I know you guys have a small, alumni-only fan base … but it’s normal for a lot of us to have gone to college somewhere else and still cheer for our state school that we rooted for growing up. :)

Idk if small is the right word. I think our fanbase is pretty solid especially for not being the state school.

Half the stores still require masks. So does the arena, even though they also require proof of vaccination. We had fun visiting. Living?
Fair enough. We’ve even totally ditched that shit in Chicago, even the weirder co-op type grocery stores. University towns are honestly just bizarre places in that respect.

Oh, I think your fan base is 11/10. But I do think, in a pure numbers sense, it’s probably slightly smaller than the big flagship schools. Which isn’t bad, as Purdue fans on average seem way smarter and more passionate than some of the bandwagon social media ******s schools like Illinois pick up when we’re good again.

Sure? Lol. If your school’s fan base is entirely alumni, you simply don’t have that many fans. Congrats on your exclusivity? Would have cost me literally $25k more to go to Illinois out-of-state compared to where I went. Don’t regret it for a second! College SPORTS aren’t about where you took Rhetoric for a lot of us.

Yeah it’s all relative. Compared to osu and Michigan we are small. Compared to wake forest and Vanderbilt we are pretty big.

Michigan literally didn’t and doesn’t have my degree

The county got rid of the mask bullshit March 1st but you still had to wear them at the kohl center because of the university. At least half took them off once inside so it wasn’t bad but universities are stupid with it. Too many libs afraid of their own shadows.

Thought it was a slight at Hail, as I believe it’s well known he’s a non-alum fan (EMU, IIRC?). As another non-alumni Illini fan, I stuck up for him. If it was in good faith, all good and my bad!

Nah, definitely trying to take a personal shot at me. All while complaining about my trolling. It’s all good. Ferris sucks but I had a blast there and my degree has treated me well.

I don't get the alum, vs non-alum thingy...I attend USI----D2 school in Evansville. Been a Hoosier fan my entire life....You(not you literally) gonna tell me that some dude from Cali, who attends IU, is "more of a fan" than me?

Naaaah.....****, that.

Preaching to the choir here! Going to U of I was simply a bad decision for me, all things considered. I’m a fan literally because I’m from Illinois, and that’s not uncommon.

The non alum thing always cracks me up. You never see some dude at a tiny school like Oregon State or Wake Forest. They always like Michigan, Duke, Notre Dame, or some trendy school. They’re mostly a bunch of losers that couldn’t go to those places. That’s the way it’s always been and always will be.

Head-to-head wins on the season:
Iowa 2
Indiana 0

End-of-season results:

Iowa NCAA 1st Round
Indiana NCAA 1st Round

Conclusion:

Iowa > Indiana

When more comes in, I'll let you know........
Iowa once again choking in the 1st round.....

2 seed last year---NPOY---ass raped by 7 seed in 2nd round..
5 seed this year---NPOY candidate----ass raped by a 12 seed..

Again, 2022 NCAAT wins: IU 1 Iowa 0.....

You think b/c someone attended said school, it makes them more of a fan? Maybe the dude attending the tiny school, i.e. Wake, grew up in North Carolina, mom/dad went there, big fans, so he grows up a fan, but goes to school somewhere else?

I'm not an alum of IU.....But I assure you some dude from India who's an IU graduate, isn't more of a fan than someone who grew up 1 hour from the campus...

Its silly...

Why do you care who people root for? Being an Alabama fan in NJ is not the same as being a non-alum Wisconsin fan who grew up in Milwaukee. The attitude you should only cheer for the team of the school you attended is, again, only an attitude prevalent among fans of the decidedly less popular team in their state, without fail.

I can see being a Duke alum feeling this way, I guess … not so much for MSU, lol.

We aren’t the NCAA. By this thread’s rule.

👎🏻 Zero wins in the tournament, but congrats on the play-in win!
**** the board rule as well.....In the "Book of Borden", not to be confused with "The Book of Eli", but close, tis is an NCAAT win....

Either way, Iowa once again choked on a bucket of pig dicks as a Top 5 seed....

It probably sounds elitist but I lived in the dorms, went to the same class rooms, partied off campus, met lifelong friends, own the degree. Yeah, I’m more connected to MSU than a non alum sports fan.

I don’t think he’s saying that people who attended a school can’t be more connected to their sports team. He’s saying it’s not an automatic trump card. I have to dumb my basketball talk down to a bunch of Michigan and MSU alum alike. They simply don’t follow the sport like many of us do. When I know more about MSU basketball than an MSU alum, I don’t take their “you can’t cheer for Michigan!” stuff seriously.
