30-35 IMO, you don’t have to agree with my opinion. Just like I don’t have to agree with every professionals opinion.

I laughed at Landers ranking when he reclassified, and Im sure you would’ve had the same emotional response to my thoughts on him as well.

And yes, Underwood is. I don’t think he is “in love” with any of the recruits we were after other than Boswell and JJ Taylor (who won’t go to college due to grades, unfortunately). I honestly don’t know if he would take a commitment from any of our other targets at this point… Maybe Asa Thomas or Akil Watson, but I don’t even know there.
I thought it was odd that Lander stayed in the top 30 after reclassifying. Reclassifying UP has proven to be low success.

JHS is not close to the same as Lander. He is stronger already. He’s 6’5”, so physically he’s a better match for the Big Ten. Lander put up good numbers against a weak competition. JHS is putting up good numbers against elite competition for the high school level.

So Underwood is just going to take no recruits in 2023? Why doesn’t he get out there and find some guys he would “take”?

Agreed on the first point.

He’s putting up good numbers but is surrounded by what is arguably the best roster in HS. That’s can hide weaknesses.

I still think he’s a very good player. Top 30-35 is the same range Ayo was in coming into college.

And I’m assuming Underwood is, but why rush the process? He doesn’t know what his roster is going to (roughly) look like until this summer after the transfer portal. There will be kids wanting to for Illinois, but now we can afford to be more picky.

He is playing on a loaded roster, but also playing against loaded rosters. By Christmas he had already faced off against 6 5* PGs.

It’s a bold strategy to hold off on recruiting hard. Especially given what you will be losing this off-season.

Has he been shooting well from 3? At Montverde you’d think they have individual stats totals out there, but I haven’t been able to find any.

We will add 3 recruits this off-season and most likely a transfer (or 2 but that’ll be balanced by one unexpected transfer out as well)

I think it’s a smart gamble given if much you miss on those top targets it’s easier to reload with current transfer rules. 1 class isn’t going to sink a team, multiple stacked in a row is when it causes problems

Its just my opinion....Coaches son, who seemingly always makes the right pass, play, doesn't get himself in toruble...Its a subjective opinion, and not a slight----Hell for all I know, Morton might be a fukin basketball genius---I dunno. What I have seen, I just feel Trey's "feel" for the game, always seemingly being whre he needs to be---seeing shit develop well before others....

I just thnk thats one of ZTrey's biggest strengths...
It’s definitely one of Morton’s as well.

Last I saw he was around 30% for the year. Does Curbelo shoot well from 3?

You think getting multiple stacked classes in a row HURTS a team? Lol okay agree to disagree.

Reading this, your a dude I'd love to talk with , here some stories, etc, etc....I think I recall you telling me before your dad was an official....Did he ever work college ball, or just strictly HS?

I like Painter----always have. He's been snake bitten in terms of making a FF, or even possibly winning a Natty. He has one hell of a team this year, and is slowly/methodically building a "monster: so to speak over the next few years. Had some hiccup seasons between the Elite 8 team, and last year of course. BUT, his teams are damn near always a facotr in the B10; I believe only he's only finished outside the Top 4 of the conference 5 times? Really he's just missing some March success---but that is slowly starting to come-- 3 SW 16's and Elite 8 past 5 seasons... ANd TBH, I think there is one stretch that may have gotten his ass in hot water at Indiana----2012/2015---tough stretch there. That 16-18 and 15-17 seasons in succession may have been his undoing if at Indiana....But who knows.

And you are right---Painter loved Knight and IU----big fan. But never got an offer. BUt in fairness, that was an era where Indiana was really, really good, and extremely strong at this position...

I love the rivalry....Love the game.....And love it when the games are competitive....But I also like the occasional 97-60 ass whooping as well....Best times of this rivalry where, and probably always will be Knight/Keady. BUT, you can see it maybe getting close with Woody----Sit is personal with him, and he gets it.

BTW----$%^%$ Purdue...
He reffed HS football, baseball and did some small college bball e.g Franklin. His team also won the Co- Rec championship at Purdue and the Washington State AAU bball championship - he was an engineer at Boeing in Seattle. Dude was a baller.

When it gets closer we should have a meet up with anyone who’s gonna be in Indy for the tourney. I’m close by so easy for me to pop over for a beer.

When you say "main dude", do you mean that you think he will be the best player on their team? No he won't lol.

If he’s not the best player, he’ll be one of the best IMO. Don’t know why that’s a crazy thing to say lol.

1. Even on the current team he would be behind KJ Evans and Derik Queen as far as best player is concerned.

2. Montverde will completely reload their roster in the offseason like they always do. They will bring in some more top players from the Senior class.

I expect him to have a big impact on their team next year. Not sure how the final rankings will play out because of his injury but he’s top 50 at worst IMO.

He will be one of the lowest ranked players on their team. That isn't saying anything against him, it just speaks to the kind of talent Montverde gets.

Their current team has the following (247 composite):

2022

Whitehead - #6 - Duke
Mitchell - #14 - Texas
JHS - #21 - IU
Vince (not spelling his last name) - #26 - USC
Clark - #27 - UK
Reneau - #28 - Florida

2023

Evans - #2 -
DGL - #70 - Purdue

2024

Queen - No 24' rankings but projects to be a 5*
Ali - No 24' rankings but projects to be a 5*

I think the 70 is due to his ranking from ESPN which is not one most people even look at lol. He’s 31 on 247 and 39 on rivals but point taken re Montverde’s roster.

It’s definitely due to his ESPN ranking. Again, not saying he won’t be good or isn’t a good player, but that roster is typically loaded. I don’t think Jakai Newton would be a main player for Montverde either, so it’s not a Purdue/IU bias thing.

Sorry, you couldn't think your way out of a wet paper sack. You don't get to use the term Gillinois when you're clearly Indiana's Gil.
I can and will use the term Gillinois. Illinois has multiple Gils, so it’s more of a blanket term when describing your fanbase.

Damn, Minneapolis Police just can't stay out of the news, lol. Ben Crump is back in town!!!!!! Minneapolis about to have to settle another multimillion Dollar lawsuit. 😂

You're quite literally the least-respected poster in this thread, and that's saying something.

Curbelo has blazing speed and even then it’s still caused issues with spacing occasionally.

I should’ve been more clear, stacking multiple classes that you miss on all your top targets is when it can hurt for a program.

And JHS has a huge frame for a PG. That spacing will only get worse with Rodgers at the 4 instead of Grandison.

So don’t miss on all of your top targets…

How will another big frame point guard with a questionable outside shot work alongside XJ?

Our spacing will be just fine. We play Curbelo, Hawkins, and Damonte Williams currently. None of which are plus shooters.

Lol I’m sure Underwood is thinking the same.

Why are you saying alongside XJ? One of them will start. The other will come off the bench.

That’s what IU fans thought during the Cody Zeller years. Kofi is your Cody Zeller. Well except for the fact that we actually won the Big Ten and made two S16s with Zeller.
Aight, buddy. More often than not, in modern history, we’ve been pretty darn good at basketball. And we are good right now. If you must maintain we are ~about to suck~ I guess it’s humane of me to let you have that.

For those of us that are too young to remember, can you remind us the year Illinois last made the Sweet 16?
