*****OFFICIAL NCAA TOURNEY THREAD*****

No one gives a **** about the NIT. Please don’t tell me you’re actually using NIT performance to make an argument. You can’t be that dense.
Big schools won't necessarily get up for the NIT, but superior talent generally still wins out. It's usually won by a name brand team with superior athletes. Which is why A&M is breezing through it this year.

But no, I'm not basing my argument on NIT performance. Just a side note. That said, should we be making broad statements about a 15 team league based on the performance of 3 teams?

He's not strong enough. Not enough bulk to get where he wants 24/7. He's not savvy enough to overcome it. He doesn't have the coordination to catch it outside of the post and get to the rim if there is resistance. Watch Bacot. Watch Banchero. Watch Timme. Watch Oscar. They don't get every call. But they get paint points. Their fans will tell you they don't get nearly enough calls. But they always get some calls. I don't want to run this dude down but you asked, and Edey is just not a high end player that can power through the challenge. Or maybe he just had an off game. It happens.

It's a contact sport, especially around the basket. This is how the game is played.
Yeah, when you are 8"- 9" taller and outweigh your defenders by 50 to 100 pounds there aren't really any excuses for not getting to your spots.

Notre Dame also won 2 games and played TTU right down to the wire. Unsure about superior talent winning out in NIT, I will have to check which seeds last 10 winners were.

Notre Dame over Alabama was one of the easiest picks on the bracket. Bama was garbage.

Miami and UNC have definitely outperformed their seeds, but I think everyone knew that UNC was much better than an 8 coming into the tourney. The fact that a few teams are playing far better than earlier in the year doesn't mean that the league is great overall.

Disagree about the Notre Dame over Bama pick- heck, majority of people had Rutgers beating Notre Dame in the play-in game.

4 teams in the ACC looked good in the tourney. Duke, Miami, and ND played well most the year. ND did crawl out of the gate but they also beat UK pre conference and played decent structured ball most of the year. They always had a ceiling probably. Miami had underrated guards. The HC's for each of these programs have been in the game for years and have had success.

UNC obviously had a sky high ceiling and they aren't the first team to ever wait until early March to play much better than they did the entire year.

The ACC was better than we all gave it credit for. It's okay to walk something back. Nobody is saying the ACC is great either. But it is a reminder the league isn't dead.

Anyone like Nova? Feels like everyone is on Houston. Picked Nova to win it all and not sure why they’re 3-point dogs. Tough to doubt Wright.
Well Houston has been playing great basketball, but yeah them as a 3pts favorite over nova is a bit unusual. Perhaps Vegas knows what we do not, but I really don’t think they are this much better than nova, even if Houston does win this game.

It’s obviously better than most gave it credit for. And I thought that as I watched a few games during the conference season. I’d see UNC and think “this is the team that everyone says is garbage?” But Miami and UNC definitely got off to a rough start and that had a lot to do with the perception of the league.

As for comparing tourney performance to the Big 12, it’s kind of hard. All but one team from each league has either met or exceeded expectation.

Baylor got a bit of a raw deal by drawing the hottest team in the country as their 8. TCU nearly took down Arizona. If they’d been given Miami’s draw, I’ll bet they’d be playing KU tomorrow. And if any of the other ACC teams had played Duke the other night, there’s a good chance they’d be sitting at home now like Texas Tech.

Hard to compare. Both have been really solid in the tourney.

I picked UNC to beat Baylor in my bracket, but only because of Baylor's injuries-if Baylor was healthy, they win that game..

Plus Wake was a pretty darn good team. At least should have been a tourney team, probably could have won a game.

And lots not forget that FSU was first in the ACC standings after beating Miami and Duke back to back before literally losing 5 starters to injury. And FSU still ended up beating ND even after the injuries.

Nova comes out hard!!!

A close comparison would be Indiana losing SCott May in 75----OR, IU losing Alan Henderson in 93.

Scott May, yes. That one makes sense. But, Alan Henderson? No. You guys had the NPOY in 93, and it wasn't Henderson lol.

1997 Kentucky. Lost Derek Anderson halfway through the season. Lost in the title game to Arizona in OT. Should've been the 2nd title in a UK 3-peat.

That's a pretty good one. Kind of similar with '75 Indiana. Anderson was 1a or 1b with Mercer. And May was right there with Green and Benson. Crazy to think Kentucky very easily could have three-peated.

I felt like Duke was playing like a title contender without Kyrie Irving in 2011. We earned a 1 seed in the tournament after beating up on Carolina pretty good in the ACC title game (and UNC advanced to the Elite 8 that year). Once Kyrie came back for the tournament, we just looked like a typical team.

They are. But also, Houston is just missing open shots.

Yeah. But Houston isn't a great shooting team. They usually live off of second chance opportunities and turning you over. Nova has done a good job at taking that away.

I stopped reading after the first sentence. Just lazy evaluation. Not strong enough? Yeah ok. He manhandled Cockburn, but Edey isn't strong enough to get to the post vs small 6'7" players. GMAFB

It's hard to get to your spot when they allow you to mug people.
