Sleeper Final Four Picks?

I agree that you can't be a sleeper if you're a preseason top 10 team like Tennessee. Same should apply to Nevada.

Indiana would qualify as a sleeper. Illinois would qualify as a troll pick. Same level as picking DePaul as a sleeper.
So, so this.....Sure they fit the description. But shit, so does Morehead State..Laughing

We've been bad, but we're no DePaul.

Ok. You lost me at the Nichols/Diop, "comparison" to start. Also, you fail to mention that Loyola returned 4 starters off that team that finished 97th in KenPom. MOF, they lost only one guy of importance off that team; Milton Doyle. In other words, they returned a pretty good core, and added a pretty good freshman in Krutwig. Illinois doesn't fit that mold. They return Frazier and Nichols. And thats about it. Lost Black, Finke and Smith. Ayo is really good. But Feliz? Anyways....You are right. Illinois certainly fits the criteria of a "sleeper". That is for sure.

Kipper Nichols and Keita Bates-Diop had very similar advanced stats. @Mgkcbb has made the comparison before elsewhere. Kipper's biggest problem is Kipper. If he can get his head on straight, he'll have a solid season. Not sure if it will be the leap that Keita made, but he was really starting to put it together at the end of the year. He's only played 1.5 seasons, so there's room for improvement.

As for Leron, he was a beast on offense, no doubt. He was equally as bad on defense, and his rebounding disappeared last year. I think we'll be able to make up his offense with other guys stepping up, and it doesn't take much to replace what he and Finke did on defense.

Right now I'd say Illinois and DePaul are on the exact same tier, but historically, definitely on a different tier since DePaul has a National Championship and Illinois does not.
We just had our worst season in 40 years. DePaul hasn't won that many games in the last 12 years.

You're in the same league as Temple and San Francisco historically. Illinois is a top 15 program, historically. You're not even on our radar. It's really, really sad that our worst decade has you thinking that DePaul is a peer. I'd hate to ever be that bad.

Edit: In what world does DePaul have a national championship? Did you guys give yourselves one that no one else recognizes? I see a big 0 on the top of this page.

News flash, you ARE that bad. Welcome to the party, pal.

Thanks for the link, congrats on being the only team ranked in the top 17 all time without a national championship.

I really hate to take on such an easy target, but you keep replying.

It would take 11 more years of being worse than we were last season to be that bad. You're in a select group of terrible.

Congrats on not making the top 40! Congrats on breaking 10 wins for the first time in 3 years. You guys are really picking up steam! Maybe this year you'll increase your win total to 12 (that would tie your season high since 07-08).

You guys probably should go back to a conference with the skill-level of CUSA. At least you were able to post a .500+ record in 50% of your years.

Edit: I forgot we played you last year (easy to do). How'd that go?

Talk all you want, but the facts remain that your team is just as shitty as my team right now. In fact, only time you've been good in the past 20 years is when Bill Self was using you guys as a stepping stone.

Both won 4 conference games and we got wins vs Marquette and Providence. All your conference wins were against other terrible teams.

Face it, your shit team is very much at the same bottom of the barrel level as my shit team.

We're better than we were last year. You guys can't even get a recruit to stay once they realize who they committed to. :D

Want to bet who makes the tournament before the next? Any amount of money that you want to put on it.

We're climbing out of the gutter. You're climbing out of the Mariana Trench with weights on your ankle. That's the difference between us.

I back the Illini fan more than the bandwagon DePaul fan who likes any team who’s good each year.

you dont need to tell me

Just kinda strange to latch onto several NCAA basketball teams.

What's wrong with that? There are 351 D-1 schools, and just about everyone is going to have ties with more than one school. I've attended 3 different D-1 schools myself. Throw my siblings into the mix, and we're already up to double digits.

Having allegiance to said school is different than arbitrarily picking a school to bandwagon for year in and year out.

It's not arbitrary or random. My two main teams are DePaul (fan since birth) and LSU (fan since 1987). Every year I pick a freshman or two I really like and follow their team religiously for the year. Last year I picked Trae and OU after seeing him in the PK80.

2 years ago I fell for Lonzo in December and followed UCLA the rest of the year.

3 years ago I followed Jalen Brunson to Nova since he is from the area I grew up.

I also watch an average of 40 CBB games every week during the season. Love the sport and end up having lots of teams I like by the end, some good and some not so good.

I'm a diehard fan.

Personally, I find it weirder when people are diehard fans of one team and don't even watch other games. So much good stuff out there.

Agreed. Only watching 30-40 games a year would be hard, IMO. I DVR a solid 30+ games each week. I usually just watch the 2nd half, unless it's a game I'm really interested in. But I always find myself liking a new team every year it seems like. Here's what I wrote previously concerning some of favorite teams from the past:

2009 Wake Forest
2010 Butler
2011 BYU/Ohio State
2012 Kansas
2013 Michigan/Indiana
2014 Wichita State
2015 Notre Dame/Gonzaga
2016 Oklahoma
2017 UCLA/Northwestern
2018 Texas A&M (I've been a fan of them from day 1)

I think I read that Kansas St is bringing back 7 of is top 8 scores.

Shaka has his roster, with experience, depth, and balance. Texas should be a sweet 16 team, if not a sleeper.

He is currently enrolled in class and from what I have heard he should be ready to play.
When is he at full strength I have no idea but it should be by Big XII play for sure.

Even with all that I think Kerwin Roach and his development is the real key.
You already know with Jones what he provides but I think with Roach his ceiling can be even higher.
Jones is a year away from being back to what he was. I think he should redshirt. Unless Roach gets hurt, we don't need Jones much.

They need Jones. Mainly because of his shooting and defense.

I think with Jones they can play a lot of four guard lineups.

I think we will see
Sims
Coleman
Jones
Liddell
Roach

Liddell can rotate with Hepa who is 6-10.

Then when Texas wants to go big
Sims
Ostenkowski
Hepa
Jones
Roach

Even using Liddell who is 6-6 in the backcourt.

I dont think people realize how explosive Illinois offense will be this year. They are going to have 4 guys who can drive, pass, and shoot it from distance on the floor at all times. A plethora of skilled guards.
