You are not alone but I knew the season was going to be like this when we swung and miss on our portal targets.
Why do you think unc missed? NIL? Would think unc could soend with anyone on basketball recruits
You would think that and other fans are wondering the same thing. A few of the mods say he does alot for the program behind the scene, what that entails, I don't know.
Lots of 'rumors' on why. There are some who say he didn't spend all the money he had. There are many who say he had a very limited couple of people and no backup plan when they went back to their school or somewhere else, which is just stupid but I think this is definitely true. There is no doubt he was told a GM would help and refused it and apparently is still reluctant. It's part time to not care what his opinion is and force a GM on him. Maybe he will just outright resign if so.
Is roy still around much or have influence at all? I am sure he doesnt like the NIL stuff but does Davis listen to him?
Let's say Hubert is done. Then there's the conversation of who replaces.
UNC likes to keep in the family.
Family requirement has to be eliminated. It's silly at this point with the prospects that they have. Hubert took it to another level where he wouldn't even entertain assistants who weren't UNC guys, and he refuses to get help with NIL and recruiting. It's just absurd.
Since 2017 Top 10 recruits are 4x more likely to opt out of their freshman season (Shaedon Sharpe etc) than win a title (only castle has won a title and UCon was winning it last year regardless) and 5x more likely to miss the tourney than make a FF.
Recruiting literally doesn't matter in the era of NIL and the portal. In fact, chasing Top recruits is more likely to ruin your team than help.
So essentially, Hubert is just burying himself and UNC leadership should judge him based on this season's results and not useless recruiting.
I have said this many times. The amount of blue chip freshmen that have made the FF, is few and far between since 2015. The game has changed and now that the transfer portal is here, it's going to he even more difficult for freshmen to thrive.
But, if it’s a freshman that doesn't have to carry the load, that’s different. You need experienced upperclassmen to lead if you're going to make a run.
This was me! I like the Wilson kid and I would’ve been happy to have him but I would prefer to use that money on an older portal player myself. As far as Hubbie goes I don’t think he’s a good coach at all. I think people like him because he has the Tubby Smith thing going on (just not close to the coach Tubby was) with being a nice guy.
Awful. Escaped BC because their team and coach went braindead at the end of the game and UNC got a bunch of favorable calls.
