Austin Rivers

Lucas is awesome. I don't even think Duke fans like Rivers. He hit a big time shot in that game though.

Lucas is a tried and true Tar Heel fan. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but he's more like Gary-7 than he is a reporter. I can see why Tar Heels fans would love him, though.

Rivers gets a bad rap from Duke fans. I'm guessing that's because Duke lost that season to Lehigh. He was by far the best player on that Duke team, who despite losing to Lehigh, had a pretty successful season to that point. They were 8-0 on the road in the ACC. It had been a long time since previous Duke team had done, and none have done it since. He was very cocky....no arguing that.

BTW, everyone on the forum is basically in agreement than UNCfaninKY is the saltiest, most off base poster on this forum, right?
Thing is, I think he could be a good poster if he tried to have actual discussions instead of just constantly trolling UK and Duke and their fans. But yea, dude does seem salty more often than not.

Doesn't Lucas strictly work for a UNC organization though? It is more like that Duke guy (Watson maybe?) who has pro-Duke and anti-UNC takes on Twitter, some of them entertaining. I mean, no one expects him to be without bias. What both of those guys do and say is reasonable considering their job.

It isn't like the N&O, who have nothing but State people cover the Heels for what claims to be an objective source.

Mark Watson is probably a good comparison.

You’d be wrong cory. I like Austin. I am able to understand that being cocky on the court doesn’t make you a bad person.

Eh, there are plenty of Duke fans who don’t care for him so not sure it is wrong. I never said he was a bad person. He has always acted entitled and been sort of a punk on the court but I have no doubts he could be a great dude.

Honestly, he probably is, which is kind of sad.

He might be.

Or he might think about being an NBA starter, which is his current job and likely takes up most of his thoughts, same as would happen with you if you had a multi-million dollar, high stress job and also a memorable moment from six years ago. Whichever.

Mark Watson is probably a good comparison.

Eh, I've never seen Mark write anything as salty as even that single tweet that ended with "Also: Lehigh." Mark's a pretty good journalist... this guy doesn't seem to be.

I've seen Mark tweet plenty of snarky stuff about UNC, way more often than Lucas. We probably notice it more when a rival guy does it. I don't have any issue with it from either of them.

Anyone who ends their post that way doesn't get to say he is a journalist; just a fan like the rest of us. Which is okay, just don't get it confused.

Put me squarely in the camp of Duke fans who like Rivers. He wasn't on a great Duke team, and I shudder to think of that team without him (plus, as mentioned, he authored one of the coolest moments in the best rivalry). As far as the perceptions about his demeanor, he developed that largely out of necessity. He has always been saddled with the "coach's son" stuff that we all see even in children's rec leagues in our hometowns. He has dealt with it on literally the highest level possible. If he didn't have that attitude and that thick skin, he would have been chewed up and spit out a dozen times already. Instead he is a double figure scorer in the NBA.

I think some of you don’t understand the variation regarding what journalism is. Guys like Watson and Lucas are journalist, just not what we consider a news journalist.

As for Rivers, he didn’t have to develop that persona. His talent is what has brought him success. If he had to act that way along with the talent that seems like an issue.
