Cal as recruiting king vs K as recruiting king

This is all well and good, but my point stands. It was Duke’s to win. And while I’m not a douchebag who reverts to past threads, I said at the beginning of the year if Coach K doesn’t get it done handpicking his recruits, it’s a choke job. I stand by my comments. Duke let one slip away, or choked, whichever expression you prefer.
If you're okay with ignoring history and logic, I am okay with it.

Was it this bad with Kentucky in 2015? Just curious.
Duke is my concern as a Carolina fan. I friggin love that Roy has 3 titles to K’s 2 since going home. So, to answer your question, no. But, as stated I probably just didn’t care as much because it wasn’t Duke. I do remember celebrating the loss in a St. Louis casino though. Good times.

That is such complete and utter bullshit, invented to make you feel better.

We won a few games in the tournament by a bucket. Losing by a bucket with a team where our third best player never really showed up, our bench never really showed up... it sucked, because it was a very open year, but come on now, it was nothing like UK 2015. There might not be a loss in history by ANY team as bad as that one... and the fact that Duke then went on to win the title was just the final nail in the coffin.
People forget UK was pretty much beat by Notre Dame and I think the game before it and skated by.

Like Duke was beat by UCF. However, I was just waiting for them to fall and destroy hopes, dreams, hype, and brackets.

..and quite a few games before them. The 'Will to win" was outstanding with that group.

We got lucky against Georgia. They had us down 9 with like 4 or 5 minutes to go and then a bunch of 75-80% free throw shooters started missing them. Georgia was the one game that year that I felt we probably shouldn’t have won. The other team legitimately just choked.

Cal 2010-2014

152-37 overall .804 winning %
18-3 Tourney record. 1 title 3 final fours
1 NIT

K 2015-2019
149-38 .797 winning %
15-4 tourney record. 1 title 1 final four
No real black eyes. Worse season was probably 2017

Fairly even imo.

As a Uk fan feels like we should have finished the job one more time at least but also feels good to see how well our guy has held his own against the goat.

Duke fans your thoughts?
What stands out the most to me is Coach K's is current. Calipari's isn't.

It’s almost like Kentucky fans forget they had 2 platoons in 2015 full of Burger boys. Yet this Duke team was the most talented team in history? Lol wat

It won't be long until Mack is on par. Us haters are giving him a pass right now, but licking our chops at him to fail at any level.

With the great recruiting class, Elite 8 or bust?

Meh, I like Northern California better. Tbh college basketball is a nothing burger here. People only care about Golden State, 49ers, and the Giants.
Priorities. OT: any favorite food joints I can google. We're thinking of a driving west trip.

Edit: I would never put this on posters here, but it'd probably be easy to drive across county staying with posters. I'd love to see video of that.

I was surprised how well he did his first year, it sucks you guys lost the first game of the first day. I am curious to see what you guys do next year.
We shall see, def gonna have more talent but that doesn’t always translate.

Holler if you’re ever in the Bay.

You'd actually have the enemy over?

To be honest, I'm only an asshole in real life.

Seriously though, I have a good friend living in San Diego, he wants me to come out and go on a road trip with him to Vancouver. If that all falls into place, I'll definitely hit you up.

This board sucks anymore, honestly. Too many decent posters have disappeared. Barely any meat on the bone. I check out of habit, but probably need to kick that habit.

Jimbo and I were talking about that. He’s given up on the board basically... feels like mostly trolls.

Sure. It was my issue that Duke was being jammed down our throats like a Nathan’s hotdog.

Sure, it was annoying.

Haha of course man, if you do pass through SF I’ll take you on a tour of my favorite turds that embellish the sidewalks of the TL! Kidding, but if the time is right, could def catch a giants or niners game. Vancouver is awesome btw, I’ve only been once, but it’s really really pretty. Good eats and excellent herb.

I think the conference schedule is a good point. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little disappointed in some of our conference records during that time. We’ve taken some ugly L’s in sec play during his tenure and the youth excuse gets old from someone getting paid that much money. Roster management is part of it.

Overall though...I mean I’d hate to be around or talk basketball with the type of person that’s not happy with the overall results of either coach.

Agreed

Everyone judged Duke based on the Kentucky beatdown. There was no way Duke was going to play like that all season, but since it was a shocking score, everyone annoited Duke that night.

You can’t be as young as Duke and have so many key injuries heading into March. As a Duke fan, I’ve gotten used to the injuries, but it makes for a disjointed season. Like 2-3 seasons rolled into one. These guys were so likeable AND produced some memorable games without reaching the Final Four. This was my favorite non-title winning Duke team.

Now, K starts the next season with an experienced PG for the first time since the days of Quinn Cook. Certainly a great position to be in heading to next season.

That's the spirit.

I thought we were capable of winning it all in 2018. But I picked Villanova in every bracket I filled-out, knowing it's hard to beat a team that has 2 All-Americans and has its top 4 scorers all shooting over 40% from 3.

I felt better about our chances this year. Thought we had a wider margin for error. But, also fully aware that we have weaknesses - teams will pack it inside and we'll settle for jumpers. I didn't expect turnovers & a lack of transition buckets to be the downfall of our regional final matchup with MSU. I picked UVA to beat Duke in the Finals, FWIW. So I was half-right on that.

2017, I had us losing to Gonzaga in the Final Four. 2016, I had us losing to Baylor in the Round of 32. In summary, I never picked Duke to win it all the last four years.
Smart man

Yeah it was uncanny how good your defensive free throw % was late in games. Pretty sure that's what did in ND too!
