*Official* B1G In-Season Thread

Have you watched any of the talking heads? Notre Dame was picked to lose all year, all anyone heard was "they don't belong." When they won it was, "they were overrated anyway."

We lost to one of the 2 best teams in the country today, sure it hurts but it was still a great season. Only one team can win it all and Notre Dame was in the final 4. That's all you can really ask for while fighting an uphill battle academically against the likes of NFL factories like Bama and Clemson.

You’re fvcking higher then @Jaycg15

Notre Dame has at least gotten to the CFP. So has MSU.

Michigan still hasn’t gotten to the Big Ten Championship game, much less CFP.

Hoke got to a BCS in his first year at Michigan. It took Dino seven years to find that land at MSU. Skewed stats are fun.

That's great that MSU has a college football playoff bid. It doesn't erase the stench of the last three years.

Have fun with MSU football moving forward. I don't know if Michigan will reach the promised land. I know MSU won't.

Do you realize how much you sound like a Purdue fan?

To the being an underdog to winning with nothing to show for it to bitching about academics.

Remind me the next time Purdue makes a final 4 in either sport, let alone wins 12 games in a football season.

Also comparing Purdue's academics to Notre Dame's lol Notre Dame owns Purdue, they aren't even on the same spectrum.

Notre Dame played a weak ass schedule, not their fault because normally it would be a solid schedule, but they were nothing but fools gold.

UM football just has not been better than MSU recently.

MSU has won 8-11 with worse recruiting classes every single year.

Saying UM has not gotten to the Big Ten Championship or the CFP aren’t skewed stats. Those are facts. UM football isn’t winning big games. At all. They are an extremely overhyped program right now.

I realize that MSU will probably not win the CFP anytime soon, as we just don’t bring in good enough recruiting classes. Michigan consistently brings in top classes and consistently flops with them. It’s kinda funny.

I don't disagree, but winning 12-13 is a good season no matter what way you look at it. Yeah I'm disappointed, but they got beat by a better team with a better coach. Nobody expected Notre Dame to win the playoff coming in and neither did I.

Georgia and OSU would beat Notre Dame head to head this year.
Georgia for sure, but any team that gets beat 49-20 by 6-7 Purdue isn't guaranteed to beat anyone.

By the way OSU's last playoff appearance wasn't pretty either. Clemson beat them 34-0.

Word!

“No no it’s safe...I’d never go up there but you better film our god damn practice”

It looked safe

Oh. For FFS. The window of argument is always 11 years. Never 12 years when Dantonio started or four when Harbaugh rolled in, but 11.

I will reiterate that I am none too happy with Harbaugh, but the Hoke/Rod eras are gone, way in the past. That's nice that 2010 or 2013 went MSU's way. All that really matters at this point is Harbaugh and Mike D'antoni.

If folks were buying stock at equal price, nobody would buy MSU ahead of Michigan. Those MSU accolades of a few years ago are becoming more and more in the past (and no, a Holiday Bowl win is not an accolade).

Tell me you’re not bragging about academics at a school you didn’t even attend.

Harbaugh is now 1-9 against top ten oppobents as a UM head coach. Nice.

I'm not bragging about it, it's a fact. I applied, I didn't get into Notre Dame, neither did my buddy who had a GPA over 4.0. I at no point bragged, I actually think they need lower the academics for their sports teams if they ever want to be a true national power again.

If you think they hold their athletes to the same standard as the general student populace, then it's apparent why you weren't accepted. ND has no issue admitting the players they want.

I didn't say that it was the same, I was just explaining why I didn't go to Notre Dame and how hard it is for the casual student from Indiana. Where did I say it was exactly the same for athletes?

That being said, if you can't see the difference between athletes at Clemson, Georgia, Alabama...and Notre Dame then I don't know what to tell you. There is a big portion of the top 300 that Notre Dame just can't recruit and it's obvious to the naked eye when watching them play against these teams.

Tony Rice says hello.

Everyone knows they upped the academic standards in the mid 90s, making it much harder for Holtz to get the players he wanted into school. It was one of the major reasons he left. It's almost like you're comparing 2 different programs.

Since 1998 Notre Dame is 0-6 in major bowl games with a lot of them being blowouts. That doesn't just happen, they simply can't recruit at the level it takes to compete with those teams and it's pretty obvious. If they every want to win a national title again they need to lower the standards to even the playing field. Until they do, years like this will be their ceiling and considered a good year.

My wife has a friend that is stupid weird smart that went to Notre Dame and makes a lot less money than us and is going nowhere in life while having substatinial student loans . Hope this helps.

Not sure what this has to do with the academic requirements for athletes? I am glad you got that off your chest though.

The person I’m referring to could have went to IU or Purdue on a full academic scholarship. Instead she chose to go to Notre Dame, owes a lot of money and is clinically depressed. For real, one of the worst decisions of her life.
I know someone like that who went to Harvard. Not really a surprise that type of stuff happens and it happens at all kinds of schools.

It has absolutely nothing to do with anything, I thought that was the point of this thread?
Touche'

It happens at every school though, you have to really think about which major you pick as well and what future job title can come from it. I'm not putting down Purdue either as they are a very good school. I'm comparing Notre Dame to schools like Alabama and Clemson where they simply can't get the same players into school that those schools can. That's why they're pretty much NFL factories.

Until Notre Dame lowers the standards, years like this will be the ceiling. Win out the regular season playing decent teams, and get blown out by the elites in the playoff. That's why with where the program is currently at, this has to be considered a great season.

the true measure of a schools academics for sports is the number of Academic AA's, I don't read to much about how many Academic AA's out of Clemson or Alabama.

a thought on the Michigan game the lack of their top players is what led to the 2nd half beat down. the 1st Half the score was 13-10 Florida. the backups just got worn out.

Academic All-American lists are heavily impacted by grade inflation differences across schools so I'm not sure it's a great barometer either.

Colts 5:15pm win to get in...it’s going to be a long day!
Where you live? Gane is at 8;20 here. Pumped for this one. I like the Colts chances. Just as long as they dont pull a "Jacksonville". Man does that game hurt.
