*Official* B1G Off-season Thread

For the past 3 seasons (well really 2 of the last 3, didn’t expect much in 2017) MSU has under performed in March.

But like, he still has performed he best in March based on his respective ranking since 2000 even with these 2 years, and it’s not really that close.

Couple B1G recruits made the USA U18 team...TJD and Matthew Hurt.

Keion Brooks, DJ Carton were cut.

Source? I know that he was behind Beilein in Performance Against Seed Expecations from 2003-2017 and that's before Beilein took a 3 seed to the National Championship Game and Izzo lost in the second round as a 2 seed.

Surprised Brooks was cut.

Me too I think Brooks has the tendency to be very up and down. He crushed it the first couple of weeks in April and has dropped off a tad. Carton getting cut surprised me as well. The only thing with Carton was Anthony was trying out as well. Anthony is on awholenother level compared to the other guards.

Watford and Lewis both cut as well. There were some damn good players there for that camp.

That must only be true, if it doesn't take into account the years Beilein missed the tournament completely.

Even by your link I don't get the statement that (especially the bold):

"But like, he still has performed he best in March based on his respective ranking since 2000 even with these 2 years, and it’s not really that close."

Not to mention that Beilein didn't come to Michigan until 2008. Since then Michigan is ahead of Michigan St.

I'm not the one who said "its not really that close". I think the point he was trying to make was, that even after these last few years which have been sub-par for MSU standards... Izzo still has the best overall tournament results of any B1G coach.

To expand on it, Beilein has had 2 incredible tournament runs that account for 10 of his 17 NCAAT wins at Michigan. But he also missed the tournament completely at Michigan in 2015, 2010, and 2008.

Tournament record since 2007:
- Beilein: 17-8
- Izzo: 25-12

PASE is only included in the calculation if you make the tournament, so the years Beilein missed are not held against him. That's not to take anything away from Beilein, he did an incredible job this year.

Well maybe he can clarify what he meant by Izzo being the best coach based on expectations and it not being close. I didn't see him clarify only B1G coaches.

No one is taking anything way from Izzo, either, aside from a few jokes here and there. He's a great coach and that is especially so when you go back that far in history.

That being said.... since 2008 (Beilein's first season), Michigan is ahead of Michigan st. in Overall Ranking, Performance vs Kenpom Expectations and Performance vs Seeded Expectations. I'd imagine that the Overall Ranking includes years were the tournament was missed, no? I've never seen the site before but since you linked it maybe you can elaborate.

That is exactly what I was saying. He has the best tourney results of all the coaches in the Big Ten. That’s a fact.

And, compared to the top coaches, he performs quite good with not great teams, more so than any other coach. Beilein is for sure up there, but that’s Izzo’s staple

Since 2008 Michigan has been better per the site MHS linked

That site was the first site that I found that kept PASE stats. Not sure what Overall Ranking means, or where you even see it on that site?

Again, PASE has to be taken with a grain of salt if it doesn't punish a coach/team for missing the tournament completely, wouldn't you agree? If not, I guess Kevin Ollie is the GOAT.

Well when someone cites performance in March vs expectations in March then PASE is worth citing.

Breaking news...great deals on dick measuring devices on EBay. PenisAverageSizeEstimator.

This might sound kind of... odd but I have almost no emotion when it comes to Beilein. Like I’m supposed to hate him cuz he coaches Michigan but I mostly don’t care.

All of this back and forth is pretty entertaining. I don’t know what it is about Beilein but win or lose it’s pretty much “meh” all around. I assume it’s because UM fans seem to not care much for basketball outside of a dedicated group. If Harbaugh attained the same success as Beilein I’d be pretty pissed off.

Can’t help but agree. Class act guy. He’s very hard to hate on. Not a fan of the program, but a great coach that any school would be lucky to have.

He’s hard to hate because he’s classy and does things the right way. I used to feel the same way about izzo before he started complaining and making excuses all the time.

Dantonio came in prickish, so he’s always been easy to hate

Dantonio in what way? For dominating Michigan? He’s very quiet and respectful when talking to the media, and has never made negative comments on UM, or anybody for that matter. I don’t get that, how anybody could really hate him.

Not sure you can consider this past run as exceeding your seed considering Michigan only played 6 seeds or higher as a 3 seed en route to the title game. Yes, a 3 seed should only get to the sweet sixteen, but that's assuming all the 1&2 seeds from your region and side of the bracket don't choke or aren't overrated.

Lunardi's latest bracketology has 8 B1G teams:

MSU - 2 seed
Michigan - 4
Purdue - 6
Ohio State - 6
Nebraska - 9
IU - 9
Maryland - 10
Wisconsin - 11
First four out - Penn State

http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/bracketology

No idea why he has OSU a 6. At a minimum, I'd flip them and IU. I also don't see MSU as a 2...probably more like a 4 or 5. I think Nebraska is too low as well.

My projections:

Michigan - 4
MSU - 5
Purdue - 6
IU - 6
Nebraska - 7
Maryland - 10
Wisconsin - 10

these predictions are worthless.

I have a question for those that think I am this gilligan/nitewing. I 1st came to this board in March of 2014, now why would I change my name? I post once per week now after returning because I won't pay to post multiple times.

before when I posted on here, I tried to post again right after I made my 1st post and the msg came up saying [ you must wait before posting again, with the "you can pay for the premium services to post multiple times.

I actually started out on Hawkeye report under the name of Karnack1 in 2002. before that I wondered around on the internet chat servers, Dahlnet, Austnet, MSN and the server Pirch which gave me access to over 20,000 chat rooms..
