*Official* B1G Off-season Thread

This would have concerned me last year...Not so much this year. We have depth. Plus, I think it helps Phinisee; I think he'll eventually start at PG. Might as well be early.

If Green is out, we still have options:

PG- Phinisee/Durham/Langford...

Race's position is deep. Not concerned there.

Phinisee? Durham?

Phinisee? Durham?
Phinisee is a 4* PG...Not overly skilled, but solid. Handles the ball well. Good decision maker. He'll be a great fit for Millers system. Durham can play some PG. Not desirable. But in a "pinch", he would suffice. Green possibly being out to start the season helps Phinisee. Gets him some early playing time.

So Phinisee would start if Green is out?

Phineese was a good get for IU.
Yes he was. I've seen him play multiple times; including the state finals vs New Albany. He's very heady, solid. Does what needs to be done. Plays within himself---but more importantly, within the system. He's tough. Fits Miller's system.

With Langford and Morgan you don't need anything flashy from that spot
Bingo. Not to mention, Smith. Just get those guys the ball. IMO, he's more ideal to that then Green. To me, Green's a shoot first, score first, type of "PG". With Morgan, Langford and Smith, IU doesn't need that.

I like that kid a lot. Him and Smith are my favorite players on IU. They should be good.
Should be. I think we are at the start of some very good, "Purdue/IU game", and recruiting battles. I love Eric Hunter. I wish IU could've gotten him. Great scorer. Can shoot it. Slasher as well. He's going to be really, really good.

Archie and Crean both took long looks at Hunter and neither decided to offer. Maybe the size issue? Kid is a scorer would just have some confirms until he grows.

He's going to be really good. Yeah, he's only 6"3", But he can shoot; Shot 50 plus percent from three..He can score. Very athletic. I saw him a few times. Impressed, TBH. IMO, IU missed a solid player(to be) here.

He was 6'3, 156 when he got on campus but is already up to 170. Will probably struggle with contact still this year but by next year, he should be strong enough to absorb it.

Oregon article about Malik Hall from a week ago. FWIW this guy thinks they're getting everyone.

Malik Hall was on campus a few weeks back for an official visit and this is the guy right now I feel the most confident on who will become a Duck. The Top 100 prospect can play three spots for the Ducks (power forward, small forward, and then center in small ball sets). His high school teammate N'Faly Dante is also an option for Oregon in 2020, and there is a good chance he moves into the 2019 class. If he does, I love Oregon's chances.

The Athletic's preseason top 1 to 68 (NCAA tournament):

10. Michigan State

Our Brendan Quinn has myriad details from Michigan State’s scrimmage against Gonzaga, some good, some not so much. But let’s focus on the positive here: Nick Ward going for 22 and 12 in 27 minutes against the Zags.

19. Michigan

After the spirited run to the national title game and the loss of several key leaders from that roster, Michigan could be accused of being a bit lackadaisical right about now. But rest assured, Zavier Simpson remains angry, and that’s a very good thing for Michigan basketball.

21. Purdue

Carsen Edwards is missing several friends from a team that went 15-3 in the Big Ten a year ago, but we’re guessing he’s good enough, and the rest of the conference just shaky enough, to keep Purdue in the hunt for the league title again.

28. Indiana

There are some legitimate questions about how some of the other pieces on the roster fit, but a two-man game of Juwan Morgan and Romeo Langford is really something, and Archie Miller is the kind of coach who squeezes every bit out of a team.

30. Nebraska

31. Wisconsin

34. Maryland

48. Penn State

Our final at-large spot goes to the team that won the NIT last season, lost star Tony Carr to a pro career and will now lean on Lamar Stevens and Josh Reaves as it attempts to make the leap to the big dance.

Don't see Penn State in front of Minnesota. Maryland and Purdue might be a little high. Don't see anything else that looks out of whack.

I think the one we are going to regret at some point is Brandon Newman. I know Armon Franklin will be a really good combo guard in time, I like his size, and I trust Archie's player development. I just think Newman is the far better shooter and a much better player right now and I hate to lose him to Purdue. That being said it's going to be an interesting battle the next couple of years.

How is Maryland at 34 too high?

I’m ok with it for the most part. I honestly thought Wisconsin was too low by a few spots.

And I said a little high. 34 would imply a 9 seed. I think they will be closer to the bubble.

I have no idea on where he ends up. I wouldn't be surprised by any of the three. I do like this from Corey Evans:

Malik Hall's recruitment has been heavily covered throughout the past few months but things have stalled slightly in recent weeks. Hall will commit on Thursday to Oregon, Michigan Stateor Purdue.

Where might he commit? Michigan State and Purdue offer the closest proximity to Hall while Oregon provides him something entirely different. However, I see Hall remaining in the Midwest and picking Purdue, though this is an entirely a gut selection.

On the other hand, Zeke Nnaji is still in official visit mode and will complete things this weekend as he heads to Purdue. The Boilermakers, while they have not gained most of the talk with the top-40 forward, are a major dark horse and can offer Nnaji a tremendous success rate with their prior bigs and high-end academics.

They are right around 30 in nearly every pre season projection, but you think 34 is too high? God you are a shit poster.

It's an opinion. You of all people should get that people have different opinions.

It certainly isn’t losing when you told them it’s you or the other. Same way IU didn’t lose Aaron Henry after Hunter and Anderson committed

I do agree Newman is good.

So I can’t call you out on your shitty opinion?
Disagree with whatever you want. I'll have the same opinion until the team proves otherwise on the court.

BTW, Purdue is about right where they are ranked by both polls and several national publications and I think they are a little high too. I guess Purdue posters must think I'm a shit poster too. Or maybe they realize it's just an opinion.

They think you're a shit poster but not because of your opinion on Purdue's ranking.

You said Purdue was too high to hedge your hot take and make it seem like your unbiased. I saw right through that ploy.

MSU guys think he is going to Purdue allegedly. Purdue does make all the sense in the world. but I learned not to use rationale when following 17 year old kids pick a college.

I was also way off re: Franklin, but glad we got Newman instead

Didn't they basically use the same pitch on Okoro?

"Hey, you're a forward, so you're Dillon Brooks and will play all three spots."

FWIW Hall was brought up for a minute in chat and they were thinking Purdue still.
