Honestly, you probably should have pulled your starters at the end of the Illinois game instead of playing them until the final whistle. It’s not like that game was in doubt and it would have given them a bit more rest.
i thought it was strange how soon Underwood pulled his starters. We were up by 13 with 1:26 left. Has he seen us try to break a press?

While disappointing last nights loss wasn’t very traumatic personally. The variance game to game is fairly dramatic in CBB. I’ve also been prepped by 45 years of watching Purdue. Love this teams upside and well aware how quickly it can go poof. UM sure as hell deserved that win.

What a surprise. The most insecure fanbase in the conference is freaking out over last night. I guess 1980 can really mess with the head.

All that should matter for Purdue is finally getting to a F4 instead of freaking out over a Big Ten race. There are countless minor scheduling advantages all throughout the league every year.

Game last night reminded me of last year when MSU unexpectedly defeated Illinois soundly when desperation was present.
You realize when you say fanbase, you really mean one emotional midget, right? I don't see an entire fanbase being irrational. I don't think @boiler1987's schedule argument holds much water but other than that, I haven't seen anyone other than our resident Snu losing his shit.

As I said last night, I'm here to give a few thoughts on a disappointing outcome and experience.

On the game:
  • We seemed a step slow all night
  • Obviously the early fouls on Edey disrupted our plan significantly. I haven't rewatched to know if they were legit but they seemed weak live.
  • Obviously Dickinson got his but I think the early energy from Diabate was the key to the game. Jones did a lot of damage early too. And if I remember correctly, it was Brooks blew the game open with a quick 8 point burst in the 2nd half.
  • Diabate is a physical specimen
  • If I was a Michigan fan, I'd be incredibly frustrated by Houstan. Way too much potential to be as inconsistent as he is
  • How did team get punked by UCF and UNC and lose by double digits at home to Minnesota?
  • Purdue is who it is defensively. Has been all year. That's why I started the year thinking we are in the 9-12 range (and got dogged by our own fans). Can it make a Final Four? Of course. But it can also get eliminated in the Sweet 16 if the shots aren't falling and there are quick whistles on our bigs.

As mentioned, I sat front row at the corner of the court and end of Purdue bench. It was also between 2 sections of the Maize Rage. I sat right next to the guys in the cow costumes. One of them was the most comically bad heckler I've ever heard that I thought it might be a schtick. But as the game wore on, I realized he's really just Michigan's version of Trojan.

On the environment:
  • Sitting that close to the basket, it's easy to see how inconsistent the officiating is from possession to possession. This isn't complaining about the officiating as in the moment, I have no idea if it was called fairly overall or not. It's just a comment on how inconsistent it is. Has to be really frustrating for the players and coaches.
  • On that note tho (and I think I mentioned this after sitting behind the scorer's table at PSU), shoutout to @IUfanBorden and all other refs. These dudes are so fast and strong and the action is so phrenetic that it's no wonder calls are missed.
  • Disappointed for Juwan that a fanbase that is so passionate for football can't bother to show up to a basketball game against the #3 team in the country. I doubt there were more than 6K people there at tip and no more than 9K people there overall. I'm not talking about tix sold. I'm talking about butts in seats. Yes, the team is underperforming this year but they are one year removed from a B1G championship.
  • On that note, I think I've now been to 7 B1G venues and the Maize Rage is by far the most poorly organized and engaged that I've seen. Even Penn State's was better. It was interesting sitting between the two sections.
  • One of the funniest things I've ever heard a student section do was when they started chanting "Overrated" to Ivey in the first half when he already had 11 points. Pretty dumb!
  • Chrisler Center is a nice venue and there is no reason why it's not rocking night in and night out

PS - Went to Homes Brewing before game to suck down some beer and pick up some Smooj. The beer is great and the Gogi Burrito is legit!!

Our fanbase is a joke no doubt but I wanna just say one thing . You are forced to show a Vaxx card and demanded to wear a mask . They are Nazis about mask in Crisler it’s ridiculous and I know a shit ton of people that refuse to go

Fvck that

Yeah, Purdue doesn't require the vaxx card (which is no big deal as a picture was fine and Michigan didn't even check it against an ID). But Purdue is still doing the mask shit. I think it's hilarious that you have to wear a mask unless you are actively eating or drinking. So, can you not give someone COVID if you are eating or drinking? Of course you can. But they want to protect that concession revenue.

Our basketball fanbase has always been a joke . Even when Beilein had us on the top winning 30 games there were still empty seats . It’s was infuriating to me .

Also the Maize Rage is by far the worst in the conference. Only time they were cool was when Stauskas was balling .

My buddy went to a game this year and the Usher checked him 5 times on wearing his mask . Pathetic

How strict were the mask nazis?

Worth sitting in row 1 as opposed to a discount a few rows back?

Would you rather be in the corner row 1 (where you were) or sideline row 8?

Which is why I take zero offense to the “you didn’t even go to Michigan” crew. I promise you that “Walmart Wolverines” fans aren’t as jealous of alumni as people think.

I just left mine on since it seemed everyone else did.

Row 1 is cool but the one issue was one of the cheerleaders was blocking my view so I had to keep adjusting side to side. Of course, I remember a day when I'd have considered that a positive and not a negative. :)

Corner is cool obviously when the play is on your end but sideline is a better view of both ends. I'd probably lean sideline.

Thanks. I’ve never been to Crisler. Been to United Center twice. Kohl Center twice. And two different arenas for Northwestern. We are going for a week next week and I told my wife we’d sit as close as the guards will let us for atleast one game. Nice to know that you’d pick row 8 sideline there be corner.

Maize rage is a horrible name for a student section.

The kid on camera last night readjusting his mask 3 times to make sure his nose was under it got a laugh out of me.

Why they still have usher checking on masks is nuts

We have mask nazis at the kohl center still too. It’s a ****ing joke.

Officiating can be inconsistent---and at times, is....But as you mentioned---the game is so fast, physical, strong dudes, that its easy to miss something. THe pace at times.....Unless you have experienced it, its justimpossible to understand how difficult it can be...

As for coaches/players----they get it----a lot more than the fans. And if you talk to them, most of the time they'll just shake their head, and just move on. Something I learned over the years though----don't try an BS a coach...Tell them what you saw...Or tell them, "Hey, look, Matt---I fukin' missed it." Nothing pisses a coach off more than trying to BS him...

I wouldn't say drawing conclusions but it's a chink in the armor, no racist. Kinda like seeing a hot chick at a bar at 2am but you notice she keeps adjusting her junk, at that point you start to think maybe things aren't quite what they seem.
It's definitely not ideal, but it's reassuring to know that we still have a shot. A team like LSU, though, probably not going to go far in March with an awful offense

I wouldn’t take anything away from last night as a Purdue fan. That is the best game our starting lineup has played all season. That team we saw last night is a top 5 team in the county. When the shots are dropping and spacing is there our offense is elite. We just look like a sub 100 team other nights to offset it.

Yeah but how is your dog doing?

Now that the sting of the loss has worn off, I have a very important question to ask:
Why does Hunter Dickinson run like he's got a dildo stuck in his ass?
I’ve always had this question about Mahomes. You ever see that guy walk to the sidelines on a timeout. My hatred for him has absolutely nothing to do with this speculation btw fwiw

Have a game @ 4:30, so won't be here for IU's win today....

Hoosiers by 10....

Suck my ass Sparty...
