Of course it helps win titles...sustained success and multiple titles helps attract the best players. With NIL, it is now no longer the only attraction, but still plays a big part.
The better players a team has, the more likely they are to have success in March. Doesn't guarantee titles, but it is an added advantage to those programs to put them in a better position to win titles.
I would much rather recruit the best players by showing them a trophy case full of hardware with an NIL package then have an empty trophy case with an NIL package.
But that is just me.
Players are driven by money (NIL) and PT and not by a dusty trophy from their grandfather’s day.

Why hasn't UT does anything of note, ever, in college basketball? What is the reason for that?
Why is UK, Duke, UNC, KU, UCLA, UConn, etc. consistently and historically good in college basketball?
Why is Bama, OSU, ND, Mich, Oklahoma, etc. consistently and historically good in college football?
Why is it always the same teams, generally speaking, that have the best chance/opportunity to win the title each year?

UT and others have made the investment to win it. Vols built TBA and then hired Barnes, bama upgraded Coleman Col. and hired Oats and the Barners built their arena and hired Pearl
UK has always been about CBB at the expense of other sports, but others have increased the competition.
Of course teams vary year to year. That isn't the point being discussed.
I am talking about why there is a handful of teams in both college basketball and football that have sustained, historical success, not just a couple good years or 1-2 titles.
UK was really good in 2020 (won the SEC), 2022 (was a two seed and blew out KU and UNC), and 2024 (was a three seed). Those were all really good teams, two of which fell flat on their face in the postseason because of an inept coach that is no longer around.
Guess what, UK is really good again this year and is a top 5/10 team. So when you say UK hasn't been "good" in a while, you lose credibility.
And no, UT or Bama do not have a better chance than UK does this year. That is a foolish statement to make when looking at all three teams body of work, thus far. I wouldn't be foolish to say UK has a better chance than those two teams.

At least UK basketball has eight championships and 17 FFs across five coaches and eight decades. UT football pales in comparison.
