NBA Summer League Thread

Lot of teams dropped the ball this draft letting Cam Thomas and Jalen Johnson slip as far as they did.

A lot of teams who drafted in the teens might've really screwed up letting those two go by.

Wagner, Zaire Williams, Durante, Bouknight, Primo, Moody, Kispert, Murphym Mann, Jones. When it's all said and done I wouldn't be surprised if none of those guys are as good as Thomas or Johnson.

😂
Volume shooting in the summer league isn’t that impressive

Looking for people who can do the other things.
Those are the ones who will get playing time
Not the scoring 35. NBA teams don’t need someone to shoot the ball 20 times right now

Brooklyn added some solid depth in off season, Mills PG and James Johnson multi positions is a good all around player too. Thomas probably doesn't play a lot early in season but as injuries and random sittings of stars pile up he could get in there?

He is a role player
If he can’t be a role player they will send him somewhere else from the G League

He hit those free throws. Can make some big shots. Ultimately shoots a lot of bad shots still
Should be working on other parts of his game instead of throwing up bad shots

Jaden McDaniels at #28 last year is looking like a huge steal for the Timberwolves. One of the most versitile defenders from that draft and his offensive game is evolving nicely.

Not the Nets.
For him to play minutes for the Nets he will have to show other things
Those shots won’t be there
That's silly, look at how many shot attempts Joe Harris got for the Nets last year.

Cam Thomas can leapfrog him if he really impresses.

T-Wolves trade Jarrett Culver and Juancho Hernangomez to Memphis for Pat Beverley.

DLO
Anthony Edwards
Jaden McDaniels
Jared Vanderbilt
KAT

Beverley/Jaylen Nowell
Malik Beasley/Jaylen Nowell
Josh Okogie
Taureen Prince
Naz Reid

Best guess on the rotation as of now.

Maybe waited a year too long to trade Culver?

I think Charlotte is going to greatly regret drafting him when Jalen Johnson was picked one pick later.
If Kai Jones reaches his ceiling he could be one of the best players in this draft
Can’t say that about Johnson

Davion Mitchell is the best player right now
Cade Cunningham is the best player all around
Kai Jones could be the guy with the most upside of them all

Too much of a risk for teams because he also could stay raw like he is now

I've heard that line of thinking too many times in the past and have fallen for it as well several times.

Mo Bamba has the biggest upside in the draft...
Jaxson Hayes has the biggest upside in the draft...
Tyrus Thomas has the biggest upside in the draft...

I disagree about Johnson though. He already has top 5 talent in the draft and is an incredible athlete. If he reaches his full potential he most certainly will be one of the best players in the draft.

Garza is going to be a steal. Everyone knows about his limitations with his freakishly slow foot speed; it's somewhat offset by his ability to go all-out. His high motor will go a long ways in teammates and coaches having confidence in him. But, his offensive skillset is undeniable. Garza can do just about anything you'd want a big man to do on offense. Inside, outside, midrange. Good footwork; versatile moves. I can see him playing in the NBA for 10+ years. Offense is more of a priority in today's game anyway.

Unbelievably versatile. I think his game is better suited for the NBA. If he can be somewhat adequate from three, I wouldn't be overly surprised to see him in the All-star game in the near future.

yes, offense is a massive priority in today's game, but it comes with a caveat. Big men need to be able to defend the PnR in or else they run the risk of being complete unplayable vs certain teams and players. Look at Zubic last year for LAC. They had to bench him in the playoffs first round because Luka kept running PnR and getting him in a switch and then abusing him. Garza has the same glaring issue with his game.

Impressed he's lost some weight and has a full understanding of what he needs to do. Pretty much all big men in today's game are going to get exploited in certain match-ups, so as far as his draft position and ability to accept reserve role etc, Garza looks like a good rotation guy.

Pretty cool that the two best players in Summer League are DePaul guys. Paul Reed and Max Strus showing out the last two weeks.

I def remember reed being a stud in college. Not much help. His and strus play together?

Kings gonna go some 3 guard at people and cause some problems. I guess at least one of them gets hurt because that's how it goes, but heading into the year they got some things to like, especially at guard.

What upsets you more, Trae Young haters or Dave Leitao?
Trae Young haters.

Honestly, I gave up on DePaul long before Leitao showed up. He's just the latest in a long line a failure coaches at DePaul.

Now a much better question would be what upsets me more, Trae young haters or people who say "let's have a catch" like they do in Field of Dreams. You don't HAVE a catch. You PLAY catch you ****ing ****s! That shit has seriously bothered me for nearly 30 years.
