This is not about a denied redshirt (dude played at least 30 games all 4 years). He just wants another year to make bank since there's not really a market for guards his size at the next level. I can't say I blame him there. I'd likely do the same. I'm guessing he wins and the NCAA is once again shown to be the sham organization that it is.

The dad outcome in all of this is the record books will forever have an asterisk with dudes playing 170+ games. I guess this is what people felt like in the 70's when they changed the rules to allow freshmen to play.

The other byproduct if this does pass is you'll end up with up to 15-20% less people being given a college scholarship because "student" athletes will hold them for 5 years the vast majority of the time instead of the current guys who had to use a redshirt year. This is all good news for the guys who will still be good enough to earn a scholarship but those that were fringe will be shit out of luck.

Tbf, Chad Baker Mazara will be playing next year and he's basically a geriatric at this point. But yeah, pretty dumb. These dudes need to move on and quit trying to play ball against teenagers. Go to Europe or China or something. Your time is up.
issue is that they can get more from NIL then overseasand they get to stay in the US. i will take a 6th year proven experienced dude likely over all but about 15 freshmen each season.

I mean theoretically there is an issue in that if you get red shirted you can get paid for 5 years of playing. So if you never get the chance to redshirt you could theoretically lose one years worth of pay. Thing is this is not likely to happen much. Teams aren't going to pay kids a lot that they don't plan to play, so it's basically if you get injured you could get payed for one extra year type deal.

Imagine kids begging for a redshirt year to get that extra bit of pay. Coach please redshirt me! So in the end I guess Ziegler is saying he got financially punished for playing right away and for never getting injured?

Man we had Clayton at the right time. Right before teams went batshit. You imagine how much teams would have been willing to pay to steal him from us?

Chad Baker Mazara's nickname should be 'Herpes' at this point. He just keeps coming back.

So what? He will either win his case or won't based on the new way of CBB.

It's actually an interesting topic. No dog in the fight. There are a lot of rules just universally accepted maybe because they are ingrained, but some could be antiquated. Nothing wrong with a standard 4-yr rule. Many students don't graduate within the 4 years. Schools still readily accept their tuition. If the concept was to mirror that of the "ordinary" student, then is an extra yr or two a big deal? I know a Q then delves into, what if they want 9 yrs, etc. Maybe the bar should be cut at age 24, or 25.

I’m actually okay with a 5th year. I roomed with a track & field athlete in college and it took him 5 years to graduate because of the workload of the sport v class time. Many of us worked part time in college, but I’d call what he was doing more of a full time job on top of the class work.

The rules change every other day regarding College athletics. I don't blame Zakai for attempting to cash in on another year. It is a little gratifying to know UK invented the one and get the hell out of there and UT is trying to invent the four and a little bit more. One just seems more family like.

It took me a lot of years because of the load of pretty girls. Damn they certainly interfere with studies.
