I get what you're saying. Guys step up when Zion is out, perhaps better ball movement, too. My point, was that Zion missing the entire second half is a much bigger footnote than a missed rebound opportunity, which was even contested by Jack White.

Duke was 3-3 in the absence of Zion, so hard for me to believe we improved our odds with him out of the lineup. He's noted for his offensive efficiency. But, was also really good at jumping passing lanes and protecting the paint. He was 2nd in the ACC in defensive win shares, despite missing 6 ACC games. And he was #1 in the nation in Box Minus/Plus, and by a large margin, too. Losing Zion for an extended period of time is a massive deal.

Gotcha. I thought you meant more relevant than the note about the buzzer beater. Misunderstood.

Being able to game plan for Zion gone is different than losing him late in the first half. For both teams.

Yeah, it is super unique. We have been blessed to have enough continuity over the last 4 years where it has worked. We actually may be in for a bit of trouble this year if somehow Balsa and Gray work themselves into the 1st round. I felt like they were going to be anchors for us next year to go along with Polite and Osborne so that we could bring in the highly touted players and have less growing pains. I'm still not sure they will do that, but if we make a deep run and they are a big part of it, their stock could grow substantially. MJ as our alpha this year has been really pleasant to see, his teammates have always respected him, but to see his performance on a game by game basis, I'm just happy for a guy that came here with a ton of accolades but won't leave with the individual honors he may have been able to achieve elsewhere. I would be really sad if he didn't make at minimum 2nd team All-ACC this year. I think he has shown enough to merit first team but we don't always get the benefit of the voting being so far south away from the bulk of the voters.

Of course I would want Balsa and Gray to return. And I’d be surprised if we didn’t get at least one back.

But let’s say we lost both. We would still have Polite, Osborne, Evans, Calhoun, Wilkes, Ngom, and Ballard back. That’s a lot of continuity within the system.

Mills will figure large next year.

This years team hasn’t learned how to grind when they’re not having their best game. Last year’s team was awesome at this.

Tough game, blew so many chances inside in the first half where we could have pushed the lead out. Alvarado just had it going, not a bad loss, but need to be ready for Pitt to give us all we can handle after BC

Well said.

The ceiling of this years team is very near the ceiling of last years team. But the floor of this years team is substantially lower.

That’s a product of missing Trent Forrest.

Sorry fellas I bet FSU and hard. That’s a kids of death. Hell it got UK to 5-10 and one of those five I made the mistake of betting LSU bc well uk sucks this year. But after the result I was right back on UK ML against bama.

Sorry for the jinx but I bet on uva as well so your welcome for that much.

You dirty SOB. Keep your voodoo to yourself!

GT just really needed a marquee win badly and they played like it. FSU, on the other hand, went through the motions. Playing great ball for a month straight is hard. A clunker was bound to happen.

Yea y’all had been playing as well as anyone, esp anyone in the conf.......except uva. I’m starting to think I really do have the voodoo. I’ve cashed out some years lost most years. I usually put 200$ or whatever mybookie will match in at the beginning of college football and then play till it’s gone then again at the beginning of college basketball. And fear not, it’s gone lol yesterday was unkind. I mistakenly figured homecourt adv wouldn’t be as big of a deal with no fans, and I’ve always a sucker for road favorites anyways. I used to just not bet em big, ever, regardless. But this year I got away from that and road faves have absolutely ravaged me lol. Hell just yesterday bama(pkem), FSU, uva, UCI (I know I know but I love betting the smaller conferences as well. Less likely someone off the bench is talented enough to explode for 25 out of no where like sometimes happens)

But usually I’ve had my most success identifying the trash teams and I mean super trash teams and just bet against them every game regardless of opponent. But them playing those back to backs has me fizzled. Like Thursday I bet (road fave) Boise State -2 @ Colorodo State. CSU won by 20. So Friday they play again, now Vegas has slightly adjusted spread to CSU -3 so I hit em at home anddddddd Boise by 8 fml). Now those are both solid squads, but I bet I could pull up my account history and find 10+ games that I bet the second game because of what happened in the first and lose. Back to back nights, same game, totally different outcomes. Plus seeing how they did the first go around in a normal year is something I would definitely consider when making bets, and have been quite successful with it in years past. This year, bout like everything else, no dice.

At least we don’t get GT off a loss Monday like I assumed would be the case.

You said Alvarado played well. What else can ya tell me about how the game went. Did Moses Wright have a big game? I remember he balled out against Uk and we are so thin down low.

I’m hoping DJ can contain Alvarado without fouling but I’m not sure Withers can check Wright without some help.

Offensively I don’t have a clue what we do besides the same old thing we always do, give carlik a pick and everyone else stand around and watch. I know Mack’s never been mistaken for some offensive genius but geeze at this point you’d think we would run something besides the same motion offense every possession until the shot clock get low if we don’t get an easy look, then it’s carlik PnR every time guaranteed. I get that having no post scorer handcuffs the possibilities, but you’d think there was something diff we could make work. Hell I bet we had 5-6 shot clock violations vs Clemson.

Given our losses to Clemson and Miami, and how those two look against any one else they play and I’m not so sure we aren’t about to see the wheels fall off. We needed that bc game yesterday for confidence, but at this point whose to say we even win that. Definitely not looking forward to playing GT esp if they are playing well enough to beat y’all smdh.

Moses had a huge second half. Honestly, both teams were pretty sloppy in the first half. FSU led 20-14 with about 10 min to go in 1st, but then someone came down from the stands and put a lid on our basket. We were having layups rim out.

Tech closed on an 11-1 run (which is unusual for FSU to not close a half well) and took a 33-25 lead into break.

FSU came out and immediately got Alvarado his third foul and I kind of thought, okay here we go, time to take control. But instead Alvarado just starts raining in step back threes. He was simply fantastic.

It was 40-35 but Noles just could never get back into within a bucket. Every time FSU hit a shot, Alvarado would either hit a shot or feed Moses for an ally oop. Then FSU (who is stilling missing Polite) started to force things and it just resulted in more fouls and turnovers.

MJ Walker fouled out with 7 min to play. 8 points, 4 turnovers, two where he just sort of lost it out of bounds with no real pressure.

I believe I saw a tweet where Alvarado and Wright were the first teammates to both have 20 points and 5 steals in the same game in like 25 years.

Hmmmm thanks for the input. I’d say we are toast Monday. But in a year like this who knows. Hopefully we come out pissed off at our piss poor performance last game @ Clemson.

And hopefully DJ can give Alvarado problems, but dang y’all have long guards as well, and he obv played well despite that. And we are playing a combo of PFs at C and they’ve performed pretty admirably, withers mainly but Traynor as well, but obv Wrights gonna be a tough matchup. I will say that we have played and beat some really good big men despite not having a capable true 5. Dude from Seton Hall I cant spell, bassey at wku, johnson/hurt for duke, Sarr/Jackson UK. So who knows man. It’s been a crazy year all around unless you’re Gonzaga or Baylor.

, I’ll be betting on GT for sure. Hopefully it works out as well as my last few bets 😂

And yea very off game by Walker. He absolutely killed us last year and looked flat out amazing doing it, so I always assume he’s A little better than he is, no offense.

I have the same affinity with Matthew hurt this year, dude looked like Dirk against us.

Yep, told my wife Saturday morning FSU will lose to GT. She asked why? I said nearly verbatim what you said above. GT was so close to beating UVA on the road. They wanted this one more and it showed.

FSU on another Covid pause. Next three games postponed. Second time our game at Pitt has been postponed.

This could have an impact on the standings...

Probably an act of grace on Boston College's behalf lol. Playing with 4 scholarship players against arguably the deepest team in the country would be brutal. Hope your guys can continue to stay sharp whenever they play again.

NC State's offense made our defense look like Baylor. A nice little ego boost, if nothing else.

They should have never let go of Al Skinner. In his final 10 seasons with BC, they made the tournament 7 times. Since firing him in 2010, BC has yet to make the tournament. Not good.

Edit: I see some people are speculating Rick Pitino to Boston College. Why not? He could make them a top 50 team by year 3.

Say what you want about the guy, but this would be good for ACC basketball

Would love to beat his ass but hell he will probly have bc better than us after the NCAA bends us over.

Yep, pretty jacked about getting him. He was the pre-season pick for POY in their conference. Will help in losing MJ and Barnes next year.

Yeah, he's a fun player to watch. I've followed him relatively closely as he graduated from the same high school as me - and I ran track with a few of his cousins.

Probably the first of many transfers. BC needs to hire a really quality coach if they're going to hang onto Jay Heath and CJ Felder.

Interesting comment from Bill Walton during last night's UCLA-Arizona game lol.

I was most impressed with Florida State. I was looking at Tony Bennett's squad and I said, "Wait a second, they're ranked higher than Florida State?" Florida State looked like they invented the sport; they had all these guys that looked and played like Scottie Pippen and Dr.J. And at the end of the day, they had the bulldozer (Raiquan Gray). ~ Bill Walton.
