*Official* B1G In-Season Thread

I knew this committee sucked a$$ based on their midseason reveal. This was their midseason pairings reveal...

(1) Duke (6) Michigan
(2) Tennessee (7) Carolina
(3) Virginia (5) Kentucky
(4) Gonzaga (8) MSU

I said then that if it plays out just as above, then I would be furious if Michigan earned their spot away from the overall number one but got grouped. Well, it didn't happen to Michigan, but it happened to MSU. MSU was six overall based on comments during the Selection Show. What sort of favor do you think that you are giving them? And for that matter it hurts Duke too.

With that said, Zags and Duke are very close on Kenpom (and keep it mind it was back/forth game in Maui) so it could be somewhat moot.

On the other hand Hollis was able to nicely get MSU in the same region as Virginia for three straight seasons which I can nearly guarantee was a function of Izzo knowing the Cavs aren't built for March. So maybe it is a bit of karma for MSU from getting the soft landing in years past.....

I absolutely hate the fact that the Selection Committee has decided it would be a cool idea if MSU and Minnesota met in round of 32 game.

Too lazy to flip the Gophers with Seton Hall, I guess.

MSU definitely got hosed by being Duke's 2 but assuming it meant MSU was the 8 was the overreaction. On the flip side, having LSU as your 3 is a windfall given their present situation. Totals for the 4 regions according to the S-curve:

32 Midwest UNC 3, UK 7, Houston 9, Kansas 13
34 East - Duke 1, MSU 6, LSU 11, Va Tech 16
34 South - Virginia 2, Tennessee 5, Purdue 12, KSU 15
36 West - Gonzaga 4, Michigan 8, Texas Tech 10, FSU 14

can't find the day that Iowa plays on. please help also there is no reason to have 3 BT teams in the same region. its not like they got 10 teams in

I have zero interest in going back to look it up, but my biased memory remembers MSU being in the toughest bracket more often than not. I don't remember more than a year or two over the last two+ decades where I thought to myself we got the "easy" draw.

Seems like every single year the committee talks about MSU having the toughest path, or getting ****ed over and being underseeded.

Iowa was closer to the bubble than I thought. Without Wieskamp’s 3 vs Rutgers or if we lost to Illinois in the BTT we could be an 11. Add in miracle comeback vs NW and we would be out or in Dayton

you have to win them all to reach the FF. catching Duke is a bad draw no doubt but get by them and the rest of the way is down hill,

#14 Old Dominion vs #3 Purdue
#15 Montana vs #2 Michigan
#15 Bradley vs #2 MSU
#10 Minnesota vs #7 Louisville
#11 St. Johns/ASU vs #6 Maryland
#10 Iowa vs #7 Cincinnati
#12 Oregon vs #5 Wisconsin
#11 Ohio State vs #6 Iowa State
that's a weird matchup for michigan. played montana in the first round last year

How much Rick is gonna help Jr. win their game vs Louisville?

Minnesota may be the only B1G team I don't think wins their opener. Wisky game is a bit scary too. Iowa is better than Cincy imo.

I get MSU fans being ticked about Duke bracket, but I'd much rather play winner of Minny/UL than winner Nev/UF. And I'd MUCH rather have LSU as a 3 seed than Texas Tech. TT is good. I think they may take that side.

the key is to limit Cumberland and make him try to beat you, their biggest player is 6'11 240 lbs with limited range, this can work in favor of Garza who can pull him away from the Basket. their next biggest is 6'9 225 lbs, so there will be very little physical play as Cook is 6'9 250 lbs.

this is the type of game where Cook can dominate down low, the matchups are very interesting now that I have learned more about them, I see 6'5 Moss getting the job of guarding 6'5 Cumberland.

One other note on Michigan State's seed. Mark Few was on ESPN a half hour ago and he briefly noted playing MSU back in the fall in a scrimmage. IIRC word was that Gonzaga handled MSU quite easily.

Now Izzo may have been toying with lineups and obviously teams are different over four months later, but just saying maybe Duke is the better matchup for MSU in a regional final.

No, a fully loaded Duke is easily the best team in the country. There is no way MSU is better off being in their region instead of Gonzaga.
