Place to put my Nonsense Thread.

Im going to blow your minds, guys.

You ready?

Liberal Americans fight in wars for America.

I know. Crazy

It wasn’t an absurd take, though. It was pretty clear she doesn’t have a blanket problem with the American flag. She probably doesn’t walk around 4th of July parades and go, “this is disgusting.”

She literally says she saw "dozens of American flags, which is also just disturbing." Sounds like she does, in fact, have a blanket problem with the American flag.

“I was on Long Island this weekend visiting a really dear friend, and I was really disturbed. I saw, you know, dozens and dozens of pickup trucks with explicatives [sic] against Joe Biden on the back of them, Trump flags, and in some cases just dozens of American flags, which is also just disturbing … Essentially the message was clear: This is my country. This is not your country. I own this,” Gay said.

It doesn’t seem like the Left hates the American flag. It can be a powerful symbol for protests. But there hasn’t been a concerted hatred of the American flag. All of my Dem friends and myself have American flags in our yards.

Do you not count us as on the Left?
The left hates anything that can be perceived as racist at this point. Granted that's just about anything these days, but the American flag is definitely one of them.

So you’re aware of the context of what she’s saying. Given that context, it doesn’t seem as though she has a problem with the American flag. She has a problem in the message she feels others are trying to send with it.

Sorry I can’t get outraged when the New York Post tries to flip a false narrative.

I want your comment to make sense so bad. More than anything, really.

Yes, but, there's a 2 to 1 ratio on the importance of displaying the American flag. Collectively speaking, Democrats are much less proud of our country.

I feel like Brooky, in some cases, probably not all, just thinks we are blowing smoke out of our asses with what we post. But there is generally always a reasoning for it, and this is a perfect example.

Perhaps "hate" wasn't a favorable word, but this backs up my feelings regarding the flag. One party is proud to show it, and the other, not so much.

Also, its interesting that dems are more respectful of disagreeing opinions. Even though its close, I wouldn't have thought that. LOL at the following the law stat. Everyone could have seen that coming.

She said she saw dozen of American flags, which is also disturbing. Yes, she was disturbed by the anti-Biden messages and expletives. But the American flags which she saw, she also find disturbing. Seems pretty straightforward.

Not following your line of thought. Expound on that a little.

Which is part of being American. If you don’t like what’s happening in the country, you speak up.

Right. But what she didn’t say is that American flags, outside of that context, disturb her. You see the distinction?

There’s a difference, for her at least, between a big American flag flying on the back of a lifted diesel truck and an American flag waving in a yard, and so on.

They believe that in thought, but they don't actually practice it.

How bout those billionaires not paying taxes while everybody else does. Who do you guys think is enabling that game? Probably the politicians that want to keep dark $ a thing. But who cares, there's a wall on the border to keep the bad guys out coming soon.

This is a drive-by...

I think the difference is in how we associate American pride with Americanism.

I see value in defiance. I think defiance is a hallmark of what it is to be an American. Questioning and criticizing the country and the government is itself a very American thing.

Hold on. How big are the billionaire’s flags?

Liberals will never be satisfied. There's always something wrong. Hence, your collective national pride will always be significantly lower than it is for conservatives.

Agreed. Liberals want change. Conservatives traditionally resist change. That’s how that all works.

Liberals wanted equal rights for black people back in the 50’s and 60’s (before then, too). Conservatives of the time thought that was nuts and thought it would ruin the country because it would make the country that they’re so prideful of ‘different’. Turns out, civil rights for black people was a good move and Conservatives eventually got on board.

Who was being more American? The Conservatives who initially resisted equal rights for minorities because that didn’t align with the version of America they identified with and took pride in? Or the Liberals who pointed out America’s flaws and felt shame that their country didn’t align with their version of what America should be?

The 1% pays vastly more than anyone else. It is a progressive tax rate after all.

In a nutshell:

Conservatives: It’s not broke, stop trying to fix it. You’re making it worse.

Liberals: It is broke, we need to fix it. Help us.

Sometimes one side is more correct than the other.

Part of what turns me off so much to your party, is the lack of context they have thinking things in this country aren't great. Does America do everything perfect? No, but no country does. I question, if people aren't happy here, where they generally have everything they could possibly need, and every opportunity, where would they be happy? Or are they just miserable people?

I don't disagree that defiance is part of being an American, but what exactly is there to be defiant over in this country? The person you voted for didn't win last time? A black man got shot and killed because he pulled a knife on a police officer? These social issues that dems seemed to get worked up over and "defy" aren't real issues affecting huge portions of any population.

Are you serious?

80% of House GOP voted in favor of the Civil Rights Act
61% of House DNC voted in favor of the Civil Rights Act

82% of Senate GOP voted in favor of the Civil Rights Act
66% of Senate DNC voted in favor of the Civil Rights Act

Yeah. That's what you want to believe anyways.

I think most people would agree that most things in America are mostly fine. (Sidebar: Is that careful enough of a comment for you, hail?)

Liberals wanting change doesn’t mean they’re overall unhappy or miserable. Because America is so well off in most areas, the things they’re fighting for are going to affect a smaller portion of Americans. The idea/hope is that the injustice they fight affects a smaller and smaller portion of Americans until next to none are unfairly disadvantaged.

Some of the problem comes down to what ‘next to none’ is. Conservatives see things as mostly fine, so not much needs to be done; we’re at ‘next to none’ levels. Liberals see things as mostly fine and a lot still needs to be done. Fighting for that few extra percent of ‘fine’ probably brings them happiness, too, because they have a cause. Both sides are probably pretty happy in their day to day life.

Faux outrage. So, Bezos paid $973 million in taxes during a 5-year period, while Musk paid $455 million in taxes. Yes, there are occasionally years where they have investment losses where they don't pay anything. That is nothing unusual. But come on, they combined to pay $1.4 billion in taxes over five years and you're feeling angry about that? The amount they've previously paid in taxes would take literally thousands of people to match that.

You’re conflating Liberal and Conservative with Republican and Democrat.

I think if I stayed off social media I could get behind your last point. I swear, folks get on facebook these days just to argue with people.

Idk, I guess I just feel like if most people thought America was fine for the most part, we wouldn't be trying to kill each other over every little thing. But what do I know.

I don’t use social media. This forum is about as close as I get. So I’m probably insulated from a lot of that squabbling and rhetoric.
