Today is a rivalry game between two teams that are located on the same street, Belmont Boulevard, and the distance between the schools is slightly less than two miles. Those two schools are Belmont, not surprising given the name of the road, and Lipscomb. The schools are located in Nashville, Tennessee (Belmont is actually less than a mile away from Vanderbilt). These two schools play in separate conferences, yet they play each other twice each year. Belmont won round one, 87-83. Round 2 is tonight.

I think Lipscomb and Belmont could potentially be at-large bids. They're not there yet. Both teams come into the game at 6-1. The NCAA Net Rankings have Belmont at 51, and Lipscomb at 59. I think Dylan Windler (Belmont) could be 1st or 2nd team in just about every conference in America - Garrison Matthews can ball, too. Here are some notable games from the respective schools:

Belmont:
Illinois State- W
Middle Tennessee- W
@Lipscomb- W
@Green Bay- L (OT)

Upcoming games: at UCLA, Western Kentucky, at Purdue

Lipscomb:
Belmont- L
@SMU- W
@TCU- W
@Middle Tennessee- W

Upcoming games: at Louisville, at Clemson

That’s actually really cool that non-con foes play each each other twice. Can’t beli the NCAA hasn’t found a way to ruin it

lol yep. It might become really bothersome if both teams end up in the top 50 this year and get to pad their strength of schedule, while not even playing a power 6 team.

They’ve already played once?

They’ve already played once?

Yup. They're in different conferences now; Belmont left the Atlantic Sun in favor of the Ohio Valley. So in order to play each other twice you have to get both games in before the end of December. Last year, they actually played each other on consecutive Mondays (Nov 27 & Dec 4).

Belmont wins a thriller over Lipscomb, 76-74. Game-winning bucket with less than 5 seconds left. I think either one of these schools could pull off a 1st Round upset in the NCAA Tournament.
