A lot of players are gonna foul out late second half.I hate it when games are officiated this tight. Takes the flow right out of the game.
There's going to be SOME contact, do they have to call every finger tip touch?
Exactly.A lot of players are gonna foul out late second half.
Ugh I know, which is why I’m not too excited right now. Our depth is suspect.
Izzo is the king of halftime adjustments.
If they can stay out of foul trouble and keep defending the way they are they have a great shot to win it. Obviously the problem with that is the refs are taking away any and all defensive intensity by calling a foul on anyone that breathes in the wrong direction.Ugh I know, which is why I’m not too excited right now. So true, it's mostly on bs flop calls but they need to realize basketball is a contact sport.Exactly.
Just like the UT/KU game. Williams and Dok fouled out. Big guy's are at a serious disadvantage when games are called this way.
These college refs should watch NBA games, those officials don't call touch fouls like this.
Agreed. If they can stay out of foul trouble and keep defending the way they are they have a great shot to win it. Obviously the problem with that is the refs are taking away any and all defensive intensity by calling a foul on anyone that breathes in the wrong direction.
These refs are terrible. Not even fun to watch right now
They don't call fouls period. Unless the prosecutor calls, there is no foul.LaughingThese college refs should watch NBA games, those officials don't call touch fouls like this.
http://www.collegiateofficiatingcamps.com/College officiating is garbage. But I'm sure there will a be a certain Indiana fan to rush in here and defend the guys that make damn good money on how they are doing a good job.
Good point. But, you can't deny that NBA games have great flow to them, you don't even know the officials are there. They don't call fouls period. Unless the prosecutor calls, there is no foul.Laughing
Once you get inside the 3-point line you don't have to dribble anymore either. Take 14 steps as you zig-zag to the rim, no problem. They don't call fouls period. Unless the prosecutor calls, there is no foul.Laughing
Same.Very impressed with both teams so far. Both are well coached.
Its because NBA officials are employee's, who HAVE TO follow NBA standards. HAVE to. If you don't(call the game as the NBA wants it) you are out of a job. I have said this a 100 times---That;s the biggest issue with NCAA officials; including MYSELF. There is to much room for judgement. I might let dudes play. My partner might not. In the NBA, you have cres, and they call the game how the NBA wants the game called. In the NCAA, you really don't have set crews. I might work one night with Ted and John. The next with Carl and Bo. The next with Bo and Ted. So on and so on.Good point. But, you can't deny that NBA games have great flow to them, you don't even know the officials are there.
In college, the officials are too much of a factor. There's no consistency from one game to the next.
I get it, it's hard, I probably couldn't do the job without extensive training. But it looks like there are many out there that are calling games without proper training or common sense.
Rock I called this(UL being better than what folks would think). Mack can coach. UL had some good pieces coming back; and in. UL's gonna be a handful. That is why I'm happy we play you guys in Bloomington.I do too.
Or not...Izzo is great at halftime. Look for MSU to make an early push.

Common sense---I agree 100%. Proper training, though? No. You have to attend camps, clinics, etc, etc...Pass an exam. The training is there. One of the issues with training is, those who have done it for 10 ,15 or 20 years. Aside from the mandatory clinincs, they seldom go. Get complacent.I get it, it's hard, I probably couldn't do the job without extensive training. TV Valentine sucks, can we at least admit that?Common sense---I agree 100%. Proper training, though? No. You have to attend camps, clinics, etc, etc...Pass an exam. The training is there. Until the NCAA hires officials, trats them as employee's, you'll continue to see some of the inconsistency. BUT....to be fair, its not as inconsistent as some think. But it does have its moments.
And yes---it is hard. I doubt many on here could do it.
These refs are terrible. Not even fun to watch right now
I don't like him. But, the dude has worked 4 National title games, and 10 FF's. I mean, I get it. But I wouldn't say he sucks.TV Valentine sucks, can we at least admit that?
Glad we got UL in Bloomington....Mack's a hell of a coach, man.
I agree with everything except the last paragraph. I don't see how you can deny that officials are a huge factor in how games are played and managed. Its because NBA officials are employee's, who HAVE TO follow NBA standards. HAVE to. If you don't(call the game as the NBA wants it) you are out of a job. I have said this a 100 times---That;s the biggest issue with NCAA officials; including MYSELF. That is the biggest issue.
Edit: I don't think officials in CBB are any more of a factor than officials in the NBA. The rules are different. Give NBA officials, NCAA rules, and lets see how that works out. Same for NCAA guys.
Coaches wanted "freedom of movement". The begged for it. Its all I heard in meetings. Every summer.I agree with everything except the last paragraph. I don't see how you can deny that officials are a huge factor in how games are played and managed.
The score in this game would be totally different if the refs were letting them play. These guys have to think too much about not making contact instead of just playing. This happens too often in college.
I see why the NBA controls their officials. It's the best thing for the game.
