Rick Barnes, Tennessee. It was just 15 months ago that the Volunteers were picked to finish 13th in the 2017-18 SEC. Now Barnes' team is the league co-defending champion who just, by the way, looks like it might win the 2019 national title. An SEC team is making us say "Kentucky who?" Is this COY thing even up for debate?

If the season ended right now I’m almost 100% sure John Belein would win the award.

They usually give these awards to a coach who has a record that stands out compared to the other top teams or to a coach who exceeded pre-season expectations. Right now Belein is both of those things.

I agree that Bennett and Barnes are other frontrunners.

Coach K is probably never going to win it again unless he has a perfect season.

although I agree that Barnes has been great and should be up there, I don't agree with your logic at all. Where they were ranked pre-season before LAST season has no bearing on the job he has done this season. Fact is they were pre-season top 5-10 THIS season so their success this year is no surprise at all. Still a great job though.

That said my vote goes to Bennet. How UVA has rebounded from the adversity of last season's epic fail is far more impressive than how Tennessee has managed from being overlooked 2 years ago.

Belein in my opinion- they lost 3 of their top 4 scorers from last season, and they don't even miss a beat this season...

Yep, he's right up there for sure. Any of the 3 B's could win it and deserve it.

Tony Bennett, John Belein, and Chris Beard would be my 3 in the conversation. All three have done an incredible job so far.

Barnes has done a good job at UT. I imagine it’s going to keep getting better for you guys with those sweet new facilities.

No love for patrick Ewing? He has Mac mcclung. You know how hard it is to get a generalization player to swallow his pride and play with a team?

If Roy gets two years out of Nassir can we retroactively give it to him? Asking for a (pissed off) friend.
Amazing he was projected to be the number 3 pick prior to this season. Is he still in the first round?

His draft stock won’t change much IMO. The kid is still a high end lottery pick.
Even after playing UNC,I only know the kids name from McD's game and how he not getting much playing time.

I loved watching him show out at the MdD's game and was excited to see him play in college, but....it's like he's fell off the map.

Maybe I should pay more attention.

Quentin Grimes stock has fallen quite a bit, right? I think he was predicted to be a lottery pick before the season but now see he’s a late first round pick in mock drafts for the 2020 draft.

Almost lost to Bama at home yesterday. Too early to be crowning the Vols National Champions.

He may not be NCOY, but at this early stage I gotta think Jeff Capel might be a strong candidate for ACC COY... Rick Barnes on the national stage. Maybe Chris Beard, if TTU can finally dethrone Kansas.

Kermit Davis has also done a great job this year.

Davis is a great coach. Really good hire for them.

Yeah, outside of the UNC game Pitt has been more competitive than many thought they would be.

Haha. I don't think any of the blueblood coaches really have an argument this year so far. Some years they do and don't get credit. This year they have all done ok, none just awful, but nothing spectacular relative to expectation.
