TX.

And you that triggered, that you are arguing with an Iowa fan? You jump in, say something stupid and then get smacked, but can't get out because you are trying to save face. Blahahaha. You fvcking loser.

A simple "uncle" would've sufficed.

Can I offer you a tissue?

And I get that. They were building up for this season and moment. But it's not like they are doing it off the elite Texas players. If they win tonight though, they sure as hell will be. They will have their pick of the litter in Texas.

It takes time.
Texas still produces more NBA players.
Most of these players care about the NBA and Texas has the fourth highest salary for former players.
