I hope K gracefully enters retirement and we can snatch Beard up ASAP. He'd made the Elite 8 and a Final 4 with just 2 lottery picks in Zhaire Smith and Culver on his roster. Imagine what he'd do with 8 McDonald's All Americans on his roster each year!!
Texas Tech grad here....I don’t get the animosity from some of our fans and other fans ITT.
Facts...
1) yes, we are a newb to this level of success in MBB
2) Beard is a “west TX guy” and outside of the Top 4-5 blue bloods, I don’t believe he leaves based on some of what I know (as well as many other factors already laid out ITT). However, things change and are fluid all the time and stranger things have happened.
3) we have three 4 star recruits and a several Top 100 guys in this latest class. He is getting better players every year and after this years run next years class will be even better IMO
4) I like KU and I like Bill Self. I think he’s there for many years to come.
5) I am personally enjoying the ride the last couple of seasons and hope we can put it all together Saturday against a tough MSU team.
6) next season is never a guarantee.
As Coach Beard always says, it’s about enjoying the ride, not just the destination!!!!

Yeah i'm not trying to down tech at all its just life in big time college basketball. If self leaves KU and if KU offers Beard he'll go, Self having to leave KU doesn't have the highest probability and KU offering and paying the buyout doesnt either, but if he offers, he'll most likely go. Same with a few other schools. No if Tech decides to put their eggs in the Beard basket and start dumping money into their program he could stay no matter what but its more than just upping his salary. I'll finish by saying again I hope he stays at Tech.
I agree with you on all points except I don’t think Beard leaves for another B12 program including KU. UNC, Duke or even Kentucky, I would say the chances jump up much higher he jumps. Not a slight at KU at all as they are a blue blood, I just know Beard and just don’t see him going someplace else in conference (or to UT. He only has a piece of paper from there and zero relationships anymore and if you know Beard he is ALL about relationships, not $). I’ll give you an example, our baseball coach, Tim tadlock had just taken us to our 2nd CWS a few years ago, we gave him a big raise, UT came calling and offered him their HC position and he turned it down flat. They offered significantly more $ then he was making. Tadlock and Beard are cut from the same cloth. They are rare, but they actually want to be where they are.
Also Beard and his entire staff are in for massive raises and contracts after this season and has already been noted our MBB facilities/resources will be second to none in the B12 in the next year.
