OGT: Virginia @ Duke

Watched the first episode of Reacher instead of this piece of shit game.

I don’t think this game has illuminated any concerns that didn’t already exist

I didn't expect Virginia to kick your ass inside tbh. I know stats show Williams/Paolo had a lot of blocks but it felt like they were getting a ton of good looks at the rim the entire game.

They did. Duke was soft tonight. Terrible coaching.

Bennett definitely saw where to attack Duke. Good job at executing his game plan. Duke couldn't take care of the ball in big moments and it bit them. Then of course, it's the three ball that wins it.

If you skipped the game how do you know that lol?

I just didn't expect it. Inside on offense and defense is maybe ya'lls strongest point this year. Kinda weird considering how perimeter oriented Duke usually is.

That being Duke's strongest point is what makes them a middle of the pack team. With a better structured team inside and out, Williams and Banchero would be a handful. Also, one stands around too much and the other dribbles too much. This is not so much about tonight's game, but in general.

Slept through it but it seemed like a letdown spot coming off of trouncing our rival Saturday. Still expected them to win but not cover, oh well.

Duke fans any concerns here? or just an every body has a bad game type of mentality?

Not really. We may not win it all. We may not make a Final Four. Takes a little bit of luck to win 4-6 games.

But, what I do like, is the fact that we've been in every single game. We were up by 13 at the half against Ohio State. Thought we got tired legs in that game... We were beating Miami, Florida State, and Virginia in the final minute. We're honestly not that far away from being 21-2 or 22-1.

We just got to learn to close out games. 3 ACC losses by a combined 4 losses. That stings a bit. But, still feel like we're the best team in the conference - and a Final Four contender.

Better watch out, Ghost will question your fandom.

Tony Bennett is an elite coach. I think what he's done @ UVA is pretty incredible. I know they are down this year but last night does remind you he's still around and he's probably going to be the top HC in the ACC for the next decade. I know they limit pace haven't followed them as closely this year, but last night only 5 turnovers, that's pretty good in that environment.

Now I understand Duke had a quick turn around from the rival game and you gotta incorporate that into last night's game. That Saturday to Monday is a tough schedule. And maybe the letdown produced a lack of focus, and you see 15 turnovers from a team that has done a pretty good job in that department all year averaging only 10.

UVA played Miami at home on Saturday and had to travel to Durham for the Monday night game. Duke had to play at UNC on Saturday and was at home vs. UVA on Monday. The letdown is a reasonable explanation for the loss. The Saturday-Monday schedule is less reasonable since it was technically tougher for UVA than for Duke.

The fact that Duke has already lost 3 conference games in this shit ACC makes me appreciate the seasons that UVA went 16-2 and 17-1 in significantly stronger ACC seasons. Maintaining a standard of excellence throughout an entire conference season is difficult to do.

I don't think excuses are needed. Duke was out classed and they have a serious lack of consistent guard play. They're going to struggle against every team that has moderately good guards and a decent game inside. And they don't seem to have that player that refuses to lose. Keels was the only one who showed a glimpse of that last night. But he's just not that good. Yet anyways.

Yeah, no. You clearly arent following us and spit balling.

Tourney bound
You've lost 3 of 5, including a game against Rutgers where you scored 46 points. And your wins in that stretch are over Ped State and Minnehaha at home.

You may dance but @jhmossy saying the loss to you is looking worse is fact.

You have to obtain it in order to maintain it. Unfortunately it has been many years since Duke has obtained it.

Right after I made my post I realized UVA probably played Saturday too - good call.

Without looking it up I'm willing to bet Bennett's record vs K is pretty good all things considered.

I think there was some good execution last night by UVA but I did not get to see the entire game.

I'm not sure why UVA is down this year from what I've seen in spots I see some decent players. The year is not over yet and a win like last night might mean nothing or it might be a springboard for you guys.

Is it true Duke hasn't won a conference title outright since like 2006? That's absurd.

I'm not sure I've seen Keels play well except for the Kentucky game. Must be how Kansas felt about Keion Brooks having a career game.

I can't figure out this Duke team I bet their fans know it much more than I do. Some games their length looks just so impressive they got some guys that simply cover a lotta ground.

Other games I dunno the guard play is a little shaky shot selection not the best.

I think they get it rolling just before the ACCT and will be a tough out in March. No matter how crappy a league is you still gotta play some teams that know what you're going to do sometimes before you do it. That might have been what happened last night, again you run into Tony Bennett and his team may not be vintage but his coaching always is.

Sorry you're so miserable that you whine about officiating in a game between two completely irrelevant teams to you.
We UK fans still remember in the first game of the year Duke beat Kentucky by 8 points and the refs really helped Duke out by giving them 23 free throws to UK's 7.

Many non-Duke fans recognize the differentials in calls.

K is the one ACC coach who has a pretty substantial winning record vs. Bennett. We've definitely had some heartbreaking losses to them over the years so last night was pretty sweet.

The down year is a combination of losing a lot of players to graduation and the transfer portal and having two pretty meh recruiting classes back to back. Continuity is really important for our defense to be elite. The 2022 class is strong and could be really good if we land 2023 5 star PG London Johnson and he reclassifies. I'm not really too concerned about our trajectory moving forward but the transfer portal and NIL does concern me a bit.
