*Official* B1G In-Season Thread

I don't have time to do the full research but I'm pretty confident in saying that if you ranked the starting lineups for the last ten years for MSU, Michigan and Purdue by average 247 composite ranking, Purdue would be 3rd by a decent amount.

Using star rankings is flawed because there can be a pretty big disparity between the 30th ranked 4 star and the 120th ranked 4 star.

Just quickly, in the last decade according to 247 Sports:

Top 25 commits
Purdue - 1
MSU - 7
Michigan - 1

Top 50 commits
Purdue - 1
MSU - 11
Michigan - 6

Top 100 commits
Purdue - 8
MSU - 20
Michigan - 13

Except that Beilein has accomplished more.
Painter accomplishing less with less talent doesn't make him a better coach.
NCAA's only. In conference Painter has done more. The grind of a season is much more telling than the results of a one and done tournament. Especially considering Purdue's bad luck with injuries right before the tournament.

I’d argue 90% of the board is a case study in Dunning Kruger, definitely not limited to Purdue fans. MJ is off the rails tho, no doubt
That's probably accurate. The problem with this board is that the shitty posters start coming out of the woodwork when their teams are successful. It's why the Purdue guys are annoying right now, in general. Not all of you are bad, and some are high quality posters. It's just a loud group of bad ones.

Good point. Like the SEC fans on the MB (not sure if you post there, I haven’t much the last few years)

You'd think Painter could take some lessons from Brohm though. Brohm has made Purdue football pretty cool in a short period of time.
Yes, but that's to basically get to Painter's level. He's yet to have a top 25 class.

Last year Michigan won 34 games with a Big Ten title and made the national championship game. If we are just talking about rankings....

Abdur-Rahkman was an unranked 3 star.

Duncan Robinson doesn’t even have a Rivals page.

Isaiah Livers was a 3* (137th).

Jon Teske was outside the top 100 (108th)

Jaaron Simmons was an unranked 3*.

We only had 3 rotation players in the top 100 and they were Simpson (65), Matthews (48), and Wagner (unranked because he’s foreign but a 4*).

Sorry I used Gil’s template to format this.
Poole was a 4* as well (106). Regardless this seems like a silly argument and I think recently Beilein has been the best developer of talent in the B1G.

Results are the results. There are no asterisks. Izzo and Beilein have dealt with injuries as well.
Then you shouldn't be throwing around excuses for IU. You were just saying "context matters" the other day when talking about IU injuries.
I think you can be very fair when you aren't all fired up.......but you contradict yourself all the time depending on how angry you are or which team you're talking about.

MUCH easier to land a top 25 class at Purdue in basketball than football IMO. Indiana is a hotbed for basketball for recruiting plus Purdue is a good program (borderline top 25 historically). Football talent in the state isn't nearly as good overall as it is in football. Purdue football historically is a .500 program. The fact Brohm brought in a top 25 class so quickly was more than impressive.

I just go to tMB when I want to flame some dummies. It's not a place for smart people. I guess that may something about me.

I've run the numbers and basically proved that in the AAU era, where the talent is is largely irrelevant.

If Indiana is a tournament team, then we must be talking NIT. What a terribky coached team they are.

Archie Miller is up there with Pat Chambers and Fran McCafrey when it comes to worst coaches in the league

About to be a couple rough days on the IU board as IU will lose this game and Brooks to UK tomorrow.

Yeah gonna stay away from the place. Good thing my subscription isn't renewing in a few weeks.

It would be so funny if IU made the tournament and made it farther than Purdue... wait.
