Duke cancelling away games already

37% of Americans are obese.

Y'all think that's right? Maybe so.

We skipped a holiday party on like Dec 19, at which EVERYONE got covid, and then a basketball practice for my son on like Dec 23, at which EVERYONE got covid. If we had done either, we would have had to skip Christmas with my mom. Real thankful for that.

And are you sure you haven't had it? Plenty of people have it and don't have symptoms... have you done, like, an antibody test? You could be one of the lucky ones to get it and not have any symptoms?
I have to do a PCR test tomorrow so I can go back to work, never done antibodies test. The good news is everyone that has it has very mild symptoms. We actually cancelled our family Christmas because my brother in law had covid, rescheduled for 1/2 and then my wife gave it to everyone in the family anyway.

Gotta be honest, if any combination of UK's starting 5 is out with covid, I'd rather not play true road games.
Something tells me the selection committee won't care as much as they should when looking at the losses you sustained while guys were out and you can go on a heck of a losing streak while covid is running rampant through your program.

I don't know. I think it would be pretty cool to see how the team reacts and performs with different guys playing. Could be entertaining.

As for the Covid, I wasn't there for this particular get together but for Christmas my family on my mom's side had a guy there who had it and had about 40 people together eating in the same room (a decent size room but still) and hardly anyone else got it. Wonder if it was Delta or a different variant.

I agree that people need to take care of themselves better for sure. There is no excuse for just sitting around an d letting yourself go.

Interesting! Yeah, who knows man, you may have had it and just fought it off without anyone knowing... I mean, I don't know if this has changed, but in the first half of this thing weren't they saying at least half of people don't exhibit symptoms? That's the best case... get it so you get the antibodies, but no impact!:)

Glad everyone is well.

Black princess Leia for GT is coughing all over the place. Get that man a covid test.

One of the ugliest games I've ever watched. Covid hangover was real.

So Duke is restricting in-person classes until Jan 18th but they're gonna pile 9K people into CIS for a basketball game? Makes sense. 😆

IIRC, everyone in Cameron is required to wear masks, and also show proof of vaccination. If you don't have proof, they have a testing site right at the arena and you have to get tested and clear before going in the building. I'd wager that is a more cautious approach than most places?

As for why K wasn't wearing a mask... my only guess is that literally everyone else on the team had it, so they are not going to be contagious, so it is safe to be around them? I suspect that K is probably pretty careful, at his age, and consults pretty regularly with good medical personnel?

I just love Pastner and his stupid face shield. He lifts it up when he talks. Just like they lower their masks when they talk. A whole lot of dumb in this country.

Yeah, when he was wearing a mask K would pull it down to yell loudly. Like... if you are wearing a mask, then pulling it down at the moment you are expelling breath/droplets at the highest velocity... it sort of defeats the purpose. Sooooo....?

But I guess we all do things that are sometimes dumb. I'm pretty sure I pulled my mask down a few times coaching my son's basketball team because they couldn't hear me mid game:)

They let you coach youth basketball?

I got 4 scheduled at CVS for friday for travel visas. Of course my two year old has an out of nowhere cough last night that sounded like an asian honda accord.

IDK man, I've seen UK look bad enough all last year and 2 games this year, I don't need to see anymore of that to be entertained.

BTW, you all might enjoy this... sort of on the topic of covid, which was the thread topic...

Had a kid come into school all this week. Today, he appears on virtual. The nurse calls me and says that he actually tested positive for COVID on Tuesday AM, and they send him into school on Tuesday and Wednesday anyway.

Like... wtf? Who does that?

And it is a family I really like and respect... I've had all four of their kids!

People are weird.

NCAA updated Covid guidelines.

If a college basketball player tests positive for COVID-19, they will only have to quarantine for five days if they are asymptomatic or their symptoms are improving, according to the NCAA.

The organization just released new guidance for winter sports, including college basketball, as the Omicron variant sweeps the nation. It includes a new definition of “fully vaccinated.” Tier 1 individuals (players, coaches, trainers, officials, etc.) are now considered fully vaccinated if they are:

  • Within two months of having completed the primary series of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine (one dose).
  • Within five months of having completed the primary series of the mRNA Pfizer vaccine, or within six months of having completed the primary series of the mRNA Moderna vaccine (two doses for both).
  • Who have received a booster vaccine if they are beyond two months of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine or beyond five or six months of the mRNA Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, respectively.
The NCAA will also consider individuals who have tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 90 days the equivalent of “fully vaccinated.”

After five days, those who have tested positive for COVID-19 and have no or improving symptoms can leave isolation but the NCAA recommends wearing masks around others for an additional five days. If individuals test negative, they can participate in athletic activities without a mask during days six through ten.

The new guidance also includes updated protocols for close contacts. Essentially, if you’re not fully vaccinated and someone close to you tests positive, the NCAA says stay home for five days and wear a mask around others for five days after that. Tier 1 individuals that are fully vaccinated (or recently infected) do not need to quarantine if a person close to them tests positive, but should wear a mask around others for ten days while not actively training. Testing on day five is encouraged.
