Nolan Smith leaving Duke to be main assistant at Louisville

You guys can embrace sore losers and bad sports all you want. I wasn’t talking about what Duke fans think.

I know there is one particular recruit and his parents who may have cared about it a little bit.
What did he do? Im a louisville fan and hadnt heard about whatever.

So are we now saying Nolan was a drag on the Duke program? Why haven't we heard these things until now?

I love these message boards. That "people I know and talk with" sample size for sure holds up.

Almost nobody who has paid ANY attention to Duke basketball thinks that. Jim Sumner, Adam Rowe, John Watson, the DBR crew, Mike Corey, the late Al Featherstone, Jay Bilas, Barry Jacobs... all folks who are pretty connected with the program... all of them have spoken glowingly of Nolan over the years, as have MANY players, including players not at Duke.

Anyone saying that I suspect either A) is trying to make it sound okay or B) don't really know.

I feel it’s mutual beneficial for two reasons-

1. jon can bring in an older more experienced assistant to help in the beginning. He’ll have a clean slate to pick and choose exactly what he wants.
Jon could have replaced himself with a more experienced assistant.

I think it was a handshake blowby? I think? I mean, I watched and I'm not even sure if that was it... I know that there was some handshake blowby, but I thought it was Carawell? Maybe it was Smith too.

But listen, honestly, I don't think anyone is really that upset. Guy was pissed at what he thought were slights and did something in response. It was probably a dumb thing to do, but a handshake blowby at a moment like that... hardly some moment of OMG judgment of character that would turn lots of people against him?

I mean, UNC fans might think so, and I think Corey is pretty quick to go after Duke but... that's natural, I think.

Sore losers. What a pussy statement. Show the video that had your panties all in a bunch.

That is because Cory never played a sport in his life.

I don't think losing Nolan hurts you guys too much. But it could. Jon has never hired anyone now he gets to make two hires instead of one.

Jon and CC are obviously very well liked in the industry. So is Nolan.

Him and Scheyer were assistants within 3 years after playing at Duke. Plus SIngler flamed out in NBA. That 2010 Duke team was the weakest champ ever. Scheyer and Nolan couldn't even make overseas money

That's a crazy bad take.

The 2010 Duke title time was a beast. VETERAN veteran players, incredible defense, three All-Americans, a future All-American and NPOY candidate, seven future NBA players, a seven one monster center playing the best ball of his lifetime who had a cup of coffee in the League... oh, and a Curry to play against in practice. That team would have beaten at least half of the champs over the last twenty years, including the Kansas team that won it this year.

And Jon Scheyer didn't play because his eyeball got knocked out of his skull in his second ever pro game and he was nearly blinded. In his ONE pro grame, he hit the game winner.

I literally don't understand how some folks don't understand that team. It shows a fundamental lack of understanding of what it takes to win in basketball, and how teams function beyond "OMG THAT GUY IS A SUPERSTAR!"

Wow. That is paying up. That's about what Payne was making at UK.
Only place I’ve seen that is from the publisher on the Duke premium board, so take it for what it’s worth. But yeah, can’t blame him for taking that payday

You do realize Scheyer sustained an eye injury that forced his retirement right?

Exactly. Maybe they had too many white guys. That seems to trigger some in the hoops world.

One AC refused to shake with Hubert and Smith turned his head away when he did. Then when they realized they were getting ripped they fabricated some story about Hubert slighting K or something before the game, which video evidence showed was a lie. So they said it was because he didn’t shake with them before the game which is dumb. He shook with K and then got out of the way since they had the whole day of celebration set up, which was what he should have done.

It was because UNC didn’t honor K as much as they wanted them to when they played at UNC. Talk about super lame on their part.

Regardless of what Dude says there is no debate they both intentionally acted the way they did in the line. Just own it.

No one is worked up about it though. It’s just something in the rivalry to discuss that illustrates the difference in the two programs. I talked plenty of crap playing sports but when it was over I could handle myself.

Whoa, I never said otherwise. It wasn't ACCIDENTAL. Obviously!:)

But that people are going to judge them and dislike them because of that... that's a stretch I'm not willing to take.

Everyone is judged for the things they do. That's life. You know how you can avoid that? Don't do things like that.

You judged UNC with a biased opinion for a fabricated scandal but you never backed off that warped POV.

So he didnt look davis in the eye while shaking his hand. Yea dont much care no offense. Hopefully he helps us.

Judgement has to be relative. I said that basically everyone in basketball likes Nolan Smith, and he seems to be a great guy. I think that, despite your opinion on the matter, no reasonable person is changing that opinion because of a blow off of a handshake after a game.

And I really don't want to get into it with you about the whole scandal. The fact that you think it was fabricated is reason enough to avoid it.

Fabricated? 🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡

Yep. You cover up stuff and spend 20 million dollars to do it and a Duke coach didn’t shake your little hand and you are upset.
K has more class in his pinky than phony Roy and the drunk cig smoker DES.

Yep. 7 years of fabrication. 20 million dollars of fabrication. Chancellor Holt saying it was an academic and athletic scandal fabrication. 🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡💩💩💩💩

The fact that I was correct and you were wrong should have been enough to keep you quiet but it wasn’t so you can get into it or not and be wrong again. What you can’t do is question other’s judgment when yours has been biased and proven incorrect and you aren’t willing to accept your transgressions.

I’m sure some people like Nolan but plenty in the media and elsewhere lost respect for him and that possibly includes some recruits.

Oh, Cory, you beautiful, arrogant troll, you :)

You think I am wrong, so I won't give my thoughts or opinions. Instead, here... from Wikipedia:

"The University of North Carolina academic-athletic scandal involved alleged fraud and academic dishonesty committed at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC).[1] Following a lesser scandal that began in 2010 involving academic fraud and improper benefits with the university's football program, two hundred questionable classes offered by the university's African and Afro-American Studies department (commonly known as AFAM) came to light. As a result, the university was placed on probation by its accrediting agency.

An internal investigation by the university released in 2011 and another investigation commissioned by former North Carolina governor Jim Martin in 2012 found numerous academic and ethical issues with the AFAM department, including unauthorized grade changes and faculty signatures, a disproportionate number of independent study class offerings relative to other departments, and an over-representation of student-athletes enrolled in such classes. In 2014, a series of charges and counter-charges began between university officials and former learning specialist Mary Willingham, including disputes about statistics and methods of analysis by Willingham alleging that certain student-athletes were not academically qualified for college.[2] As a result of these revelations, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools placed the university on probation for one year, endangering the university's regional accreditation. Losing accreditation would have resulted in the loss of any federal funding or support.

As a result of these revelations, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools placed the university on probation for one year, endangering the university's regional accreditation. and regained full standing by June 2016. The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) then completed its own investigation in October 2017, finding no violations of its rules, largely due to the fact that the NCAA does not have oversight authority for university academic programs.[3]

The controversy sparked debate as to whether the university educated some of its student-athletes improperly and called into question the role of NCAA Division I athletics relative to the academic mission of NCAA-member colleges and universities."

Cory, you know what? Maybe you are right. Maybe this WAS totally above board. Massive state schools probably get put on probation for nothing all the time. Entire departments packed with athletes faking professor signatures and changing grades and offering paper classes... thats probably nothing. More probation? Eh, the SACC were just wrong. Investigations where the big take-away is 'Well, we don't have authority to actually DO anything about improper stuff in academic programs' are a big nothing-burger. And debates about the education of student-athletes and the role of the NCAA always pop up because of... well, nothing. And hey, the fact that the entire 2009 team majored in AFAM...? Just a coincidence. Everything was fine, no problems at UNC, and certainly none that had an impact on athletics. Man... Cory... you really showed me. Congrats. Stupid, biased, transgressing Wikipedia and news outlets and investigations.

And I haven't really seen "plenty in the media" or elsewhere who "lost respect" for Nolan, and I haven't seen any evidence of any recruits losing respect for Nolan. If you have some links that show otherwise, provide away.

Your profile sig really makes me chuckle. Full of doubts... that's you. Not sure of yourself at all.

;)

Also, you have Phil on your side so that is like an automatic forfeit.

Now THAT I can't argue with. But thankfully I've had him on ignore for years, so I don't have to read his angry ramblings :)

I'm not reading Wikipedia. I read the facts back then, told you why it wasn't an issue for athletics, explained it patiently despite all of the trolling from you clowns, put up with the nonsense, and even tolerated the complaining right after. To the winner go the spoils and the losers can shut up or face the embarrassment they deserve. Go to the well all you want but you will continue to be wrong about it and I will continue to be right about it, and I will continue to point it out every time. I told you why beforehand. I didn't wait to talk **** afterwards. I put it on the line before it went down. If I would have been wrong I would have needed to accept that. It was easy to bet on that one though because the facts were on my side.

Changes none of the FACTS. You have a habit of doing that with posters that you disagree with. Push them to the side because of made up deficiency in their posts by YOU.

All the evidence is there in black and white OJ>

Name those who lost respect for Nolan. And the media. Who really gives a shit what the media thinks of anything. They write for clicks.

You clowns are still sore what we did to your dad/coach? It'll be alright, Jon Jon is gonna be ok.

Grow up.

The media doesn’t matter now? They certainly mattered when they hoodwinked all you fools into believing the narrative about UNC a few years ago. When you dumb you can’t just dumb when you want. You Duke boys need to learn this.

Did you miss Dude's post with all the FACTS about what happened at UNC?

You AFAM U fans continue to play dumb about the athletic scandal. What does that say about you.

Just admit it and move on. Isnt that what you say we should do?

Didnt think so.

One thing I will admit. We sent your dad into retirement but before that we spoiled his party. Let me know when the NCAA changes it’s ruling.

Don’t care about the handshake or lack thereof. Just glad we have KP and now Nolan. Louisville is getting back to its roots and I back it hard. Chris Mack was a weird dude, and never could fully get on board with him. Glad that’s over.

Oh, I don't care about the handshake either, though Jay Williams didn't seem happy with his brethren. Anyway, I just like to see Duke fans have to try and justify the douchey way the people in their program act.

Jay Williams died to me the day he wore a unc jersey on GameDay. His brethren is unc.
