*Official* B1G Off-season Thread

I said in a previous post within the last two hours that Purdue will sneak into the NCAA and Minnesota will be in the NIT because Matt Painter is good for a two game advantage over Dick Pitino.

So I wouldn't bet on Minnesota being ahead of Purdue. Doesn't mean I would take Purdue's roster over Minnesota if I had one constant in a coach.
You could bet him based on player performance rather than team performance.

haha why are you so angry? i said a lot of the same guys, which is true, chill. Murphy's a great player, but I pair Carsen with Haarms/Boudreaux, I'm taking them over Murphy and Coffey. Coffey is soft IMO. Washington shot 42 percent from the floor and 24 percent from 3. He also turned it over quite a bit. Curry is coming off an injury so who knows with him. McBreyer shot 35 percent from the floor as a guard. That's awful. But yeah, our roster isn't great and I don't disagree that we'll probably be a bubble team or a few spots inside it this year. I think Boudreaux's going to be good. I'll take my chances with Carsen and our complementary guys over Minnesota. Want to put a bet on it?

Edit: Washington actually was 36 percent from the floor. Yeesh.
Washington had a rough start to the season last year but got better as the season went on. His shooting percentages were up during conference play and turnovers were down. Over the last 10 games of the season, he averaged 12 and 4 with good shooting numbers.

As far as McBrayer goes, he was playing through a leg injury so he had a dissapointing season. If you look at his Sophomore numbers he is capable of shooting much better than he did last year.

I think the biggest thing for Washington is letting the game come to him. And not having Mason there this year could help him feel more comfortable in doing just that. He obviously came in with the reputation as a great finisher at the rim, but he needs to do a better job picking his spots and being more efficient inside the arc.

This should be an interesting year for you guys. There's plenty of talent on that roster.

Ranking Minnesota ahead of Purdue is interesting, but not outlandish. This may come as a shock to the Boiler folk, but the Gopher roster is better than their own. Fortunately, Matt Painter is probably a two game advantage over Dick Pitino in coaching. Thus I see the Boilers sneaking into the NCAA while NIT games being played at the historic Barn.

Iowa and Osu are probably on the outside looking in, but Holtmann could make lemonade from his lemons.
I don't disagree, at least at this stage. Minnesota has more accomplished B1G-level guys than Purdue entering the season. McBrayer and Coffey are fringe all-B1G guys plus Murphy is a first-teamer. Add in a talented Washington who had an up-and-down freshman season, and you have a roster just talented enough for Little Ricky to screw it up and end up in the NIT.

I think we cut ties and go after Mussleman.

I love Mussleman he has a certain attitude that fits this town and conference. If he goes power 5 and is successful a lot of rival fans and coaches are going to hate him.

What he does works for UNR but not sure it would go over well in a bigger market. He had taken Creaning to a level unseen that the name should be changed.

One could say he has "mussled" out his fair share of players.

I'll show myself out now......

looking at Ken Pom's early predictions on Iowa
13th nationally in offense
35th overall
81st in adjusted in defensive avg

the adjusted defensive avg is quite a jump over last season. its funny reading about all these offensive problems team have.

Iowa will not have those problems as they return 76.9 ppg from a team that avg'd 79.9 ppg.

FR Guard Fredrick had a rib injury from trying to take a charge from Cook, expected him to RS so nothing lost,

biggest gain was Garza was just cleared to practice on the 21st of October. its just a matter of him getting into playing shape.

this year I expect a 10-10 BT record and a 10-1 OOC, after last year a 20 win season will be welcomed.

last season these were the ending numbers
19th adjusted offensive
242 adjusted defense

You mean with the coach who got fired? Sure!

Remind me again how great Indiana was in Tom Crean's final season and Archie Miller's first.

You are playing in the Ivy League first of all. There aren’t any high major prospects there and there win percentage isn’t high. If you have a kid that some are saying could start for a team that will probably finish top 6 in B10....you win more than that. Transfer like this are a huge risk. There have been a ton of kids who average a lot of points, etc. at a smaller schools and go high major and suck. Happens every year in the B10. That’s my point. Sometimes you are just a high scorer on a bad team and you aren’t that great. For example, I like Juwan Morgan but I don’t think he is a number one option. I think he is a better 2nd option. However, he was our number one option for a team that struggled last year. Why? Because he was our best player. Well based on FGA he was option 2....however Johnson is one the most inconsistent players that has aggrevated IU fans for four years.

you've come a long way from the days of predicting an undefeated record at home in conference. respect!
Even though I love picking on Iowa here, I think they're going to be pretty good. Their offense was really good with a young team, it was one of the best in the country. Their D, well we know Incarnate Word could hang 80 on them last year. I think just by being more experienced and stronger they improve their D (God knows it won't be because of Franny), and can be a dangerous team to play... but still wildly inconsistent. I see them as a bubble team though.

But the French isn't looked at to be the #1... so ????

I watched WSG3 last night so maybe I'm just too tired to comprehend whatever tf you're spitting.

I get it tho, you aren't going to think that ol French can do anything well enough at the b1g level. Came from a shit team in a shit league and he's gonna be an integral part of your #1 rival.

If he’s one of their top players I don’t think that’s good for Purdue

Agree but I also thought the pressure on him went up the more they started losing players to injuries and were losing ballgames. Think he’ll do a better job this year. I expect to see some good improvements from him.

The conference will be won by Michigan or Michigan State. Flip a coin on those two.

After that I have no idea. Purdue? Indiana? Nebraska? Those might be separated by strength of schedule and injuries.
I like Michigan and Michigan State and then it's a muddy
Indiana
Purdue
Nebraska
Maryland
Wisconsin
Minnesota
Iowa
for the next 7 spots for me.
Sometimes my favorite basketball is the middle-tier conference-season basketball.
This season the B1g, Big XII and the SEC mid-tier looks to be really, really fun.

That’s how I see it

If he could’ve at least led his team to the NIT or CBI I could’ve seen him play more.
You mean like Markelle Fultz didn’t do but somehow was good enough to be the no.1 draft pick that year? I know I’m going out on a limb when I say this but I think it takes more than one guy to make a good team.

well I'm not that high on Purdue this season, but I think they're much better off with Evan Boudreaux (I'm sure I've butchered that) than without. And I really like that they get him for a second season. If Painter can add a(nother) stud to that '19 class, Purdue/Indiana will must watch for the next handful of years.

Since I work weekends and you don’t, do me some research and come up with a list of mid/low major transfers that came to the B1G. I’ll start it with:

Jaaron Simmons
Bryn Forbes
