Texas Tech Vs. Michigan

No offense to my red raider brethren, but the differences defensively are splitting hairs. Both teams excel in this area. This game comes down to hitting shots. If either struggles, that will probably be the difference. I do feel confident that we will win, but I certainly won't discount a very strong Michigan team. My hope is our shooters can get hot from the 3 again, and Culver will take this game over and be aggressive driving to the hoop, which is his strength.

our defensive efficiency is higher, our ppg is very close (1 point) despite averaging 2 more possessions a game, our FG % allowed is better, we average nearly a steal and half more a game, we block a shot more a game...

Michigan played in conference with a very slow pace and it inflated their defensive numbers as far as ppg. that doesn't mean Michigan is a bad team but no there is nothing that shows me they are on the same level as TTU defensively, nearly everything says the opposite. to be fair most analysts are saying the same exact thing, TTU has a better defense, doesn't mean we win the game just means what we've accomplished up to this point. we could easily fall apart thursday.

The only relevent stat is defensive effenciency (of which the teams almost identical) which has already adjusted for pace and level of competition. Number of steals or blocks as a stand-alone stat are not very relevant.

Barttorvik has Michigan with the better defensive efficiency, Kenpom has TTU with the better defensive efficiency.

Someone literally just posted that for you so for you to say "but no there is nothing that shows me they are on the same level as TTU defensively" tells me you are looking at things with your eyes closed.

last thing i see that was posted on our board that bodes well for us.

Tech is probably the best in the country at preventing/defending shots at the rim.

Michigan is probably the best in the country at preventing/defending shots in transition.

I can break down the stats for you that bear this out but we don't really score in transition that often we like to slow the pace down like Michigan. I don't see how this is good for Michigan because teams that try to slow the ball down on us so far this year have gotten their teeth kicked in outside of a baylor team that went 40 percent from 3 shooting over half NBA 3s. the teams that have really beat us have made us play in transition, duke crushed us this way.

Looks like everything bodes well for you guys and nothing bodes well for us. We are doomed.

Michigan should win. They are the 2 seed. They have 3 elite defenders, a better defense, play better offense, and come from a tougher conference.

Meanwhile we were picked 7th in our conference's preseason poll and have only one player.

So we are doomed but playing with house money at this point. Can't wait to see what happens.

I like UM in this one. UN needed Poole and Mathews to play well to make a run and they have. Both teams will frustrate the other while on defense but UM better 3 point shooting will be the difference.

Make sure you selectively choose which advanced metric solely matters and act like that negligible difference in efficiency puts the teams on different levels.

Steals and blocked shots apparently dont matter. Ill just let you roll with that.

The only stat that matters is points given up per possession. How you go about doing that is a stylistic choice. You can run a pressing D ala VCU havoc which leads to a lot of steals but a higher FG% allowed. You can lack shotblockers but make up for it by drawing more charges ala Wisconsin. Michigan does it by running teams off the 3 point line and not giving the other team FTs. So yes, counting stats like steals and blocks don’t matter on their own.

Both teams make the court seem smaller for opposing offense. I'm curious to see what Beilein comes up with on the offensive end. Could just be whichever team hits shots early or goes on a run at some point

I'll tell you why they matter in relation to this game. It's stylistic matchup. Michigan does it's best work stopping the transition points, we don't even try for those points typically, just like michigan. TTU does it's best work defensively against teams trying to hit FG's in set situations, which we will see a ton in this game, probably every drive. Michigan will only see us in transition off steals and even then not always.

Didn’t expect it to be that lopsided, but I thought Tech would win convincingly.

one stat 1-19 from 3 doesn't mean TT was that much better, and TT was only 6-19 from 3 for 31.6%

it was just a matter of them going cold from 3,

Iowa who finished 109th in adjusted defense held Michigan to 59 points on 32.3% from the floor and 24.2% from 3. so please don't go all chest thumping on your win. Michigan was 35.1% from 3 on the season. so its not like you shut down a offensive machine.

Don't be so trashy, brother.

Everyone saw that game

don't care, when i pointed out stats that seemed relevant to the game I got told I was a moron so fvck them. UM arrogance knows no bounds. UM vs TTU was a terrible matchup for UM and even Beilien said so, there was statistical evidence that pointed this out before the game and I was told i was stupid for bringing it up. screw them

Prevalent or relevant?

it's not like TTU is one of the best in the country at defending 3pt shots. that would have nothing to do with it.

Steals and blocks tie into defensive efficiency. Not the brightest bulb of the bunch are ya?

Funny that you completely ignore Barttorvik. Agenda much?

steals and blocks factor into the outcome of the game. was 14 turnovers typical for Michigan? Are ya'll usually the victim of 8 steals and 4 blocked shots?

lolololololololol. enjoy the crow dumbass

Laughing The only b1g poster that didn't openly pick Michigan was the OSU fan RollLaugh

Thieves.

Not to white knight here, but I remember him being very realistic of KU’s chances.

I never said or implied KU would win convincingly. Or win period.

This guy isn’t playing with a full deck though. It’s best to ignore him.
